Who's your countrys most well regarded literary figure?
>Canada
Pic related or Margaret Atwood
I've tried to read Frye and Atwood, and I must say, being Canadian kinda sucks
but, in all honesty, our most important "literary" figure is probably Leonard Cohen
>>7385864
This is embarrassing.
>>7385864
HE OFFERED HER AN ORGY
IN A MANY MIRRORED ROOM
I'm halfway through this and it's getting really boring. I really enjoyed the beginning and thus powered through it but at the point I'm at it's debilitatingly bland. Anyone else find this?
This is even more low effort bait than the one-word pig cartoon threads
>complaining about boredom
>literature
Pleb.
>>7384051
what does that even mean? You never get bored no-matter what you're reading?
Autist.
How old were you when you realized that 1984 isn't a dystopian novel; it's a reality novel
we're more Fahrenheit 451 anyways
>>7384128
451 may be the worst book I have ever read.
>>7384030
Oh man I wish.
Strict, hierarchical separation of the classes and a morally vigilant authoritarian leader is the only panacea for our (the west) current ailment.
What are some good books about space marines?
>>7384008
Starship Troopers obvs.
Infinity Jest
/lit/ i'm learning french, prescribe me your favorite french literature
French is a rather tricky and difficult to learn language. How well do you read it?
>>7384027
I would say I'm at "L'Étranger" tier
>>7384040
You should wait one or two more years before reading literature.
Opinions on this book? Thinking of asking for it for Christmas.
Also, any other religious history texts which are must reads? I'm interested in the development of all the major religions.
Funny, I'm reading that exact book in my history of Christianity class.
Fantastic read but only if you're interested in history from the beginning. MacCulloch is never afraid to spend too much time on interesting details that may not carry huge significance which is something I appreciate, also he manages to remain objective while having a distinct voice throughout, something a lot of historians seem to struggle with. He also spends a lot of time delving into some of the more abstract theological concepts, which can be a make or break for a lot of people

Is this list just a meme?
So far read Mockingbird and Catcher In The Rye, both were really kind of boring.
Refuse to believe they are must read books.
Really want to get into reading - is the rest of the list that bad?
>>7383806
>Refuse to believe they are must read books
Because they aren't. This is the pleb intro kit.
Siddhartha was good, I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it's one of those life changing books, but it was enjoyable and did a good job of weaving philosophy into the story
Why do you want to get into reading, for fun or to be well read or to be able to act pretentious?
What are some good entry-level Russian adult books? Like the Russian equivalent to Lord of the Flies or The Catcher in the Rye or something, but doesn't necessarily have to be fiction.
>>7383676
>sticky
>by origin
>russian
>There's a famous russian urban fantasy writer who hasn't been translated into fucking anything I can read.
I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS.
>>7383682
Dostoevsky and Tolstoy aren't entry level.
>read pic related
>characters coming out of nowhere
>random ramblings throughout
>doesn't seem to follow any particular aim
>it just suddenly stops
What was the point of this?
>>7383631
try reading it again, use spark notes if you don't get it.
>>7383631
farts
god you're retarded
Soo umm, how do I stopwatching animeand startreading books?
I recommend buying a book, and then reading them, and not watching any more anime as it's a total waste of time.
>>7383590
As they say in the LaBeoufian school of thought, "One must simply engage with the necessary actions without recourse, else it leads to perdition."
>>7383590
Tip: don't read unless you actually like it.
Any other books that completely BTFO whole ideologies?
>he thinks animal farm BTFOed anything

>>7383587

>>7383584

Just read picrel and it fucking blew me away. Really loved all the questions it raised and social commentary. Anyone know any other great dystopian novels similar in themes? Preferably not Philip K Dick because I like variety in my reading
>>7383477
Fahrenheit 451 is a great book in my opinion. I'm currently reading Brave New World, but I'm not sure how I feel about it.
>>7383526
You're beautiful, thank you.
I thought no one would reply
Do books actually make you smarter? Or is that just a load of shit?
>>7383473
not if you read pieces of shit like that
>>7383482
What books make you smarter, then?
Not really, you can just parrot something someone said in a situation that you find yourself in.
