What does everyone think about a /lit/ book club?
The Infinite Jest and Gravity's Rainbow reading groups seemed to work well. I think one for the Recognitions is in order, or 2666 (or maybe The Savage Detectives).
That's as close to a book club as I want from here, personally.
When and what are we reading?
>>7382045
I was thinking to have a book club on Skype and actually have it as a sort of discussion room instead of a thread which is eventually archived.
>>7382046
I'll have to set up this damn skype account so I can create a group for us to speak in. I was thinking we could have a sort of 'overarching' curriculum... read one major book from each literary time period... chronologically of course. Then discuss.
When is when I get about 5-10 people who can commit and contribute somewhat frequently. Once or twice a week, an analysis or some links would be at least sufficient.
Just finished Blood Meridian. Holy shit. Somebody help me collect my thoughts.
>>7381890
seems like i've found my next book
been hearing alot of good things about it
Am I really the only one that thinks the prose of this book is quite poor? American authors are trash.
>>7381907
It's certainly overwrought. OP is probably new to books and probably has a weak personality and so he was overpowered by the "gravity" of BM's self-indulgent prosody.
I just read Winesburg, Ohio and I was blown away. I loved the small town themes. I loved the simple, but impactful writing. I just loved it. Should I read more Anderson? Where do I go next? Any recommendations for other books like this? Bonus if short stories.
Is this wizard of Oz reverse shit
>>7381728
I..
pls
Our Souls at Night is very short and similar enough.
Is John Ashbery's translation of Rimbaud worthwhile?
>>7381708
you are about to get memed on. just fyi.
>>7381708
Rimbaud is a meme
>>7381708
>translations
What are the most edgy/shocking philosophical questions? Also, how do you get normies into philosophy?
>>7381689
normies find anti-natalism pretty shocking. it's quite entertaining to see their defense mechanisms go into overdrive.
>b-b-but muh kids!
>muh hormones!
try it out for a good chuckle
>>7381689
also, you don't get normies into philosophy. if someone gets into philosophy in any serious manner they cease to be a normie. the two are mutually exclusive.
>>7381689
Why shouldn't we [insert edgy/shocking action here]?
Ethics
Does that make Stirner the most edgy philosopher, because everything is permitted?
Sup /lit/. Trying to get back into reading again, what would be your recommendation for war novels on tankers or pilots/aircrew men? I see a lot of books on infantry but not on those in the vehicles. Bonus points for WWII and nonfiction
>inb4 bullshit like fury
Also general war literature

>>7381690
Thank you! But what does faith mean?
>>7381711
*famtbh
Can you guys recommend me some books about health, fitness, and the general well-being of the human body?
Thank you.
>>7381651
Fitness, like human endeavor in general, is pointless vanity since everyone has at most a few decades of life, followed by death. We are no different than mayflies, where it counts.
But OP, if you would like to maximize your mayfly-existence in this way, /fit/ is the better board to ask. They even have a sticky that they demand Everyone Fucking Read before they ask any questions!
>>7381680
You sound like you're a lot of fun at parties. What a sorry cunt.
>>7381651
start with the greeks
Have you ever used OmmWriter?
are there any free programs like that?
>>7381659
pyroom?
>>7381639
Just use vi you fucking retarded fags
Any recommendations for nihilist literature of any kind?
Also nihilism general.
What is purer and more satisfyingly absolute than a belief in nothing at all?
>>7381504
It's pretty great. You begin to appreciate things for just what they are to you, which feels freeing and appears to work just fine for me.
It triggers the fuck out of Christians though.
>>7381519
They dont exist, nothing exists
>>7381527
The concept of existence doesn't exist
Guys I just had a fantastic idea for a book.
There are some dudes who are going for a long ass journey through the American South. Most of the time nothing really happens, and I'll just write some long passages about the landscape, but that'll be punctuated with really intense, brief violence.
That's not even the best part. I'm thinkin about having some sort of enigmatic antagonist who's less like an actual person but more just like a force of nature.
Think anyone would read something like this?
>Guys I just had a fantastic idea for a book.
>posts it publicly on 4chan
>>7381402
>not getting it
throw in some bears and i'll read it
>half way through
>already think this might be the best book I've ever read
Let's talk about it.
old man fyodor was the best karamazov
Always was intimidated by Russian lit. Thought it might be too earth-shatteringly existential. This book is that, but it's also super comfy. Also, this book made me believe in God
I recommended this book to my mother, I hope she likes it
can anyone recommend some rudimentary philosophy texts
>>7381283
I'd recommend listening to some of the Yale freshman philosophy lecture series on youtube and from there pursue some of the texts and writers you find interesting. Just being handed assorted texts will be frustrating and less productive beginning for you
>>7381308
thank you! i'll go check them out.
>>7381310
Alternatively, you could look into Plato's dialogues. After reading one, look up analyses and lectures on whatever you read. It's a good start to philosophy, most of them are short, and Plato's dialogues are weirdly stimulating (for me, at least).
I honestly don't know shit about political theory & I rly want to get into it. help me out here, /lit/
me also
Go through a history textbook, mark all political ideologies which arose, their time, their reason(s), their most important texts, and their oppositions/ critiquing viewpoints.
>>7381302
that seems like a lot of work!!!!!!!!
Hey /lit/,
/ic/gd/ here. Sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you could tell me what your favorite book covers are and maybe a tidbit on why.
I have to design a book cover and I can't tell if clever simple illustrations/graphics are better or dramatic illustrations of scenes.
>>7381238
Minimalism is in right now, so make something simple.
>>7381247
Damnit, that is totally not my forte.
>>7381238
Which Goosebumps book is your favorite? This is probably mine
infinite jest?
This one, probably. Why doesn't /lit/ have its own children's horror series?
