Two questions of a similar theme:

1. What if we are getting the wrong end of the stick with intelligence, and our own species intelligence is a faux intelligence, and real intelligence is something different?

2. What if our intelligence is a limited pathway, and we will never be able to advance beyond a certain point, while intelligent extra-terrestrials have a completely different form of comprehension and will be able to move on without us?

Obviously, I'm making the assumption that you accept alien life can exist.

My own concept of intelligence has changed over time. When I was a kid I used to believe that people who had good grades were intelligente, then when I became a good student on my own I noticed it doesn't has much to do with having the ability to understand things easily, if we are talking about the general human population, but with habits of study and environment.

Nowadays I believe that people who are truly intelligent must be also effective, that is, they have success in whatever they do, but even then there's a lot of factors other than sheer merit.
>>
intelligence should be described as some measurement of the amount of information an organism is able to intake from the universe.
>>
>>8738624

I think you misunderstood the questions. They're not about smart people or stupid people, they're about the actual ability for an organism to comprehend abstract concepts. Do you think that as a species we could be limited in this aspect forever, simply because of how our brains developed, or could what we perceive as intelligence actually be something entirely different to a true intelligence?

>>8738686

Intelligence is comprehension more than knowledge, memory, or perception. Though, I will grant that perception must play a part in intelligence. As humans, we are limited to a very small spectrum of the overall amount of energy in the universe, which means we struggle to comprehend vast scales of both time and space, and are the result of evolution at a specific scale. Even if we create machines to overcome our flawed senses, we still may not have the right cognitive faculties to advance beyond a certain point. Like taking two different paths, and one leads to a dead end, while the other continues on indefinitely, we may have taken the dead end with our own intellectual evolution.

I do eight hours a day, seven days a week. Each day also comes with two hours free time at the end of the day I normally use for extra study.

So:

Get on my level.

>Chronological observation of testosterone fluctuations in relation to a change in evolutionary pressures

Has there ever been such a study conducted, either contemporarily or historically?

The thought arose when contemplating the decrease worldwide of testosterone and whether it was biochemical in nature (arising from an increase in environmental xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens), or whether it was some other factor, environmental or otherwise.

Sadly, I'm not a biochemist.

Why can't some integrals be expressed with elementary equations? For example, why can't the integral of sin(x^2) be equal to some equation rather than a taylor series? Is it because we haven't found a way to integrate it, or do we actually know there isn't a way to solve it using elementary algebra?

a taylor series is an equation you NOOB
>>
>>8738266
The bessel function used to only be able to be expressed in terms of a taylor series until we gave it a name. Thus one just has to wait for the solution to beconr important enough to define a new closed form solution.

What the fuck is going on? Literally, on the first page alone there are 8 threads which are either shitty bait, memes or /adv/ tier inquiry (mostly to do with education or employment).

And the remaining 6 aren't of outstanding quality either.

Did all of the brainpower drain into Stack Exchange?

How do I know if I'm intelligent enough to go into some of the stem fields like mathematics, physics or engineering. And please don't say IQ tests because i really doubt they'll tell you your real intelligence and they're really fucking expensive. I'm asking this because i want to learn something math-related but i don't want to just waste my time and realize it wasn't cut out for me and i'm not smart enough to specialize in that field and that im just throwing my money away.

Most guys go into engineering because they liked taking stuff apart and figuring out the HOW. (figuring out how something works, designing something)

Most guys go into physics/chemistry because they liked figuring out the WHY. (asking questions, creating hypotheses, doing academic research)

Most guys go into math because they liked the rigor of solving and proving math stuff. (proving something logically)

Don't do it man I did it and it's awful.

It makes you a special kind of dead-inside person surrounded by the sick and deranged for which there is no cure and also patients that are pretty fucked.
