Does it strike anyone as odd that everyone supports the American colonists (owned slaves) yet daemonise the confederate soldiers in the American Civil War? Isn't that a wee bit hypocritical, Americans?

There's almost a century between those two wars.

Sure, but other civilised nations had done away with slavery earlier than the American Revolution.

why did we only have Poland gain territory from Germany? Why not also give clay to France and Austria?

The Soviets wanted Polish land and in order to justify their annexation of Eastern Poland, they gave the Eastern German territories to Poland. Plus the Germans kinda did mass exterminate Slavs and eastern Europeans

There are more religions than christianity, effectivelly reducing your chances of "eternal joy" to laughably small one.

It seems like any position in favor of religion gets more lenience socially than those against it. It's fascinating.

Is the biggest redpill of all that the illusion of free will is necessary for the existence of our civilization?

In a civilization where our deterministic nature is acknowledged on a societal level, a chaos would most surely ensue because that's a big variable change. Not to mention that whole organs of our governments operate under the assumption of free will, and inevitably collapse if it's taken away (criminal justice).

Think about it, both sides (theists/atheists) have struggled with the argument of free will to a point where it's almost an impossible argument to make, and yet most of us believe in free will, isn't it the biggest cognitive bias of all?
And since religion is the only thing that managed to convince people in such a retarded concept as free will, I guess it was necessary if not inevitable if we wanted to progress as far as we have.

Yes, theoretically, the concepts of objective morality and free will are impossible without God.

Practically however most people won't stop to comprehend whether or not they have free will - people intuitively believe in it.

Objective morality is a bigger problem. Most people in Western nations are living in the afterglow of Christianity. They might not even believe in God, but many of their moral principles derive from Christian teaching. As secularism continues to march forward it's difficult to say exactly what will happen - but it won't be good.

Short bio: Heydrich was constantly called a Jew growing up, so he took out his boyhood suffering on actual Jews. He killed a bunch of people, got mortally wounded by Czech partisans, and died like a bitch. Now thousands of internet sperglords worship him. The end.

It's interesting to look at the inspiration behind the beliefs, morality and codes of this piece of popular fiction.

It draws on the age-old device of good vs evil, through the establishment of the Light Side and the Dark Side, the Jedi and the Sith.

It has themes such as destiny and choosing to accept it or reject it, confronting the sins of the father, and the conflict within yourself.

It seems as if the main ideas of the Jedi are borrowed off the teachings of Judeo-Christianity, Buddhism and Liberal Humanism.
The radical ideas of the Sith seemed to be based off of the idealism, nihilism and egoism of 19th century German philosophers such as Nietzsche and Stirner.

What do these influences convey about our understanding of good and evil? What are Star Wars' messages on philosophy and ethics?

There's a lot of articles and interviews, and even books, about George Lucas's view on morality and philosophy and its inclusion in the Star Wars saga if you're interested in doing some digging.

Feel free to have your own discussion on the subject.

Well the EU began to explore concepts of Jedi and Sith ethos that wasnt divided along lines of morality but iirc lucas had an autism fit and declared it non canon.
>>
>>2115933
It's all about dealing with emotions. The OT is pretty on the nose, Vader and the Emperor are assholes who just do what they feel like because they can and let themselves be ruled by the worst parts of their nature while Luke and friends learn to exercise restraint and discretion and overcome the same parts of themselves that destroyed Vader.

>>2115943
>EU wasn't allowed to go into DEEP philosophy
no anon you are autistic, Lucas' vision was always the sane one. The idea of 'balancing' the force by any means other than completely rejecting and attempting to eradicate the Sith is retarded. They are an disbalancing force in the universe because they are unbalanced people. It's not complicated. Just because the Yin-Yang is a thing that exists that doesn't mean that rapists and murderers have a place in the world.
>>
Perhaps the (old) Jedi Order and the Sith were both causing an imbalance in the Force?
