I understand that you can draw a distinction between manmade things and everything else but I'm trying to convince myself that the natural world includes mankind and all it's constructs
my main analogy were how a tree would synthesize various elements from soil and the atmosphere in order to create itself and those ingredients would have come from combinations of other things
I honestly don't see how it's possible to refute the point that anything man made is natural as they are made by mankind which is a part of nature using things that are also - you guessed it - natural

someone please prove me wrong, I'm desperate for a counter argument that holds any weight at all

Just invent whatever metaphysical categories you need to justify having differences between things.
That seems to be what (((philosophers))) do to earn a living.

Specifically you could take a biological framework that a species encompasses all "tools" it invents as a part of it's natural development, and then classify all human culture and technology as "tools", bing badda boom, everything is "natural". EZ
>>
Things made by sentient beings were created with an intent and have a purpose. Things made by non-sentient beings have no intent behind them and no more purpose than those animals' droppings or erosion building funny shapes in rock.
>>
>>1610078
I should add, teleology is our attempt at understanding natural systems by interpreting them as sentient agents.

to me an important part of horse archer based combat is the ability to disengage. Meaning that anytime their advantage is lost they will leave. This allows a horse archer based military will only fight in favorable conditions.

By fighting in favorable conditions, be it numbers, choosing the battlefield, time of day you give yourself a serious advantage in the battle. This sounds obvious but when you look at the second punic war that was basically hannibal's greatest strategic move

different landscape, basically. Horses struggle over mountainous terrain because they are topheavy, and putting an armored soldier on top does not help. They ruled the planes, though.

Logistics and technological limitations, most arrows fired didn't hit shit, had a short range and couldn't reliably punch through armor. In battles like Carrhae arrows carried the day because the commander had set up a supply train to supply an unlimited amount of arrows the the fight

Also the Chinese used box formations of crossbowmen protected by pike and spears to fight barbarian nomads

Hi /his/,

Any paralegals in here, friends with any, or those that have knowledge about the profession? I'm 28 years old and considering a career change. The law interests me, but I'm wondering if paralegal is a wise decision compared to going to law school.

Of course law school is very expensive, and much longer (3 vs 1 yr for para), but I'm confident that I have the grades to achieve that as well. However, from what I've read on the net, people shouldn't go to law school because they're "thinking about what to do", as it just leads to stress and unhappiness. Yes, the job market is awful, but an end goal would be private practice.

This is why I feel like a paralegal program would let me get my feet wet in law. Having said that, I also don't want to waste one year, or be ridiculed either (as it's a female-centric profession).

I appreciate any advice. (I'll also post in /adv/ but I feel like /his/ posters will be more passionate about this topic). Thanks dudes.

Lawyer (certified counsel) here. I am not from N.America though, and my understanding of American system is a bit lacking. Nevertheless, I will try to help you.

You must judge the pros and cons before you decide. First of all, ask yourself when you'll want to be when you hit 40. If you want to have a private practice, or at least an independent position in a law firm, then I think that law school is a better option, since they give more comprehensive training. You will be taught different branches of law which may help you when you'll search for your own niche to fill. Practicing as a paralegal (which I understand as an assistant to lawyer) will give you practical knowledge from those branches of law that you patron is practicing. It may give you immense knowledge in this particular field (if your patron is good), but not necessary beyond that.

Also keep in mind, that in this profession relations and friendships are basically as important as knowledge and skills. You must be known in your environment to woo clients, including especially being referred to by professional colleagues. Ask yourself, where you'll forge more friendships - at law school or during practice?

>>1609419
>Of course law school is very expensive, and much longer (3 vs 1 yr for para)

What do you mean by this? In your jurisdiction practicing as a paralegal gives you same rights as finishing law school? Like access to the attorney exam?
>>
>>1609419
Paralegal is basically a secretary. You carry shit to court to file, make copies, mail things out, and do stuff like that.

>a paralegal program
Do you need to do extra schooling to know how to read and write, and to follow simple directions?
>>
>>1609490

>What do you mean by this?

Canadian here. Paralegal program is typically 1-2 years while law school is 3 years. That's all I meant.

>ask yourself when you'll want to be when you hit 40

I suppose I'm just wondering, if I decide to go to law school around 30...is that too old? Can I still become established by 40?

Thanks for the responses.

What is his big problem with sin anyway?

All seems pretty arbitrary to me.

Sin creates scenarios that are equivalent to like...imagine a group of monkeys killing each other for one banana. That frenzy-like behavior.

It's hard to see because it can be brief. But lets say you're poor. You have no conviction. You discover what we know as extortion.

Now you're feeding yourself through extorting others. Another hungry person see's you and also learns how to extort, or maybe you feel bad for another hungry person and you teach him how to extort.

This person, may become even more ambitious to steal by force when you were just doing it for food. So now you have someone who's harming even more people then you were. Someone see's him participating in this, only this 3rd person now wants to unionize it, turn this type of theft into an enterprize.

All this stems from a single guy who was just hungry and unable to be calm and patient (definition of patient is long suffering) in his attempt to support himself.

But you now have a frenzy of offenses being done upon people.

