Yeah, I always really enjoy his films. He seems to have a genuine, passionate interest in history, and he really goes all-out with the details of his period settings

I'd recommend checking out THR's Director's Roundtable talk on YouTube, he talks about Hacksaw Ridge and a couple projects he wants to make in the future, and he seems like a big excitable kid when he's talking about his work

I always thought his whole "scandal" was blown way out of proportion. He was piss-drunk and angry when he said those things, his wife kinda set him up and egged him on so she could catch him talking crazy on tape, and he didn't actually hurt anyone he just expressed some unsavory opinions. If that shit's unforgivable, we're all unforgivable

Hacksaw was a major disappointment but other than that I think he's one of the few genuine auteurs in Hollywood.

And yeah, his personal crimes are not something on the level of say Bertolucci and Brando plotting to rape Scheider on camera, or any number of artists with (far more) well documented histories of spousal abuse.
