So this may sound odd, but at what points in the UC timeline does technology start overlapping? I mean past the OYW, and around the Neo Zeon periods.

We constantly see things about how some tech like the ReZel is better than the Geara Zulu or how the Geara Dogas were on an even playing field with Jegans, but where is that line etched in the sand?

How does a Doven Wolf fare against a Geara Doga? How does the Zeta Plus C1 deal with a Geara Zulu? When does the original Gundam lose against grunt suits a few years later? Does the Zeta Gundam hold up at all against things like the Gustav Karl?

I'm almost asking for a "What beats what" thread, but something a little more refined, I guess. Any ideas?

The stats. They're all just made-up scifi numbers but they're all we've got to go on. It's pretty clear in a few cases, but when the discrepancies are small or when a machine excels in one field compared to another but is deficient in others, then it becomes time for people to argue about fictional consistency on the internet.

No idea what you're trying to ask here

Look at the specs.

Hey /m/, I usually hang out on /k/, but I wondered if this might be a more appropriate board. Is Hawken within the guidelines of this board?

Seems more Japanese anime type stuff to be honest but I'll chuck it out there to see if there's any fans here

Everyone's always talking about their most beloved weapons, but how about defensive systems?

Energy fields, physical shields, deflection systems all welcome, if it keeps an attack from melting your face it's fair game.

Explosive Armor

I just watched the first episode of Zillion. Holy shit.
I guess it must be first episde budget favours, but the thing looked like an OVA.

Take a look:

So I was playing Sunrider: First Arrival and it dawned on me that this may not be the first of its kind. Aside from Front Mission, do you know any other mech games like 'em?

Looking at its gameplay video, it seems a bit like a bootleg SRW.

I'm trying this open-source Battletech game but learning all that shit is kinda daunting. Also, I found Titans of Steel which is a bit clunky but it's fun managing the team and designing mechs. I just hate how you need to be face to face with an enemy just to hit it reliably when you're low leveled.

>>11060926
I've only played one SRW and I don't think Sunrider's gameplay is as good. Also, I think the engine is working against it, UI is stupid slow at times. Still, I kinda liked how crazy hard it could be.

Just watching Megazone 23 for the first time. Holy fuck. Two god level character designers (Haruhiko Mikimoto and Toshihiro Hirano), and their character designs work perfectly together.
Also, do you miss 80s anime girls doing aerobics?

They even go to the cinema to see Streets of Fire in it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJGo2rvfSuA

That film influenced a lot of anime, incidentally. The Bubblegum Crisis opening live show is really similar to it.
>>
Sometimes I can't even tell if it's a Mikimoto or a Hirano character design I'm looking at.

Sup /m/. Survey question: When do you consider an anime old?

I was browsing /a/ and there was a thread asking recommendations for "old" anime, and specified pre-2000. Which is a stark contrast to /m/ where theres tons of 70s, 80s and 90s shows. It seems to me like /a/ focuses on anime from the last 5 or 10 years

Now I grew up in the late 90s early 2000s, and in the early 2000s Cartoon network aired a lot of 90s shonen. For me that's the starting point (Rurouni Kenshin, Pokemon, Dragon Ball [Z], Gundams G and Wing, etc). So I define "old" as pre-1990.

How about you guys?

According to the few anime-watching people I speak to off of /m/ anything earlier than Evangelion is practically unwatchable, so I suppose that means anything earlier than Eva is old.
>>
70s/80s

If it aired in my lifetime, then I don't really consider it old.

Ugh, I hate how /a/ rips on Zeta for it's animation, then worships all these bright flashy computer generated moe animes like K-ON

Ok, /m/, I really need some manga recommendations! I haven't been reading manga for very long, so if anybody could help me out with some suggestions then that would be fantastic.

What are some good (preferably old) /m/-related stuff? What's translated in the past few months? I have already finished Kikaider and Devilman and they're fantastic. The 70's was a wonderful decade for japanese manga.

To Terra manga. 3 volumes published by Vertical, all pretty cheap, all emotionally satisfying sci-fi from that pioneering era.

you can watch the anime afterward, if you want more of the story expanded.

Okay, not really old, but related to the beginnings of this kind of stuff.

Pluto, by Naoki Urasawa. Even if you're not familiar with the source material it is an amazing read. Urasawa at his best.

Not a Dream! Not a Hoax! Not an Imaginary Story!
A new Kakuranger has been subbed, and it's a Jiraiya episode!

Now that Lynxy's done with that massive workload of hers, Kakuranger is back on track, and will remain on track unless I have a mental breakdown during a subninja attack while being eaten by a bush.
