Are you jewish?
>And Simone falls asleep before her candlelit Virgin, certain that the little wooden figure is convinced of her purity, but more than ever tangled in her own doubts. And Jenny rises from the bed with a pain in her stomach, throws the leftovers of her boiled tree toads into the slop jar, and burns her illustrated copy of Macbeth in the stove. And the old boltcutter, having shouted so long across the river and drunk so much thunderbird, begins to forget that the voice calling to him is his own. And the vines and tides climb; and mildew stalks the front-room rug where Hank left wet footprints; and the river roams the fields like a glistening bird of prey.
remind me again why you guys hate him so much

That's why.

>Google quote because it's obviously not Green
>only result is this post
John Green memeing is one thing, doing it with your own writing is beyond the pale.
>"He can’t think, he can’t write. There’s no discernible talent.”
What did he mean by this?
>buttblasted pedophile smears actually relevant authors
>Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
>tfw noticing your fellow readers grow up, you know what he means too well
>bibliography and suggest reading largely contains impossible to find books that are out of print
It's called a university library...

This and doesn't USA has some sort of connected 2nd hand books store site? We have one here in brazil that has jigazilions of them. I managed to find a copy of "The call of the Cosmos" By Tsiolkovisky in english printed in the URSS. It was lying arround in the amazon because god knows what.
> Bibliography contains pleb content, viewer's discretion is adviced
What's the difference between cynicism and pessimism? And why do people keep using them interchangeably?
Cynicism is looking at a situation objectively and realistically, pessimism is consciously applying negativity to a situation, whether it warrants it or not.
>>7703399
You would ask that
vs.
he's probably going to ask again.
>>7703399
The cynic tries to ignore social convention
The pessimist thinks that good things happen for the worse (pleb version : a statistically even situation "has more chance" to have the bad outcome)
>muh caste
>muh soma
>muh government makes people dumb
How the fuck do people like this shit? The whole book is a nuisance.
>>7703395
You can describe any book ever written with
>muh x
>muh y
try harder
>>7703395
>muh reductionism can turn any book into a pile of shit to make me look edgy and smart.
>>7703395
>he reads blueprints of utopias for plot
Recommend me some good books which deals with the theme of having realized that you'll never make your mark in history, but have an optimistic (or maybe stoic) view of still living life as it is nonetheless, unbothered by the mediocrity and mundanity the common life gives.
Preferably fiction. I've read Stoner, and it was great, so more in the same vein i guess.
Death of Ivan
One Hundred Years of Solitude

Thanks for the recommendation, will add these to my to-read list

book of disquiet
Hey /lit/, thought I could use some help with choosing a title of my project - right now I really don't have the mental energy to think of it because of a shit tonne of stress from other things, but I can easily just follow the sequential process to finishing it.
What do you think of this question, for 5,000 words?
"To what extent did the period of decentralization of an Ancient Greek State in particular reference to the series of events constituting the Peloponnesian War shape the identity and impact of Hellenic Culture onto the Ancient World?"
Possibly with some background knowledge of Ancient Greek history, make it easier to collect sources for, make it more in depth and suited to the word limit.
Thanks, just this one favour guys!
bump
please guys
this sounds like someone who for all means wants to sound smart. the question has no practical/philosophical value but only suggests that the one asking it knows about all the topics mentioned in the question.
tl;dr you sound like a loser whose last stand in the world is his "intelligence". get a fedora
okay thanks but as I implied, this question is pretty shit, just looking for help, any tips instead of stroking your cock as one of the many intelligent audiences out there

Are there any contemporary ethicians doing work regarding the integration of homosexuals into mainstream society and its possible problems?
ethicist
>>7703221
Ethician is valid as well, my friend.
What do you think about Perry Smith? Was he a sociopath? Is he the real killer of the 4 victims? Could he have lived a normal life?
>>7703218
Yes. Yes. No. I definitely felt empathy for perry but I think he was smarter than he let on and I think capote was aware of it as well but bought into it so he could have a sympathetic character for his book. What did you think?
I've tried writing some stream-of-consciousness prose and was wondering if anyone could give feedback. Feel free to post anything of yours as well.
I wake up and feel warm and there is tea for me downstairs to see him smiling at me makes me feel good in the only way I know sit next to him he's warm he's soft he moves up-and-down as he breathes I can hear it slightly in his chest and he leans his head on my shoulder I turn to him and everything's happy and now he's on the phone and looking out of the window and it's the morning and neither are dressed yet yet he wears a loose shirt that hangs over the peak of his bum its tight roundness is hard and gentle and powerful and held up by soft warm legs that could helix with mine under the sheets as I feel his hot entirety against me devourable and protecting the spiking curve of his lip hooks onto mine and we both are one connected and inseparable! then I am fully taken by him and collapse beneath filled with the strong hard heat of the sun my hands pull his back and I am crushed and red boiling and damp mixing with him with each pulse of the body's full flowing beat strong and liquid poured like a slow bullet into a river his chest rises and falls rises and falls rises and falls as always but it is hard and louder melodic and singing now in chorus as we both die and are reborn.
Stream of consciousness calls for having an interesting mind, which you do not have. Have a complimentary sage.

I would love to be able to write like this. I am going to save this. I'll reread it again and again. it really made me happy, felt like I was in domestic tranquility w feeling. really nice anon.

Thank you, but would you care to go more into what you mean?

Explain.

kill him why don't you
>>7703087
I felt slightly nauseous the whole time reading it. The sections focused on Toerless's thoughts are dizzying and everything else is just a horrible picture of humanity. Plus Basini's misery was just unbearable for me and made me think back on every time I've ever seen someone abused.
Anyone else get really quiet when working on a longer piece, like a novella or novel? Or even shorter ones? I tend to shutdown in terms of being social, like all my words get funneled into my work and I have nothing more to say out loud.
Great thread.
I follow a basic hemingway rule of write drunk edit sober, so I end up alternating between getting fubar and vanishing for days at a time
>>7703034
That's the only way to get it done on any decent timeframe.
Anyone else struggle with this? It was so laded with so many allusions to psychoanalytic and philosophical concept that it was hard to take everything at face value.
Was the marlin/sea supposed to be the Freudian mother type deal or was it about overcoming the ego entirely which happens in the end. The earliest stages (oral, anal) were apparent in the beginning of the book with the boy was a given but it got a bit complex later on.
you seem to think this is funny bait
it's really not
