I finally got my refund from my amended tax return and I wanna get a good quality rifle. My local gun store is having a sale on the Sig MCX, for $1,200.
I'm debating between buying that, or maybe just getting a new upper for my basic bitch Ruger AR-556. And I'll spend the rest on optics, accessories and ammo.
What should I do /k/? Is $1,200 for the MCX worth it or should I just upgrade my AR?

Was something similar like pic related ever used during WW2? Of course they would have lacked the computational and automation technologies, but for the lack of a better term, a "Directional flak shell".
The basic concept being it's similar to a regular timed shell set for a certain altitude, but instead of it throwing shit 360 degrees, it would use a shaped charge in order to release a cone of shrapnel upwards, thus throwing a bit more shit at the general direction of enemy aircraft than an ordinary flak shell would.
Would such a thing have been feasible, or would it have added unnecessary complexity for little to no gain? I'm familiar with how explosives work, but know fuck all about aerial warfare beyond War Thunder, so please enlighten me.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but seeing as the large caliber flak shells were used to create areas most pilots don't want to fly through, and from what I've heard those were also used similarly to minefields, in order to funnel the enemies into certain zones, wouldn't the two work together for greater effect?
Funnel the enemy bombers into a zone that is targeted by batteries loading the directional shells, set to go off below the attacking bombers. Even if the "cone" of the directional shells was something like 180-120 degrees, it could still throw more shrapnel at the targets while not targeting individual planes. I'm not sure how fast the shrapnel lost their kinetic energy or what their effective range was from the point of detonation, I guess that's the biggest factor here.

believe me. with the range estimation methods of WWII you are better off just firing omnidirectional fragmentation shells with a timed fuse right into the formation.
you shells will explode under, over, besides, near, far away or you might even score direct hits but you will never be able to know that in advance.

Yeah if it's semi, nay if it's pump. Pumps need you to toggle the slide release, which isn't as comfy to do with a pistol grip on most shotguns. That and mossman pump actions have their safety on top of the receiver, making it even more awkward.
