This is truly one of the strangest moments in WW2 imo.

From the accounts I have read, his plan was to force Britain into a demoralizing and embarrassing treaty agreement as sort of a payback/revenge for the diplomatic bullshit Germany had to deal with following WW1.
Then somewhere down the line the allies started bombing German cities filled with civilians... and so on. I just find it strange that they actually tried to show humility so early on in the war rather than actually ending it all ASAP.
America would never have entered the war. Shit would have been a wrap. Third Reich and all that. Very, very strange decision (compared to how the rest of the war panned out).
