Try Ancient Greek, followed by Latin, followed by Sanskrit.
What does /lit/ thinks about the works of Stanisław Lem, for me he is probably my favourite writer, ant the only reason I am happy to be born in this 2 world, post soviet shithole. I can read his exact words.
But I digress, is he known outside of Poland, what do you think about his works?
Star diaries are wonderful.
Everyone knows Solaris but nothing else really
A shame, his short stories are great
i thought solaris was okay. It got a little too verbose toward the end, and it was extremely unclear as to what the fuck was going on, but the beginning was engrossing
ITT: We assume what a poet or author's personality may have been like
Dickinson:
Shy, probably a freak in bed, wouldn't want to go on dates in public, decent sense of humor but not hilarious, would probably talk a lot about anxiety once you get to know her, she'd get annoying
It's telling that what she's like in bed is one of the first things you think of when describing someone's personality.
shy if you didn't know him, effeminate & an agreeable sense of humour

She didn't have sex.
Where to start with Carl Jung? Is it better to have read other specific works from other thinkers beforehand in order to learn more with Jung?
>>9077772
Freud you cunt.
Mans and his Symbols is deliberately written as an introduction to his work.
>>9077772
Start with Memories, Dreams, Reflections. Gives you a sense of the man behind the ideas, introduces many important concepts, and puts them in context. It's also a really enjoyable read.
You can then choose any of his topics as you want.
Does anyone know where I can get this book without paying?
Fuck, I forgot the title of that book and coulnd't find it again. Thanks for this, dude.
The library
>>9077751
>tfw reference only
i can't read books, especially long works of prose fictiton, at the library.
Alright /lit/, what's your opinion about Eugene Thacker ?
I really like cosmic horror in fiction, especially in Lovecraft's works (no memes please), but I'm a bit afraid about a more philosophical approach of cosmicism. Isn't it too edgy ?
ITDOTP is good if you're interested in the intersection of horror and philosophy. Whether or not it's too edgy depends on your own temperament, I suppose.
Agent Bork: Chief, you know that guy whose camper they were thacking off in?
Agent Fleming: Bork, you're a Federal Agent. You represent the United States government. Never end a sentence with a preposition.
Agent Bork: Oh, uh... You know that guy in whose camper they... I mean, that guy off in whose camper they were thacking?
>>9077809
WHAT IS THIS AMERICAN THING OF NOT ENDING SENTENCES WITH PREPOSITIONS?
>tfw rejected for publication again
if you keep posting these threads you might just find a publisher who appreciates your genius one day
Keep tweaking the rgb values, editor said there was too much teal and not enough aquamarine.

Are any of the new canon Star Wars novels worth reading?

Did anyone here to to private school? What was it like? Did you start with the Greeks ?
went to catholic school for two years in elementary
>>9077399
It was boring, we only ever read Sophocles and Euripedes.
>>9077399
I attended Catholic school from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Huge emphasis on the classical traditions and classic literature. Heavily influenced by religion.
>author think he appears sophistocated if he spams his whole book with references that only he gets
my diary desu
>>9077349
are you talking about mr joyce xdxd
>>9077477
Joyce's references were good tho. They had a point to them.
What does /lit/ think about this guy Foucault? Every hipster kid in my college name drops him but they don't seem very smart.
>>9077337
Discipline and punish is good
Ask them why he dropped communism
>>9077343
yep
>>9077337
Very good ideas man, bad historian.
How do I improve my reading compherehension and speed /lit/?
I meditate often which has helped tremendously but I still seem to have trouble memorising little details of a story.
>>9077322
How small are we talking? Because I'm sure people forget a lot of details to stories. You can't remember everything, OP.
>>9077323
I dunno, I just feel disconnected from the story I'm reading sometimes.
>>9077322
Reading comprehension and reading speed are an inverse relationship so you'll have to consider emphasising speed or comprehension and this will depend on the quality and complexity of the text.
Sometimes when I feel disconnected from a text I find it helps to stop reading for a moment and reflect. Try asking yourself questions about what the text is attempting to communicate from time to time and this will help you form a personal connection. Sub-vocalising and reading aloud can also help with reading comprehension.
If you're looking to memorise important sections of text it would be helpful learning a memory technique such as memory journeys or memory palaces to aid with memorisation.
>An average booktuber will have more reach and influence than you will for your entire lifetime
I work in film development so no not really
i want her to tie me up on her bed and then film the raw pre-edit footage for six full length booktube videos right in front of me, just hours upon hours of cringe-inducing over-emoting and screeching and contentless rambling with sassy embarrassing sitcom cadence in every other word, redoing the same takes again and again and again until i can't take it anymore and i'm literally begging her to stop. then she kills me
Nobody wears that shade of lipstick unless they have come to play.
What the everloving fuck is this meme? It's almost always unclear what is going on, the author is way too fucking vague and half of his sentences make sense whatsoever;
"Harvard. Quentin this is Herbert. MY Harvard boy. Herbert will be a big brother has already promised Jason." Is this meant to be shit?
>"the sound and the fury"
>expect some kind of war memoir, or some kind of divine mythological literature
>it's about some fucking boring ass southern hicks
>>9077247
frankly, this. It has 0 appeal at the moment. I can see that there's some dark secret in the family and its probably something to do with incest but I don't give a shit about any of the characters. Why is this book highly regarded??!
Why do people come to this board to feed their ego?
You're stupid, plain and simple
