Honest question.
Why are pistols only widely issued to officers in the military? Why not issue them more to enlisted men as backup weapons?
If the answer is "They'd be more effective with a few extra magazines of rifle ammo than a pistol", then how does that not apply to officers as well? Is a pistol just a status weapon like an officer's sword at that point? If then, why even bother issuing pistols outside of niche roles like SF and tank crews?
>>34903658
Officers take pistols from the arms room because they are small, light, and officers don't really fight. There's no practical reason.
>>34903658
>only widely issues to officers in the military
everyone gets a sidearm, wiseguy. at least in my unit but we were rangers so
They're weak weapons with low range that only people who can't use rifles are issued. Officers need them for summary executions.
>Used to browse /k/ everyday

>Milsurp has dried up
>Every new gun is yet another AR or AK
>V2 of some lame handgun getting released every month
>The MDR is never getting released
>Radom factory in the US cancelled (no MSBS)
What is the point? Every "new" thing that gets released is just a rehash of the same damn thing we've had for decades. There's been no change in the market for years, despite getting progressively worse. I can't do this anymore.
>>34903621
It's called a saturated market WTF you want. It's way better than what we were facing 5 years ago, don't be so quick to forget you pessimistic cocksucker. Go cry elsewhere

Do what? Dick around /k/ and watch youtube videos? Lighten up, faggot
There are thousands of neato guns already out there that you're not yet aware of.
Would it make sense for soldiers to wear more body armor if they're usually somewhere cold?

Large home-shotgun
Small/tight home-handgun
practice and training is more important than the gun but use the biggest thing that is practical.
Just how chaotic would a modern-day conventional war between well funded 1st world militaries be?
Extremely precise and boring
No one would be able to move due to drones/aircraft, if one nation did get an edge in air superiority then then the war would be over extremely quickly
>>34903538
It would look like chess with engagement ranges.
>>34903538
It would be a massive bloodbath followed by a truce after 3 days.

So as a 19 year old newfag. What should be my first gun purchase/how should I start.
(No handguns, cannot own one until I'm 21.)
What kind of shooting do you want to do?
Are you a WA anon?
Whatever you do
Do NOT listen to ".22lr is gud for beginners xD" retards
It's fucking not, .223/5.56 is perfectly fine for beginners and you will seriously regret it if you get a smaller caliber rifle

You aren't very original.
I bought my first handgun a couple months ago, a Ruger .357. Great gun. I picked it because I hang out in the woods a lot, and I wanted something that could take on black bears, feral hogs, and
skinwalkers.
My priorities have changed since then. Due to a personal issue that requires an increased level of personal security, I've been carrying more. I want to get small automatic so I can carry it more easily. I'm a poorfag though, so I'll have to part with my revolver first.
My question is: does .45 offer enough of an increase in performance against larger animals to justify the reduced magazine capacity compared to 9mm?
I don't mean to start a caliber war, but I want to hear other people's thoughts on it.
>>34903302
10mm
They both suck.
>>34903302
>.45 offer enough of an increase in performance against larger animals to justify the reduced magazine capacity compared to 9mm?
No, but neither is ideal for aggressive four-legged animals.
Friendly reminder that autumn is approaching, and with it comes the Canadian scourge.
How does /k/ deal with these feathered foes?

Thank you for posting this, I've been trying to remember the name of this style for like eight fucking months.
With all my searching the closest I came was to a clip of them training but it didn't have the name of the school.
