"You can't beat him in close combat!" Friday exclaims to Tony, and it takes an AI to analyze Cap's fighting style for Iron Man to get any punches in edgewise. And ultimately, he STILL loses.
It's not that Cap fans are downplaying Iron Man. It's that Tony had every advantage taken away until he was just a man. Through battle, Cap saw what you get when you take away the suit. Not a genius, playboy, billionaire philanthropist. A petty, emotionally stunted, traumatized orphan.

Got the BD yesterday and watched through the first few episodes, and why the hate? Stuff is happening each episode rather than the pure filler people made it out to be. And what's wrong with spending a bunch of episodes on a colony as opposed to on the earth? It's nice to see colonies as something other than setpieces to be exploded/gassed. Also Leina a cute. CUTE!

wireless power transmission is a thing. just difficult.
one of the more out there proposals to splve our energy needs is to have a satalite with lots of solar panels and a huge microwave transmitter that beams down the power to a relatively conventional power plant that has its water heated by microwaves from space.
downsides are its not very efficient and you can't let planes fly near the beam.
