Its kino
Good:
>characters were nicely fleshed out to the point where everyone had a clear personality, even if I personally didn't like all of them
>action scenes were well choreographed and well-lit which is an increasing rarity in today's Hollywood
>a few lines like "make my monster grow!" were nice winks to the original audience
>the fight scenes that existed were well done, feeling fast and fluent as the rangers, and slower but heavier as the Megazord
>a lot more individual zord-combat than I'd expected, which was really fun
>Rita was a lot cooler than I thought she'd be and I really liked her
>the last scene where they re-enacted an iconic end-of-episode-classroom-scene was a nice touch
Bad:
>soundtrack was abysmal, with mostly gangsta-rap and a little dubstep (of all things) and only a very VERY brief "Go Go Power Rangers" nod which was easily one of the most iconic things about the original series
>for fucks sake when you have stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3NKIWgaTLQ in your arsenal, you don't not use it
>Billy was KANGZ-bait, to the point where he got way more attention and screen-time than the other non-red rangers
>there were ample action scenes, but very few FIGHT scenes, and though I didn't like it I can kinda' see how it had to be that way with how the movie was paced
>suits still don't look amazingly good, too much black and gray with too little focus on the color in their armor (this is true for the zords too)
>Megazord looked retarded as all hell, though I didn't mind the look of the individual zords
>"Come at me bro!"
Verdict:
>pretty solid movie, and now that they have a good chunk of the establishing teen-drama out of the way a sequel could focus more on cool fights
7/10
Opinions?
Ehr thought it was alright. Above the usual capeshit IMO but that might be more nostalgia for the show than tallent from the director.
>>84059957
I felt it was above too, but like you said that could just be a nostalgic bias.
I think the biggest problem it had though was that it felt very much like it pandered to the millennial audience.
>"muh dad doesn't understand me!"-protagonist
>it's okay to leak nudes, ruining someone's life doesn't make you a bad person
>"I identify as a nuclear launch facility and my parents want me to be conservative like them!"
>autism is an entertaining and lovable character trait that will surely be embraced by all the jocks in your local high school
>"it's okay if I ruin my chance at a pro football career because I'm a misunderstood teen, and my parents should only slightly scorn me for throwing away everything I had going for me"
It all has this really clear degeneracy vibe, which is strange because the original Power Rangers were all ultra-normies.
>>84059710
You forgot the awful run-of-the-mill-enemies. Putties looked stolen from Suicide Squad and Goldar was simply a giant chunky golden golem with zero personality.
Half the appeal of the original rangers were the monsters, be it the turtle with traffic lights or the giant guns monster or pig in a centurion helmet. Rita alone would have to be atleast twice or thrice as hammy to carry that movie. But I guess they were going for the Marvel vibe.

>The in-development project, which is tentatively entitled Speedy, will be produced by Dylan Sellers via Rivers Edge Films and Derbez and Ben Odell via their 3pas Studios. Hank Nelken (Are We Done Yet?, Saving Silverman) has been hired to script the story, which is described as a heist caper. The project (which apparently was spilled by the Tracking Board) will likely be cut into both English- and Spanish-speaking versions.
“We see this as an origin story of the great master, like a Robin Hood character, who ultimately ends up taking from the rich and giving to the poor,” said Sellers. “In a time when Donald Trump is gaining momentum, the world needs Speedy more than ever.”

How do you sit at the movie theater?
All the things I could have done with my life.
All the people I could have been.
And here I am, looking at your shitpost OP.
How did we end up here together, you and I?
Were we always destined to be here? Is this fate?
This can't be where you wanted to end up either, OP.

Nah, nobody gives a shit about you. If it were about you, I would be bored to suicide by now.
Just watched this..holly shit - i literally can't think of a better female villain in all of cinema. She's at the top of all villains in general - absolutely amazing writing and performance.
>>84047842
What do you mean, "villain?"
>you will never have a woman so dedicated to you improving yourself she fakes her own death to literally force you to become a better man
>>84047842
She's not the villain, they're both villains, stop thinking the movies as a necessary fight between so called good guys and bad guys, there's no fincher where the protagonist is a really good guy (except Panic Room and Alien 3)
Now that the dust has settled, what did you think of this film? *manchildren need not apply*

I think this is a good bait thread. You should easily be able to accomplish your goal of arguing with strangers on the internet. That's a very good use of your time and it shows you're life is full of value.

Man, the Assembly Cut is an absolutely disgusting and horrific film, in a good way. The Christian themes are surprisingly perfect, Fiorina 161 is literally a fallen world, with all the fire, furnaces and sinners it's basically Hell. 161 being a reference to 616, a variant of the number of the Beast. The alien becomes satanic as depicted in Revelation, it's even called the Dragon and the Beast and is trapped in the Pit before being released and bringing about the end times. Ripley is basically carrying an antichrist, the ultimate culmination of the series' theme of perverted motherhood, she hates her baby and would literally rather die than give birth. The company scientists are depicted as angels, with flowing white robes coming down from "heaven". Except they're the bad guys and the people in Hell (Fiorina) are the good guys. The black dude gives a speech about rebirth while the Alien is born from the dead ox, a combination of christ-like imagery and Old Testament animal sacrifice, but perverted into an evil version of those two.
The whole film is so disconcerting because it's a reversal of everything you want to see. Hicks and Newt, Ripley's wholesome surrogate family, are killed, sliced open in autopsy, and fucking cremated as the film's opening. Then everyone who seems good dies horrifically throughout the rest of the film and Ripley just commits suicide. It's very conclusive but the total opposite of a happy ending. You're actually glad when it's over, which makes it work perfectly as the end of a series, it's final and you don't want to see any more. The centrepieces of tje series (Ripley and the Alien) are killed, and the series dies with them, a grear ending. Then Resurrection, AVP, and the prequels continually fucked up that closure
I saw this at the cinema in '93 and was blown away by how unflinchingly downbeat it is for a commercial summer movie. It looks amazing and is always fun to watch, but I prefer the theatrical cut better.
I know Finch did his best, but I wasn't too impressed with Alien 3. It has its strengths like the ones you mentioned, but frankly, I would've preferred if the franchise ended with Aliens. I treat Alien and Aliens as 2 halves of 1 whole story. It's better for Ripley to get a hopeful ending with Newt than what we saw in Alien 3 or Resurrection.
Why is the alien cubed?
How is this a classic?
Swedish women are so fucking hot.
>>84047445
Because it's a great film, Bergman's best depending on how you value his work. Pic related, really great stuff.
>>84047445DUDE THEY'RE ACTUALLY THE SAME PERSON
Besides this, I don't think I really understood what the movie was trying to say.
