What's the difference between cynicism and pessimism? And

Cynicism is looking at a situation objectively and realistically, pessimism is consciously applying negativity to a situation, whether it warrants it or not.

The cynic tries to ignore social convention
The pessimist thinks that good things happen for the worse (pleb version : a statistically even situation "has more chance" to have the bad outcome)

Cynicism is being distrusting of things that appear to be good. Pessimism is arguing that things are not very good themselves.

cynic is someone who has been disappointed by/has low expectations of other people. A pessimist has a negative view of life in general.
