What a great performance by Ben Foster. How did he not get nominated for this movie?

Because it wasn't a good performance. He does that same semi-drunk/unhinged swagger in everything.

How bad is this going to age?
The CGI is already aging like milk

In 10 years when the CGI is worse than video games, will it be remembered as shit or as a pulp sci-fi classic?

The romance ruins it in all honesty. TPM and ROTS will be fondly remembered after reddit realizes the sequel trilogy are glib facsimiles, but AOTC's only redeeming parts are Obi-Wans quasi neo-noir dectective work.
>>
>>84987468
pleabs and red letter fags will say this. Patrians will see it as a hallmark for how movies would be made. Almost every CG-I hevey live action film is done by IBM, the same people who did the Star Wars computer effects.

Just saw this last night after seeing Spider Man last week and I realized something: how VASTLY better the acting was in Planet of the Apes. Why? Because the dialogue was kept simple. Here me out:

Notice how in not only Spiderman Homecoming, but in pretty much EVERY Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has to have a script where all the characters speak an endless stream of quippy dialog?

Ever since Robert Downey Jr.'s performance in the first Iron Man where he ad-libbed a ton of witty remarks, EVERY fucking character now has to make a witty remark every fucking second.

By writing the script so that literally every fucking character is a goddamn quip factory, it heavily hinders the performance of the actors since they're too focused on memorizing all those lines of quippy dialog rather than their actual performance and the emotions they convey.

Meanwhile, pretty much all the dialogue in Planet of the Apes is kept simple, allowing the actors to simply focus on delivery, resulting in much more powerful acting performances.

Watching these movies back to back is proof that quippy dialog is the cancer that is killing movies and resulting in shitty half-assed acting. Oversaturation of quips in a script is all nothing but a pointless dick-waving contest among screenplay writers and results in shittier acting.

tl;dr: Keep the script simple and allow the actors to focus on delivery. Take your witty banter and shove it up your ass.

>tfw just finishes watching this movie for the second time
These movies are going to be seen as a great modern reboot of an old franchise. I absolutely loved the music they used in War since it sounded so similar to the original.

Just watched this and while I enjoyed it my Patrician mind couldn't make any sense of it, am I supposed to understand it?

Did they ever have an affair? Was the repitition supposed to be a cyclical thing? It seemed like it was jumping between timelines a lot.

Also, any films in the same vein that I should check out?

Sure thing, kid. Whatever makes you sleep at night.
>>
>>84987028

Trying to make "perfect sense" of any Resnais film is sort of pointless. One of his major themes was memory and how it malleable it can be. Last Year at Marienbad is one of his masterpieces. See Providence and Hiroshima Mon Amour for more of the same

It's all about how things can change. That's really the essence of life. When you get older, clarity increases. This type of film needs accrued wisdom to understand. A young person can never understand it.

>"Meg looked up at her mother, half in loving admiration, half in sullen resentment. It was not an advantage to have a mother who was a scientist and a beauty as well. Mrs. Murry's flaming red hair, creamy skin, and violet eyes with long dark lashes, seemed even more spectacular in comparison with Meg's outrageous plainness."

Perfect casting! Gugu Mbatha-Raw (pic related) is exactly what I always pictured when reading this! So excited! Yassssss!

Anybody feel like talking about the biblical references in War? I wasn't expecting it at all and some of it (Woody Harrison's expository dump) was way more on the nose than other parts but I thought that turning Caesar into Moses was a great end to his character. I plan on seeing the movie a second time less for the effects and more so I can analyze it for references like that. I'm not sure Matt Reeves got into the amount of detail that Zack Snyder did for BvS but I saw enough last night to convince me that there might be some more gems hidden under this movie's surface
