Anybody with mental illness here? How does it affect your relationship with music?
I don't really know what I have. When I was a kid I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS and ADHD. Back then PDD-NOS basically just meant they couldn't diagnose me as Asperger's because I didn't qualify, but I showed some of the symptoms.
Nowadays I'm super fucking ADHD. I don't think of myself as autistic, but the fact is I have weird social difficulties that I've worked hard to get past, but am still not past. I'm good with one on one communication, but in groups sometimes I'm painfully awkward. Sometimes I don't know when to shut up because I just won't pick up on the fact that people aren't interested.
I really have made the effort to learn to be socially graceful, and part of this was forcing myself to go to every single party I had the opportunity to attend in college, when I was in the Peace Corps, and when I was working. This has left me in a strange place, because sometimes how I function really well in those situations and become really popular and well liked, and other times I think I just come off as strange. The consequence is, people's reactions tend to be really polarized in those situations - a bunch of people will invite me to parties and think I'm "chill", but then one, or occasionally a few people will have super negative reactions. Those people tend to lighten up and be cool if I have enough people who like me, but if there aren't enough, those people can make me super withdrawn and down... as a consequence, I often feel like I'm campaigning to win over enough people, and that can be tiring.
As for my relationship with music, I'm obsessive. More recently, though, I think it affects what kinds of music I listen to. Lately all I want to listen to is really emotive jazz, punk, and singer/songwriter stuff. I can't even stand listening to pop, gangsta rap, overly theatrical metal, or really anything that feels less than completely genuine.

I would think it would cause people to enjoy music less. Music is best when you are in a good mood imo.

This, just when I thought I fancied her. I see this photo. It's grimes by the way.

It's intentional. Those are older photos.
>If you’re performing, the way you dress, even if it’s just a shirt and pants, is a statement in itself whether you like it or not. I see fashion as a positive thing. I see it as a way to enhance the project, or as a whole other aspect that I can play with and use to my advantage. Though I make sure that I look like trash about 20% of the time so no one’s ever saying, “That’s what she looks like without makeup.” It’s like, “Everyone knows.”
But since around 2013-2014 she reduced these "stunts" dramatically and she looks mostly exquisite.