And it doesn't stop here, this applies to sex. Someones simple unbridled appetite for sex could lead to sex slavery in insanely immoral scenarios.

Sin spreads, it's a complete letting go of your internal control and just handing your intent over to consumption thats the appetite of the flesh.

This is beyond a powerful influence in the lives of man, I mean government to this day, with all we know about treating each other fair, with love, all these men in this groups and enterprises...they still insist on murder and theft. You know what they do to union organizers in south america? They kill them. All this is for a mass appetite of money among groups of men that sit together.

Now this is why Christ came. To tell you you're already loved for one, there's no need to feel like you lack anything, no reason to listen to the flesh in this way. Not only that, but God knows how hard it is, so he forgives over and over. Just don't take more than you need. Let him supply.
>>
>>1609408
Sorry, I butchered that second to last paragraph.

**we all know the benefits about treating each other fair and with love, yet all these men these groups and enterprises....they still insist on murder and theft.
>>
But yeah, that's what sin is. It spreads and spreads until everything is operating in a less optimal way.

Sin is the manifestation of evil. It's the cost of living in the polarity of good and evil. Having this knowledge of Good and evil.

I mean it really makes you wonder about the tree of knowledge.

We wanted to know what the gods know, we wanted to see what they see, instead of being taken care off every way possible, we wanted to know more and see more and be like gods, maybe the first sin was pride on our behalf? I don't know....we wanted to be equal with gods, as the story goes anyways...

Meanwhile, we can barely exercise the discipline to sustain life in a uncompromising structure of our own creation. We can't stop sinning against each other for money, women, and vain power.

And man has the nerve to think he's above God? I don't buy half the arrogance and pride people try to force upon me by way of their beliefs and disposition. I don't know, people can beat their chest, be the proudest non believer and most knowledgeable, but you're only king in your own head, I don't recognize you as such.

But yeah, that's why I personally believe in God and Christ. I see a correction attempting to be made in a world that thrives in the incorrect. If it's not some proud and arrogant 20 year old that's only safe because he's behind the safest walls in modern times, America's walls, he's never been hungry, never struggled, just pretends like he's a king in his own mind and ideologies, meanwhile in reality....he's just as vulnerable as the rest.

No. Even if you fail I think there's some merit in even attempting to put the right message across, for the same reason that I think it's not a waste of time to try and rehabilitate the most unreceptive of criminals.

I'm guessing you actually mean "is it possible", and I think it is. It's very difficult no doubt, but the trick is to make people not feel threatened.
>>
no, you are putting ideas in their heads that they might accept when they grow up a little
>>
In my experience arguing with people is a waste of time. This should also be obvious since you can only convince someone of the truth if you believe what you are telling them is the truth. If you believe what you are telling them is the truth, no amount of arguing from your opponent will change your mind. Two people believing that their beliefs are absolutely true will eventually come to blows if left together long enough. The victor of a "debate" is normally decided by vote. A majority vote has nothing to do with truth, it's rewarding style and sophistry over truth.

You can "change their disposition", but this has nothing to do with truth. You can change their probable beliefs into deluded fantasies. You can change their disposition from one of truth seeking to one of zealotry. I don't know why any decent person would do that..

As an interlocutor, you are attempting to discover truth through dialectic. If you believe that you have discovered truth before engaging in "debate" you are simply proselytizing that truth. To seek truth, two people must come together with the intention of discovering a truth that may lie beyond both of their preconceived beliefs. They must cooperatively and humbly overcome a problem in good faith. Leave your pride at the door.

Unless your beliefs are all a priori, you had knowledge of "Justice" and objective religious and political "truth" before you were born, your beliefs have probably changed over time (there is even the question of whether the "self" that supposedly believes beliefs is conserved over time!). If your beliefs are shaped by the world around you, and in flux, then indoctrinating people into your current view of the world could lead to them arguing against you in the future. Imagine a dictator that kills all those that disagree with him on x, what happens if the dictator changes his mind? does he commit suicide?

You can only change someone's disposition if you are also willing to change your own.

What caused the Mughals to fall? Was the power vacuum left by their ultimate decline the cause of British domination in India?

Aurangzib alienated Rajputs and other Hindu subjects, then basically created a centralized authority among the Marathas by his ineffectual attempts to conquer the Deccan.

After Aurangzib and his immediate successors died, a period of court intrigues ensued in which a series of ineffectual emperors were raised by various factions. This led to decline of central authority and entrenchment of local governors as de facto local dynasts.

Finally, the Persian invasion by Nader Shah in 1738. It was such a devastating defeat that any prestige still left with the Mughals was gone. The state continued to exist only in name from then on.
>>
>>1609118
>>1609187
As this guy already pointed out, Nader Shah was the real nail in the coffin: the entire army wiped out, delhi sacked for weeks, 500.000 civilians slaughtered in the capital alone, and the entirety of the Mughals' royal treasure taken as war spoils were what doomed the already fragile empire.
>>
>>1611163
Don't forget when a bunch of Indian nationals murdered a few Persian soldiers, Nader carried out reprisals that killed thousands to make a point that the Mughals were decisively dead.
