Was she riding something serious? Or just a Walmart bike?

You probably came off like an ass telling her all the shit that's wrong with her bike.

I ride with dudes who ride fucked up bikes and I don't say shit.

One dude bought a giant prebuilt with the tiagra Shimano mix awhile back. And this dude needs new cables, housing, pads. And to replace the rusted chain

But I don't say shit. Some other dude rides a trek and he sounds like he's cross chaining 24/7 because his shit hasn't been indexed properly and just ignore it.

>Was she riding something serious? Or just a Walmart bike?
A fairly good road bike. Not a high end bike, but not a BSO by any means.
>You probably came off like an ass telling her all the shit that's wrong with her bike.
No I said it nicely and fixed her brake.
>I ride with dudes who ride fucked up bikes and I don't say shit.
Okay. Then they'll probably crash and die. I don't care.
>One dude bought a giant prebuilt with the tiagra Shimano mix awhile back. And this dude needs new cables, housing, pads. And to replace the rusted chain
What he really needs is to upgrade from Shimano to SRAM.
>But I don't say shit. Some other dude rides a trek and he sounds like he's cross chaining 24/7 because his shit hasn't been indexed properly and just ignore it.
There's nothing wrong with giving helpful advice to another cyclist.

What does /n/ think about the United 3411 incident?

I think there will be a push for more passenger rights legislation. Prohibiting airlines from overbooking flights. Perhaps even restricting booking to less than 100% of available seats, the remainder being held for contingencies or standby customers.

And once more regulations are put in place, every airline that does not abuse its passengers will turn to United and say, "Thanks a lot, asshole."
>>
It caused me to compare business classes between airlines
I just want to know which airline will be most pleasant overall and least full of assholes.
>>
>>1063090
Doubtful. At most they will make it so if passengers are already on the plane they can't be removed. If the operator needs to shuttle crew around and they don't reserve the seats before all the passengers clear the gate, too bad.

Railroads for whom a significant portion of their traffic involved hauling farm/grange produce (especially grain/wheat) across the Great Plains & Midwestern U.S. While there's no conclusive definition of the term, it's generally considered to include well-known railroads such as the...

>Chicago, Burlington & Quincy
>Chicago & Northwestern
>Illinois Central
>Milwaukee Road
>Rock Island

...as well as a bunch of smaller, lesser-known & long gone railroads. There are some pretty good railroads here that often get overlooked, so I figured we could have a thread to dump pictures & discuss them.

Let's keep the focus primarily centered on the Midwestern operations of these railroads.

A guy I worked with at a bike shop told me that in some situations, titanium is not as durable as it's made out to be. And that in a full suspension enduro or downhill bike, a titanium frame would break. Is that true?
I don't remember the details, but something along the lines of, if a titanium frame gets a dent, then the frame will be prone to failure at the damaged spot, unlike steel and aluminum. True?
23 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1063407
If a metal tube made out of any material gets a dent in it it's done. It doesn't matter if your frame is made out of steel, aluminium, titanium, carbon, or fucking bamboo if it gets dented then the frame isn't worth shit. You can still ride most of the slightly dented frames around town just fine but doing anything more demanding on one is asking for trouble.
>>
>>1063415
If a steel frame has a small dent it doesn't affect it much. Is it true that a small dent in a titanium frame is substantially more problematic than a small dent in an aluminum or steel frame?
>>
>>1063407
You need an other set of methods to properly weld titanium, that's why almost nobody use it and when they do it's not wort a penny. Except a few frames. It's not the material fault, this time, as Titanium is almost the ultimate metal used to make frames.

>>1063417
Depending on the alloy. Stiffer alloy will break easily after being dented. Alloy tend to break at some junctions, like where the screw of the water bottle holder is.

What's the fastest you've ever gone on the flats on a bike? I never seem to be able to break 30 km/h
134 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>1051702
Maybe a little over 30mph (48km/h), I haven't tried a flat ground speed since getting my speedo (I've hit 36mph downhill, with a longer hill I could probably get to 40mph with my gearing).

30km/h (18.6mph) is pretty slow if that's your flat out sprint speed, that's a typical cruising speed for me and I'd imagine most riders on here. What is it that you think is limiting you, your strength, gearing, or your bike?

How do you repair/replace bike tires/tubes?

Recently I was riding my bike back home from the gym and something felt odd in the back tire. I ignored it, but then I knew for certain something was off so I checked it and I had a flat. I don't know how it happened, but it did. But because I rode on it, the tire and tube are no longer aligned properly on the rim.

I've never attempted to fix a tire before, and I'm unsure how I would go about it. If it's really fucked, I suppose I could buy another one, but I really like the feel of this one. I've had I for a while and I really like it. I can post pictures if necessary.

Anyone shave legs for cycling reasons?
Why or why not?
23 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1065459
No, I won't shave for muh aero gain and I won't shave because I'm not someone who corners at 25mph and I won't injure myself.
>>
I don't because my hair hides all the scars that I got from various pedal strikes and whatnot.

Well having shaved legs would've been easy to treat the wounds...
>>
If I shaved my legs I feel like I would have to shave EVERYTHING or it would be weird. I don't have that kind of time and most wax places aren't too into giving men a total body waxing.

I'm a really infrequent biker right now (just several times a year, maybe), but I'm moving to a new apartment that's 2 miles from my office via a bike path so I want to start riding there every day. I have an old Schwinn MP21 that I'd like to put slicks on to make this more feasible, but I don't want to spend any more money on them than I need to given how casual I am.

I know Schwalbe and Kenda have a good reputation, but their tires tend to start around $35. I'll gladly pay that if you guys think it's pretty crucial, but if not would I be ok going with a cheaper tire? Or would that really be fucking myself over?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Having good tires and brakes is important for safety reasons, so cheaping out isn't a good idea. Schwalbe and Kenda are both fine.
>>
>>1066746
You are going to want fenders of some kind to keep from getting your clothes dirty when the surface is wet.

I recommend just buying something new if you really intend to bike every single day.

Check out the Momentum brand by Giant.

$400 for a bike with a ton of extras on it and decent quality perfect for a work commute.
>>
Honestly as long as you keep them properly inflated and don't ride right over road debris, any tire will serve you fine. I've been commuting on a pair of 700x32 Kenda wire bead tires I found next to a trashcan and I've had one or two punctures at most, both due to shit that would go through any tire. Plus it's 2 miles, come on.
That being said, a nice tire will give you a nicer ride and make your ride more enjoyable, so it's a good part to put some money on.

>Electric cars are gonna replace gasoline ran cars!
Reality check: the oil price is quite low and the price is inflated to hell by politicans. In the insane Sweden 66% of gas price is just tax.

Electic cars that are popular like Tesla S class are luxury priced, the cheapest decent electric cars you can get is what? a VW Golf E for 35,500$, about 1/3rd of a Tesla's price and significantly more than a petrol/diesel.

Yeah the tax is lower and running costs are lower but really because of the tax of fossil cars in general + the 2/3 added to fuel.

Without all this state interferance electic cars would really not stand a chance against 50$/barrel.

>>
>>1066343
You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Being the dumbass nigger you are, you just assume that electric cars will never get cheaper despite the fact that battery prices keep dropping and that electric cars are much, much cheaper to "fuel" and maintain.
