I work at a gay bar currently along with regular ones.

They hire straights/whatever but it's rare those ever apply. Usually it's more they borrow a hetero bartender on a busy night from some other bar the manager knows, bartender does good, pick him up other nights, eventually becomes a regular bartender. Known a couple straight guys that got hired that way though they'd previously worked at male strip clubs before.

You'll get hit on more but it's really not that different from working any other club or bar. You deal with event nights and the same kinda drunks. Tips are the same. Drink names run lewder. Gotta practice that rainbow shot technique. People make out more and the bathrooms are honestly about the same level of gross.

But in general they're very cliquey in hiring practice. Unless you have experience and recommendation from another bar that gay bar owner knows or you're a friend of their head bartender or suck some dick you aren't likely to get hired. If you do get hired quickly just for walking in and asking for a job I'd be worried that was a place so desperate and high in turn over that it'll be closed down within a few months.

actually you know what I'd say gay bartending is a little more interesting if you enjoy making a wider variety of drinks

regular bars you expect basic beer orders from the guys and for some girls to be more indecisive so they just try random stuff off the menu but ultimately pick some shot

gay bars have neat drinks and come up with weirder shit and homos are strange sorts of alcoholics that'll order the most obscure shit. So it's fun in that way. It's kind of a bitch on busy nights and some asshole wants a singapore sling but I've learned more drink mixes at gay bars than straight ones by far. And I'm so fast now I can make it to top bartender at a regular bar in no time.

I don't think that they weren't experiencing gender dysphoria, but at least in my case the internet showed me that there was such a thing and that I wasn't alone in it.

I had trans feelings well before I knew what trans was. When I was a teenager, my mom sent me to a therapist for depression and after the initial session, the therapist just said, "Oh, this all makes sense now. You're transgendered." Started reading and it fit the bill, so I started transitioning as soon as I turned 18 and finished high school. I grew up in a backwater in the armpit of America and didn't know gay people existed until I was like 13, didn't see a black person with my own eyes until I was 8, and didn't know that you could be trans until I was 17. I wouldn't be surprised if others in hicktowns and out in the middle of nowhere had their transgender epiphanies on the Internet. It seems likely if you have trans feelings but haven't encountered any trans people or even the idea before.

i always wanted to be a boy but my parents more or less shamed me out of it by the time i started school
when puberty hit, the feelings came back but i didn't know what to make of it until i read about it online
everything then made sense

i see no issue in people transitioning because they learned about it online, because I'd like to think maybe they were in a situation similar to mine
