I'm a little late to the game on this. Is this one of the cases where there is an advantage to watching the movie or the ONA, or does it not matter?
Thanks!
>>14630610
The Movie adds some scenes and is of higher visual quality due to being ripped from Blu-Rays. Nothing is cut out
ONA has better audio editing when it comes to music though. I don't know why they changed it in certain scenes that cover episode 2
>>14630698
I've heard two stories and both are equally plausible
The copyright holder for the song used in episode 2 hit Bandai with a C&D cause they didn't get his permission to use the song.
The sound director removed the song as it detracted from the atmosphere of the scene.
>>14630746
I don't think it's the first one because the song is on the official OST and was probably composed for Thunderbolt.
Probably the second because while the song is fast paced, the sax blaring sounds kinda dirty and shitty. It still weird that they just left the scene without any music since Io is supposed to be blasting jazz whenever he gets in their area to announce that he's coming for them

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as a Mech, is in fact, メカニカル, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Mecha. Mecha is not a genre unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning concept made manifest by the existence of vehicles, military equipment and of course, robots, comprising a full concept as defined by MAHQ.
Many posters use a modified definition of the メカニカル term every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of メカニカル which is widely used today is often called Mech, and many of its posters are not aware that it is basically the Robotech term, developed by Harmony Gold.
So unless discussing Robotech or Battletech please refer to giant robots as "Mecha" and always remember to lurk before posting

Somebody get this hothead outta here
How to kill Israfel with simultaneous attacks through their AT fields, the smart way:
1. Equip two or more Evas with sticky bombs. You have six days to prepare and anime super-science, it's not that difficult.
2. The Evas PLACE, not throw, PLACE their sticky bombs on the angels' backs, preferably multiple times to be sure. The bombs remain in contact with the Evas' hands until after they are firmly attached.
3. Because AT fields are projected several feet away from the body, the bombs are inside the Evas' AT fields at the moment they are placed, cancelling out the angels' AT fields, and remain inside the angels' AT fields afterward.
4. A radio signal triggers all bombs on the angels to detonate simultaneously. Remember, these bombs are inside the angels' AT fields. An explosion from inside would deal full damage.
5. If you're going to reply "but AT fields!", read this post again.
>>14630223
But then you wouldn't have the only cool evangelion episode.

AT Fields.
Nice try Mr Nameless Faceless UN Army General but only an Eva can defeat an Angel.

Nah. I don't think anyone gives a shit about shooting zombies anymore except COD players. Even crystalline, alternate dimension zombies.
So after the curshing disappointment that IBO turned out to be, I decided to watch SEED to see if it's as bad as it was made out to be.
It was certainly not the best, but it was actually quite enjoyable at times. I'd rank it somewhere around the same as 00 S2.
I'll start with the bad things I thought about the show:
Plotholes every-fucking-where.Strike exploding and Kira ending up not only alive, but brought to the fucking PLANT made me scratch my head for a good while. "The Strike isn't equipped to fight underwater" followed by the Strike having absolutely zero problems about fighting the aquatic MA was peculiar to say the least. Why even include that line if it's not going to happen? And what the hell was up with Mu/Rau's newtype-like sensing each other?
The action fucking loved its stock footage, especially in the second half, which coincidentially is the one where the choreography suffers a major blow due to the Freedom and its full burst attacks. However, I'm not entirely sure whether SEED's stock footage or IBO's YEAAAAAAART is worse.
The show went overboard with the melodrama at times, I believe I've seen the-one-who-was-15's death scene at least 10 times and the Skygrasper deathflag could be seen from a mile away.
Now, the good things:
The naval combat. I'm actually amazed I've never seen anyone bring it up before. SEED has absolutely the best naval combat out of any gundam series I've watched. Despite being chock-full of stock footage for every weapon, it's very engaging and the fact the Archangel is an active participant in almost every battle is great.
Mu and Waltfeld were great, especially Mu, who was basically Kurz Weber starring as Quattro Bajeena. Dearka was alright too. Some of the designs were great, like the Duel or Buster. Rau was a pretty threatening and hammy villain too, and the themes of the show were not bad, if pretty mediocre in their execution.
>>14629815
All la flaga and its clone are confirmed newtypes
>>14629815
Seed had its moments for sure.
Some of the combat early on is excellent.
The second half of the show suffered from trying too hard.
Also, I wanted to kill myself every time laccus was on screen.
>I decided to watch SEED to see if it's as bad as it was made out to be.
At this point it would be literally impossible for SEED to actually be as bad as it's made out to be.
It'd have to, I dunno, become sentient, murder your parents, NTR your waifu, cut off your dick, and then burn your figure collection to the ground and snort the remaining melted plastic to even get close.

Did she go too far?
Imagine the amount of Butthurt if Mirage win. Make it happen Kawamori.
>>14629424
Mirage is in no position to call anyone useless. Maybe it's projection.
She's right about the apple girl thing though. Weakling too, but to be fair Freya has a bard role. Probably not coward.
But yes, too far.
Nah.
Mirage is pretty knowledgeable about where she stands in this whole 'love triangle": She's the third wheel. It hurts her to know this, but she knows it. She's fallen for Hayate, but from her perspective, she doesn't stand a chance. He is inextricably connected to Apple Girl in a way she cannot begin to fathom or match. Worse yet, she knows its mutual. The two are basically made for eachother, and Mirage is just... there. She's the Normal Pilot living among actual aces and superstars.
But she does care for the two of her friends a lot. And they are having literally THE dumbest fucking argument ever. Quitting flying or singing so the other can do the thing that they only are any good at when they are putting it all on the line for eachother?
Mirage is hurt by this, because she loves the Hayate who is a smarmy asshole pilot who rejects her advice and does what he wants, when he wants, and always manages to succeed in the end. She respects and maybe even admires Freya because she has shown the strength to do the thing she wants when literally the whole galaxy is lined up against her due to circumstances and plot shit. And she knows the two are at their best when they support eachother with everything they've got.
So she tells them like it is. They are being cowardly and stupid about this by essentially offering up their own hopes and dreams as a sacrifice so the other can keep going on, forgetting that NEITHER one of them would even be there right then if they didn't work so well together to begin with.
TLDR: Mirage wants nothing more than the best for her two friends, even if it means giving up on this guy she's fallen in love with. The best thing for Freya is to sing, and the best thing for Hayate is to fly.
She's a good girl and will make some other guy very happy some day. It won't be Hayate though.

IBO
>>14628748
I'm actually intending on watching it.
So, following several people mentioning this, I watched it.
On one hand, the plot is mediocre at best, the characters flat, and the animation quality inconsistent.
On the other hand, the vocal music is amazing(ly cheesy), the action way over the top (GRENADE KNIFE MOTHERFUCKER), and I love it for that.

Now watch Genocyber. Geist was Ohata not really knowing what he was doing. Genocyber has a coherent plot and feels like it's actually working towards something rather than reveling in violence.
Also watch Cybernetics Guardian, because:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TS3NAkpdL8
The mecha designs are really rad, especially Geist's power armor.
I like the idea of him being a chaotic neutral main character that doesn't care at all about any other human being in the show.
Lets have a betterman thread.

I'm watching Genocyber right now, and am interested in another biomechanical/horror anime. Does this have cool action scenes?
