What backlash? The microtransactions are cosmetic only just like Overwatch, the player avatars are all customizable, so you only encounter black female Nazis if someone wanted to play as one.

The big question I'm asking if this game has anything going for it other than the novelty of resurrecting the WWII FPS in 2017. For me, I think the big problem is that video games mined WW2 so thoroughly in the 2000s that you have to make a real effort to find something that hasn't been done dozens of times. The most recent WWII shooter I played was this Polish game called "Enemy Front," and the only part of that which really stood out for me were the sections set in bombed-out Warsaw. With everything else, I kept thinking "oh, I saw this in CoD/MoH/RtCW." At this point, you can't just copy "Saving Private Ryan," "Band of Brothers," and "Enemy at the Gates" and call it a day. We've seen all that before.

Truth be told, I was kinda hoping CoD would either ride Battlefield's coat tails and do a WWI game with a better single-player component, or take a risk on a Korean War setting. That last one would be controversial, sure, but it'd be a nice mix of the familiar (arsenal/vehicles between WWII and Vietnam-era) and the unique, with a setting most people aren't that familiar with.

It would be too hard to bring back the good old WW2 games. They would have to be completely new, like RTS games with groundbreaking new mechanics, or FPS games that offered a way more realistic and detailed view on the war.

Sadly nowadays devs are more concerned about bringing demisexual otherkin in their games than actually bringing quality content.

They said the same thing about MWR and then added guns. Granted most of the new guns were given drawbacks to balance them unlike in BO3 and IW.

Best case scenario is that the supply drops don't necessitate spending money and weapons can be earned through salvage rather than only in crates.
