Reading Dennis Rodman's book "Bad As I Wanna Be". In it he, describes the first time he met Madonna. A magazine wanted them posing together for a photoshoot. During the shoot, they got hot and heavy, and had sex as soon as the photographer left. Rodman says his junk is huge and that Madonna often called him "the perfect male specimen".
This is the photoshoot they met doing, image from the book.

Why the fuck am I reading this? Why is it so critically acclaimed? Also, what the fuck is wrong with Guy Ritchie that he spent 10 years with this skank while she adopted 4 African children?
I think I had phone sex with him once.
you're a cùckold, harry
Dennis Rodman is a traitor to the United States and should be hanged.
Madonna is a dumb degenerate slut.
That's all I have to say.
Tell me about the main ideals found in Candide. I don't feel like reading it.
>>7431611
Tell me why I should do your homework for you?
>>7431618
I knew I should have said >inb4 le homework
I'm a college student studying everything except philosophy and this has nothing to do with homework. The semester is over now anyways it's December.
You're travelling and you can only pick one of these books with you:
"The Road" - Cormac McCarthy
"Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" - Carl Sagan, Ann Druyan
"Hatchet" - Gary Paulson

the road.
then i would stop in a book store and buy some more good books.
I sage this stupid thread and tell you to fuck off and only make one when you have something worthwhile to discuss

I would take one sell it. Then, with the money I just gained, I would by The Recognitions: the only book one could ever need.
Was this fat literal retard the hero of Lord of the Rings? He's basically a midget mong, though. When Frodo is leaving he's willing to drown himself just to not be left behind.
If Frodo had not pulled him by his stupid hair he would have just drowned and Frodo would be revered for his experimental eugenics.
>>7431567
frodo is christian virtues
sam is greek virtues
both are gay.

Woah you just opened a big allegorical can of worms for me
How does one get into Arthurian lore? Is there such a thing as chronological reading or obligated stories?
what's with the revived interest in medievalism all of the sudden

When writing a novel and throwing ideas around, do you guys ever have to fight the urge to make a sort of "Extended Universe" for the novel, i.e., wanting to write full stories involving characters other than the protagonist that are well outside the original scope of your novel?
In general, I suppose EUs aren't bad, but most of the time they feel less genuine than the original tale and seem prone to becoming stale.
I extended my universe into your mom while she seemed prone
i just write whatever i feel like and cut the extraneous bits. they strengthen the main story by way of making you informed of the depth that isn't going to make it in the final cut.
also stop calling it expanded universe you genre pleb

Hey /lit/,
I'm trying to read about the roman empire but I can't get through stuff like Suetionius, English isn't my first language and it's too fancy to understand anything and I quickly lose my interest, nothing sticks.
Any books you recommend or any tips on how to read more properly?
Bump
read this it's accessible and comfy
>>7431221
Thanks, they have it in my native language too I've just noticed.
Should you ever read translations?
Is it worth a read?
Despite all the DFW memeposting that goes on here /lit/ never brings this book up.
if you like dfw already
i wouldn't go out of my way to read it if you don't
Personally I found it fucking intolerable. I liked Infinite Jest and I get that DFW has a stream of consciousness-y style sometimes but this read like a bad imitation of it by some girl on Tumblr.

Finished IJ a couple months ago and really enjoyed it. Knocked off a couple books from my backlog since then and wanna read more of his fiction.
Deciding between this or The Pale King but all I hear about TPK is that it feels so broken and unpolished (cause it is I guess)
What's so bad about ideology? Is it just the fact that people don't often recognize its influence on their thoughts/actions, or is there a valid argument to be made for a person's thoughts or a society's culture to not be driven by it?
>I see a fair amount of posts here deriding "le ideology" which, without a solid grasp on their answer to the question above, seems very fedora-ish.
>>7431160
The former is a major reason and because of that influence, it can lead them to make foolish decisions. The latter is more of spookbusting.
>>7431160
>What's so bad about ideology? Is it just the fact that people don't often recognize its influence on their thoughts/actions
it's not bad in and of itself, it just means you're stupid. explicit articulations of thought that happen to agree with current ideology is fine.
> a society's culture to not be driven by it?
this is incoherent, read more on what ideology is.
>I see a fair amount of posts here deriding "le ideology" which, without a solid grasp on their answer to the question above, seems very fedora-ish.
mein gott pure ideology
People's world view can be distorted by their ideology. There is tons of psychological research on bias. Many people do not even read opposing views.
Now, there is nothing wrong with a person having a good ideology or a society having a good ideology, but it becomes detrimental if that person or society cannot escape a particular ideology when environments change or new information is found.

I'm trying to read A Clockwork Orange but I keep getting stuck flipping back and forth to the glossary in order to understand the Nadsat language. Does it ever come naturally or should I give up if I dont understand 10% of the way through?
>>7430964
You might. A lot of it is just logical inference.
I didn't really like the book. Mostly because of the message, which is a bit fucked and a perfect example of the dangers of extreme liberalism. That being said it's worth trying to push through.
>>7430964
You should be able to figure out most of it from context.
>>7430964
wew lad, i didn't need the glossary once
Does this mean my IQ is above a certain point? I think so
