The way that the society controlled it's people was quite Orwellian and disturbingly like real life. This book is a harsh warning and it's a shame more people haven't read it.

You pissed the point, champ.

Fuck off retard.

Reading 1984 is necessary to feel why the word 'Orwellian' exists and can be applied to works written before him. I read that book front to cover in one sitting. I felt depressed for the rest of the week. The man had a great talent for prose that Huxley lacked, though Huxley's political ideas are every bit as powerful.
It's also pretty much the harshest criticism of utilitarianism in print. I remember arguing with someone about political liberty somewhere, I used BNW as an example of how hedonistic pleasure isn't an end all, be all. He responded by saying BNW was a utopia and anyone who thought otherwise was deluded.
It pains me to know that people like this exist.

I was going to post about how people that view 1984 so highly should be shipped off into concentration camps, then I remembered that the US already exists.
>>7703747
Everyone has read it. Everyone.
>>7703747
There's no need to read it.
Just pick up a fucking newspaper.

>He responded by saying BNW was a utopia and anyone who thought otherwise was deluded.
And if 1984 was real life he'd be a prole.

Wut, were you speaking with a fucking crackhead?
I think people should not be allowed to read 1984 or Brave New World until they've written a 5000 word essay on how modern, Western democracies have unprecedented and generally increasing levels of freedom, education, and quality of life.
>>7705248
Isn't that the whole point of BNW though? Overwhelming variety and information overload?
>>7704240
Most likely he didn't read the book and doesn't realize that a utopia is meant to be an idea that is nice on paper but impossible or destructive in reality. He just heard that it's a book about a utopia and thought that it's automatically good.
>>7705269
There is no information overload in BNW. Most people don't know anything about world history or even how technology works unless it's their job to design it.

Hacksley's shite isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
Why do you faggots fall for bait?
