i REALLY want this to NOT be vaporware because it seems like a goldmine for mods, some good rubber and stiff springs and a hyabusa swap would do wonders because the chassis weighs basically nothing, it'd be tossable and quick as fuck. Optional factory manual too.

The Lexus IS350 F-Sport is a good one because it's not as popular as 335i, but it handles very well, is nicer inside than the 3 series, and I think it looks better. I'd also consider the new C450 if you're looking for a comfier ride. I haven't driven the TT so I can't comment on that.

I actually own a 2015 IS350 F-Sport and got it because compared to the 335i and S4, it was better priced than a similar 335i/S4 ($13k cheaper before taxes in Canada), more reliable, fairly quick, better steering/handling, and much better interior. So far I have no complaints about the car and I highly recommend it if you're looking at an entry-level sports luxury car. The only downside that it has is that the engine is old so it's not as quick in a straight line as the 335i or S4. Other than that, it's a great car.

Same presumably applies to the C/E-Class? Aside from that, ATS/used CTS and whatever Infiniti calls their coupes nowadays both might be worth a look.

I don't know too much about the RC, but I do know that the new TTs are very easy to live with if you don't need much space (which, being a student, you probably don't), and while still not exactly Porsche Caymans, they're not half bad driver's cars nowadays when you fancy pushing them on a bit.
