The New Testament
Aristotle and Epictetus helped me with that, my man.

Siddhartha helped me.
Heidegger helped me.
I read a different translation of the Tao Te Ching every so often.
I read certain books in the Bible.
Anyone read it? Is it the magnum opus of English literature?
>caring about length o er substance
Fucking plebs.

Sounds fake

It's real.
Is it possible to make a living freelance writing?
If so, how can you start if you have no experience (not counting novels/screenplays you might've written)?
And what are the options? Content mills? Erotic fiction? Anything else?
>>8272700
Not really, no. It was a decade or three ago, but these days you're not going to get paid shit for writing under normal circumstances unless you already have years of experience.
>>8272772
>unless you already have years of experience.
not even this.
>>8272700
Depends on where you live. In some eastern european countries with a low cost of living, you could pull it off. Back when I was writing for content mills, I could get $5 or $6/hour if I put some effort in, and that is more than enough to get you through in, say, Slovakia or Hungary.
Defend it.
It lets non-white people seek public approval for texts that traditionally would be ignored by their peers, normalizing poetry production and diffusion.
It holds some merit in the sense that it encourages people to try to formulate their ideas and thoughts in a semi-empowering environment.
I hate most of slam poetry. Overrated and usually just hyped up shit (think 22 Jump Street). There are definitely some speakers whose 'poems' tend to hit very hard, and they have enough well-written verses to appeal to the minority and majority.
It seems more like a visual performance than one meant to have a huge amount of literary merit.I think it really all depends on the delivery.

How to Speak and Write Correctly,

Adler's book is mostly about the mechanics of reading, while Bloom's is mostly about literary appreciation

>Verne is generally considered a major literary author in France and most of Europe, where he has had a wide influence on the literary avant-garde and on surrealism.
>His reputation is markedly different in Anglophone regions, where he has often been labeled a writer of genre fiction or children's books, largely because of the highly abridged and altered translations in which his novels are often reprinted.
>mfw the autistic butthurt patricians who spam the Harold Bloom quote about Harry Potter multiple times every single day are all Americans
>mfw the Europeans don't give a fuck and just enjoy whatever they think is good
>>8272178
20,000 leagues was pretty great though.
Bloom likes lots of so-called "genre fiction", you aspie, and I doubt he dislikes Verne.
>>whatever they think is good
oh boy get a load of this guy

/tv/ was useless so im asking you guys
from a mechanical perspective, what exactly makes chinatown "the best screenplay ever written"?
>>8272051
it's not really, people just like saying that - the twist at the end is retarded. however - note the descriptions. gettis is never described, yet you can see him perfectly.
>>8272051
It isn't.
>>8272051
What the fuck made you think that /tv/ would be helpful in any way?
Lit, why is it that I can't stand to read a book if it's on my kindle, I prefer to have the physical copy of it in my hands? I have been meaning to read lolita, but not until I get it in hard cover copy (the hard cover copy is only a dollar more than the paperback).

>you're not getting enough human-to-human touching in your life
This is actually true, although you couldn't have come to that conclusion without a lot of chance.
>go to small, quiet park after work to be outside and read for a bit

Fuck normies.

>>8271983
If they're really normies they've probably seen more trees and flowers and birds than you have thanks to their frequent social outdoor excursions
you fukkin faggot
>>8271991
>Failed normalfags are still normalfags
nah. Being a failed normalfag is worse than being a dysfunctional faggot because people will still expect a certain degree of sociability from you.
which authors should I read? my favourite novels are Anna Karenina, To the Lighthouse, Soldier's Pay, and Absalom, Absalom
>>8271906
bump
am I being too vague? I also sorta like Dostoevsky (but not that much), I like kafka, dislike Pynchon, "eh" on Camus
>>8271906
Try reading other works by the same authors, I guess.
Since you like Kafka.
