These sameface designs creep me the fuck out.
One of the best parts of Build Fighters was seeing the neat little modifications builders made to their machines, what kind of mods would you add to your gunpla?
>Chest fires a beam
>Those things on the forearms are also guns
>Wings either deploy those feathered bits as fennels, or can be wielded as giant beam sabers.
>Small missile pods on shoulders
>short heat sword stored vertically beside the regular sword (think wakizashi to a katana)
>2 zaku bazookas along with the giant bazooka
>make beam scatter gun actually effective
Switch the purple with dark blue and the black with off white and we're good.
>>14474761
>color blue
>give it an sd gundam head
>replace sub arms with cannons
>GN buster sword doubles as a beam sniper raifu
>beam saber charge racks moved to forearm mounts
>sub-arms in oversized legs that wield beam sabers/beam cannons (they look like they just stick out of the knees usually, like the Ex-S)
>Muv-Luv Style assault rifle/grenade launcher combi-weapon on the inside of the GN Fang Skirts
>fingertip birdlime/net/dummy balloon launchers

We all knew you were a faggot.
3 years on, does /m/ like Space Battleship Yamato 2199?
>>14465492
Yes. Yes I do. Need to get around to watching the movie.
>>14465492
It is one of only a handful anime that I consider to be an actual 10/10.
>>14465495
Why does this piss me off so much?
Where do I start with Macross /m/? Do I watch the TV series or Do You Remember Love? Also should I even bother watching 7 at all?
>>14453882
Macross isn't as sprawling a franchise as Gundam and doesn't have as many entries or different takes to wonder about. Just go in production order and try everything. If something isn't taking your fancy after a few episodes, move on. Each show builds on the previous one in a small way to make a future history, but each show assumes no familiarity with previous ones and so explains everything that's happening like to a newcomer so you're not really going to miss anything essential by skipping an entry.
>>14453882
Start with the original series. Then watch Do You Remember Love?
Start with the TV series, SDF contains a lot more than DYRL. Keep in mind that DYRL is also worth watching as it makes significant changes to the plot and is all new animation.
Like what others have said, follow production for Macross, and feel free to skip a series if you can't get into it.
I liked 7 myself, but I can't really justify recommending it to others. I find that the much nicer later parts never really manage to compensate for the very rough start.
In the following posts I'll be posting the interview included in the second English DVD of The Wings of Rean. I don't have part 1 but I do have part 3 which will come some time later (maybe)
In this interview Tomino talks about naming his characters, Dunbine, Ideon, Gundam, and many other interesting things.

On Staring the Planning
-- I'd like to ask a pretty basic question. Although the content differs from the novel version*(1), why did you decide to produce The Wings of Rean now?
Tomino: Since the decesion was made by staff members who are one or two decades younger than myself, please ask them. I believe it happened something like this: there's a plan for internet distrubution; why don't we have Tomino do it; and it would probably be better if the material was something familiar. I've prided myself on making my living creating original material, so I don't find any joy in being asked to take something from the past and "do it again. If I had been fifteen years younger, I probably would have had a major confrontation with whoever brought the idea up with me. But the reason I won't do that now is because after I cleared sixty, I came to thank I should be guided by the opinions of the younger generation.
>>14446421
-- Buut that said, the Byston Well universe deeply reflects your ideals. Revisiting that once more could be seen as something positive, couldn't it?
Tomino: There is that. It's a universe I created myself. Plus, because it's a world I remember as not being fully brought to fruiton, that's something I can revisit. I was able to think in that matter after making the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Movie version*(2), where I learned from experience that even if that content is already fixed, by chagining the presentation, you can change the essense. I came to understand that, out of the framework of the old project, a new version could be created. That's why when younger people brought the material to me saying, "we want you to do this," and it happened to be a universe that I created, as well as something I felt might be worth expressing, I was if anything appreciative and thought I might be forgiven if I was a little vain about it.
-- What was it like creating the story?
Tomino: It was a big deal for me when the younger producers told me, "it's okay to use the Sakomizu character."
>>14446421
>If I had been fifteen years younger, I probably would have had a major confrontation with whoever brought the idea up with me. But the reason I won't do that now is because after I cleared sixty, I came to thank I should be guided by the opinions of the younger generation.
I love this line. It's pretty much the core essence of Tomino's philosophy and key to understanding any of his works.
mods are dead

It's actually a legitimately good series from the first six eps I've seen
>>14497359
All I know about the show is the terrible combination scene and animation in general. But I know shit about the plot and characters. Are people calling it the worst based on that alone or did they watch it?

WE CAN REBUILD THEM!
We have the technology.
It's been sometime since I last watched a good old /m/ show, craving for something really 80s right now and there's these two guys sitting in my backlog for quite a while.
Orguss or Mospeada, /m/?Yeah, I know that's Orguss 2 in the pic, closest Google got me.

>The White Base, the mothership of the protagonist crew members, is designed with a 3 plane view method by Kunio Okawara, however, it is not specially designed for the anime series Gundam, it was actually a salvaged design from the anime Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3. The idea of having a space carrier from Tomino is partly inspired by the earlier science fiction anime Space Battleship Yamato, in which he claimed to be a fan of. It was intended to be in a more realistic black colour, but was changed to white by the order of Sunrise, similar to the colour change of the main mecha Gundam was changed from a grayish white to white, red, blue and yellow. Director Tomino showed great disgust in the colour change, also noticing the unrealistic non-aerodynamic design of it after the show was on air, said in an interview that such design would never appear in the real world, since it would be a sitting duck from fighter aircraft. Tomino still held a grudge 10 years after the show aired and stated in an interview in Newtype 1989 April issue that the imaginary enemies of Gundam are Sunrise, sponsors and television stations.
Was Tomino right, /m/?
>>14494598
Tomino doesn't get to talk about shit like proper air combat tactics or the plausible validity of a certain shape of spacecraft that can also operate in atmosphere.
The White Base is more like a 'UFO' than anything, it doesn't fly it floats using technology we do not have even in the present day
Other than the stupid fucking surfboard, I think the white base's design is the thing I dislike the most about the original gundam, it's like a sphinx.
