What is it about Russia that inspires such incredible writers? Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Bulgakov, Solzhenitsyn, Nabokov, Gogol, Chekov...I think the only country that can compare in terms of sheer literary talent is the United Kingdom but they had every amenity and the highest institutions of learning in the world available to them, not to mention incalculable resources and a quarter of the world's population under their control. Meanwhile Russia was a starved, frozen tundra barely out of the clutches of feudalism that then got thrown into 80 years of Soviet Communism.

If you're talking about England/Britian they seriously suck ass with the exception of a handful of poets. Ireland on the other hand, is a country that can compete with Russia

Living in Russia is suffering and the turbulence makes a great setting.

Who cares.
People have been trying to cash in on 4chan fame for over a decade and these days anyone can self-publicize a book through Amazon.
What do you think of "The Satanic Bible" by Anton LaVey?
Luciferianism is much more interesting than Satanism IMO, especially with the magical elements in LaVeyan Satanism.

Can somebody recommend a decent free resource for online chapter summaries for GR? I'm about to start it and just want to make sure I'm not missing the important details.
https://www.ottosell.de/pynchon/rainbow.htm
This is the go to, but try to understand each section without it.
>>9852739
If you don't like the story, what do the details matter? Or are you one of those people that believes fiction contains important life lessons? Like you see novelists as oracles?
If a novelist has something important to say, they're not gonna risk having it misunderstood or hidden. They'll let you know what they're talking about.
Pynchon has nothing important to say. Enjoy the ride if you can.

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. I figured someone here would have it.
>>9852762
Interesting questions. With the other Pynchon books I've read, I enjoy his prose and thought-provoking tangents, but I often get a kind of anxiety as though I might be missing some important detail. I'm beginning to see that this is intentional on some level, on Pynchon's part. But having a chapter summary to "review" the important details of the chapter just makes his writing a little more enjoyable for me.
What's the best piece of furniture for prolonged periods of reading? I usually spend much time sitting on the office chair, so I need something comfier for my leisure time.

thanks!
This is an extremely vague request but I'm trying to find a book on Nazi Germany that I remember borrowing from my school library when I was 11 or 12. It was pretty large in dimension (more like an art book than anything), full of photos, and with a pretty in-depth history of the era (even going into stuff like The White Rose). I specifically remember it having a full page print of this image. I don't think it was really meant for middle school kids, so if you have any idea, don't limit it to age-appropriate stuff. thanks.

What do you think of Leo Strauss?
I recently bought Natural Right and History and try to get into him.
General tips and recommendations concerning Strauss are also welcome!
Interesting thinking. You might also be interested in a Schmitt thread that happened a while ago. If the thread is still up when I get back I'll go ahead and post the link to that.
>>9852662
Doesn´t seem to be up anymore. Yeah, i also read the "political theology" by schmitt and some book about it.
>>9852676
I was talking about finding it if this particular thread is still up. Of course the other one is down. Just check the archiving site if you are curious. If not I'll try and post it later in the day.
Years of internet seem to have degraded my concentration abilities a fair amount and it results in me being unable to read even a short book. Whenever I try to read a new book, I'm stuck on the same page, reading a single sentence over and over again while my mind drifts. Then, suddenly, something clicks and I can read for 50 pages, like I could years ago.
When I pick up the book the next day, I seem to have forgotten half of what I had read the previous day and am stuck on re-reading the same sentence over and over again.
Have any of you successfully solved this problem? Does meditation help? If so, how to start? What other things should I to to have a clear mind again?

Sleep consistently the same hours.
Eat well and exercise.
Engage in active rather than passive activities in your down time.
Change your cultural habits to suit the ends you wish to achieve not tomorrow, but five years from today.
Learn about technological determinism.
Read books on different subjects that you're interested in and practice coding chunks of information into symbols or narratives.
Read, review what you think you know, reread, question what you thought and look for instances which brought about this understanding. Then reread.
Look into extending your working memory.
Learn simple mathematics.
Learn to play an instrument.
Learn to draw or paint.
Learn to integrate your seething subconscious into things outside of yourself. Study them and their relationship to the part of you that is paying attention.
Don't destroy your painting and stab yourself in the heart. Persist, negate, worship the moments when you are clear headed, pay attention to yourself, and cultivate gratitude towards your capacity to reason.

Thank you very much. Could you expand on extend the working memory? How to do it?
Also, I have learned simple mathematics, have been playing music for the past 10 years and have been accepted into an art academy for painting.
Also, please expand upon this: "Learn to integrate your seething subconscious into things outside of yourself. Study them and their relationship to the part of you that is paying attention. "
>>9852095
I've solved it by pushing through. There is no magical tip, you just need to consistently sit down for two hours and read. Don't do anything other than go to the bathroom if you need to. That's it, just do it.

What do you think about the aesthetic of an author?
Does it influence their popularity?
Does it make you more / less likely to read their work?
Is a consistent aesthetic image or physical "brand" important for an author?
