Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House
>No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.
Joe Hill, Heart-Shaped Box is pretty good desu

I only find myself doing it when I'm speedreading something. Usually take my time with actual literature and stuff, but while I'm online reading shitposts or updates on whatever I'm following it tends to arise.
So the recent thread on The Faerie Queene intrigued me, and I think I'm going to give the poem a shot. What's the best version out there?

Hey guys, I was wondering if any of you knew the name of this one children's picture book I used to read, wherein a group of small people (possibly gnomes) use fantastical contraptions to make their way to a child's bedroom. Most of their inventions include winches and pulleys. I remember specifically them using a device to climb/rappel the stairs leading up to the second floor of the child's house. I think they may or may not have been trying to get the tooth under his pillow, I can't remember exactly.
Anyways, would anybody here happen to know the name of this book?
pic unrelated

Paine pretty much ignored everything Burke said and essentially re-iterated everything Burke criticised with no-hint of self-criticism.
Paine was a polemicist, not a thinker.
If Paine was right then why aren't Iraq and Afghanistan stable liberal democracies? And why did Revolutionary France degenerate into tyranny and military dictatorship?

Pynchon, Rabelais, Mozart. Scatology is patrician.
Fact: you aren't patrician until you read and understand this

What did you understand?
You aren't patrician until you read Finnegans wake and get all the references and jokes on your first time

Dear Memerson retards,
In your own words, what is postmodernism and why is it bad?

Are you so insecure about your pathetic life that you have to attack the pathetic lives of others who've formed a cult around a decent guy, however, putting his psychpussy on a pedestal?
I don't know where I was going with this.
I think he's framework of viewing things and the recommended behavior is a very pragmatic and functional one. It might (?) even be so, if only one individual does it, cuz otherwise it'd be a band-aid solution to all and thus kind of an ideology.
I think he's spending too much time on old ideas and not thinking up anything new, but that's more opinion, I guess.

Is English your first language?
I want to broaden my horizons as a writer and get into playwriting.
I've already dipped into screenwriting but I'm interested in plays.
What are the essentials and where can I get copies of the plays to read

It's the best way but arguably the most difficult way.
Requires great respect for readers and a balance of exposition and suspense
