Historically, which group of Native Americans had the most lasting impact?
Want to learn a Native language so I can better study Shamanism (I'm getting a doctorate in theology, wanted to explore "earthly religion" and the primal beliefs of Natives). What should I learn?
>>3236859
There are more details surviving about shamanism from Navajo and other western tribes but among the Native Americans with a more lasting impact you have Cherokee and Creek.
Ofcourse thats just North America. There's actually quite a lot of shamanism still practices in central and south america. The Tlaxacalteca/Nahua language might be extant still.
>>3236919
Reckon the Cherokee's are the largest?
>>3236859
Keep in mind that not all Native Americans practice shamanism. In some tribes, at least in the North-Eastern USA, they have "carriers of the medicine"; the so called medicine men/women instead. They do more rituals where they burn herbs and say a couple words, offer support, etc. They're typically elders too.
So it depends where you live anon. Figure out the tribe, check if they have shamanism in their history, see if they're willing to allow a non-native to participate in their beliefs, and go for it.

Could any random Mexican cartel in the modern day defeat the Roman empire at their height?
>>3236621
No. Beaners are too dumb and disorganized to actually conquer anything. Even if they win a battle (very probable what with modern weapons vs guys with swords), they'll be too busy raping and killing each other over stupid shit to actually extend their rule.
The Romans literally have to do nothing and the frijoleros will wipe themselves out in like a year tops.
>>3236621
With chapo in charge, possibly but still unlikely. Currently, nope. Cartels are in the midst of a power vacuum without chapo and they are busy killing eachother trying to fill the void. Roman's had the superior leadership, fighting tactics, and numbers. While they would lose many men due to the cartels superior weaponry, the roman's would remain persistent and win because of reasons stated.
depends what they brought with them and whether you're talking about random gangbangers or serious business ex-military
What was the public opinion or speculation about what was on Antarctica when it was first being visited in the 1820s?
Was there any sensationalized media circulating hype there were humans there or some other ridiculous things, or have we always known it was relatively lifeless?
>>3236604
The biggest draw for exploring the Antarctic was simply to find and map both the magnetic and geographical poles of the Earth. Yeah, nobody expected to find much other than ice, but I'm sure it was still interesting for geographers to fill in the last blank spots on the maps of the world.
For the uninitiated, this video will give you a quick rundown on the bonus army situation.

What evidence is there to support the "October Surprise" theory?
For those who don't know the conspirayc theory, Reagan's campaign made a secret accord with representatives of the Iranian revolution not to release US embassy hostages in Tehran until after the 1980 election. Reagan's people were afraid of an 'October Surprise,' that is, an early release of hostages could give Carter a major boost at the polls.
Where did the idiotic meme that "modern Jesus = Cesare Borgia" come from? There are essentially modern looking pictures of Christ from antiquity.
>>3236360
It originated as an Afrocentrist thing I'm pretty sure
I'm not too sure where he himself got it from, but Nietzsche mentions Borgia several times throughout his writings and probably did a lot to popularize the name.
>>3236360
It's because a particularly popular depiction of Jesus is thought to be a recreation of a painting originally of Cesare Borgia.

The Mongol leader Temujin (AD 1167-1227), better known by his title Genghis Khan (Universal Ruler), was a man of strongly Nordic racial ancestry. According to the Persian historian Ab ul Ghasi, the tribal clan to which Temujin belonged, were known as the Bourchikoun (Grey-Eyed Men).
The ancestral mother and founder of this clan was known as Alan goa (beautiful Alan).
According to the Mongol and Chinese legends on the subject, she was said to have been visited in her tent by a divine being, who possessed golden hair, a fair complexion and grey eyes. Shortly after this visitation, she gave birth to the first member of the Bourchikoun clan.
Temujin himself was noted in Chinese descriptions of him, for his tall stature and heavy beard. We should also note the following depiction of Temujin's appearance, as given by Harold Lamb, in his biography of the great Khan:
"He must have been tall, with high shoulders, his skin a whitish tan. His eyes, set far apart under a sloping forehead, did not slant.
And his eyes were green, or blue-grey in the iris, with black pupils. Long reddish-brown hair fell in braids to his back."
Ab ul Ghasi also observed that the family of Yesugai, the father of Temujin, were known for the fact that their children often had fair complexions, and blue or grey eyes. Temujin's wife, Bourtai, bore a name which means "Grey-Eyed".
Temujin's relatives and descendants also possessed fair features: Temujin's son and successor Ogadei, had gray eyes and red hair; Temujin's grandson Mangu, had reddish eyebrows and a red-brown beard; Subatei, who conquered China, had a long, reddish beard. Indeed, it was said that people were surprised Kubilai Khan had dark hair and eyes, because most of Genghis Khan's descendants had reddish hair and blue eyes.

>Research published in 2016 suggested that Genghis possibly belonged to the haplogroup R-M343 (R1b).[11] The controversial result was based on analysis of five bodies, dating from about 1130 – 1250, that were found in graves in Tavan Tolgoi, Mongolia. The remains of all 5 bodies belong to the Mongoloid physical type and are believed to be possibly related to members of the Mongol "Golden Family", at around the time of Genghis Khan, although it is uncertain whether the Y-DNA haplogroup marker belongs to the Borijigin clan or the products of clan marriages between the female lineage of Genghis Khan’s Borjigin clan and males of other clans/tribes from Mongolia or Central Asia.
