WTF I see at least 55% of gaymers that shoud be using Windows 10 but instead choose to use inferior versions of Windows.
Why is this?

Would this be reliable enough for regular desktop usage? It's a SanDisk Ultra II 960GB drive, looking to upgrade from my aging and rather filled 120GB Crucial M4 from years ago. The speed is primarily used for games with slow ass loading times and regular OS stability/speed.

go for it. Its getting to the point where if you aren't using any forms of raid, the average reliability of SSDs are actually great.
>>
>>54882035
Cool, I was just curious because some no name brands are horribly unreliable and I wasn't sure if SanDisk was notorious for anything.
>>
>>54882002
Stick with well known brands. I put one of those in my old laptop. Runs like a dream.

I just built my first PC! Woo!

Specs:

MOBO: MSI Intel Z97 LGA 1150 DDR3 USB 3.1
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1 80+ GOLD
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 LGA 1150 CPU
GPU: NVIDIA 760 (don't judge all my games I've played including GTA5 run at ultra)
Ram: 8 gigs

Whatever, I'm excited! Now I have a question, /g/. I need your help.

I have an L shaped desk (pictured) and I want to know the best setup for my PC and my two monitors. I also have a 3 foot long mouse pad that takes up a bit of space. Suggestions??

(I know it's a mess, sorry. Just wanting inputs before I go OCD and make everything look clean and neat)

Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to take a peek at the coding of the firmware for a go kart data logger gauge. I have a firmware update executable for the device. I opened the .exe and found a write .data file. Aside from looking at the gibberish in notepad what can i do to look through the actual lines of code that this thing runs on? I assume I need to figure out what language it was written it first, how do i do that?

The device is a data logger and gauge set that is used on racing go karts, it was high end hardware back in the mid 2000's but its trash now. I want to re-purpose it as a gauge cluster for my motorcycle. It reads temperature, RPM, and has a lap timer input from factory. I want to change the timer input signal to a speedometer signal. I do not think this should be too hard as bicycle speedometers do exactly the same thing i intend and they cost less than 10$. Also I believe the same processor was used in the higher level models that could track speed and a few other inputs. It seems that the firmware updates for all of the devices is packaged in the one executable, which gives me hope that the code from high optioned devices could be copied over onto my entry level device.

obviously i am no programmer but I can stumble my way through this project.

If you're curious the file can be found here.

It's probably far easier to write your own firmware than to edit what's there
>>

Oh boy, unless you know how to reverse engineer assembly code, you certainly won't get very far with this.

sounds like im SOL

IS there no way to even look at the code? forget trying to edit it or load my own on the device fro now.

I just had to refresh my Windows 8.1, it was on a eternal loop of ''Windows 8 started in a wrong way press here to restart'' and now all installed programs and games were lost
fuck Windows 8, i already lost everything on 2 hds because of this shit, can i get Windows 10(not paying for it ofc) without Microsoft spying me and deleting my files and all this things people say?
i also don't want to downgrade to 7 because now it looks just as ugly and outdated as Windows xp for me

just get it honestly, most people on here are just doing the whole "WINDOWS 10 BOTNET MEME JEW SCHEME" thing but with my experiences with it, its been great. Also if you really need to, there's a program out there that edits the registry to disable windows 10 tracking.

I'm putting together a computer build list.

Is there any reason to buy 120mm case fans that are more than $8?

Did you spend more than $8 on your fans? Do you feel jewed?

Everywhere I look people are spending 20 bucks on those ugly Noctumeme fans. But is it worth it - for the less sound, and the increased airflow?

It just seems like a big ripoff. It's a fucking fan!

>>
The only thing id buy a decent fan for is the CPU cooler. Anything else for miscellaneous airflow shouldn't be expensive
>>
Don't get those gaymur LED ones. They look super tacky and I regret getting 2 for the front inside of my case just to provide an ambient glow inside the case.
>>
>>54881884
The cheapest one I can find has a blue led, lol

Shouldn't take more than 5 seconds to rip it out

>>54881873
I suppose in my use case I should maybe spend a bit more. I'm using a SG13, and there is only room for a single 120mm fan. I'm using the AR06 as a cpu cooler

Hi /g/

So, summer has come, and I will have plenty of free time, and I want to spend it on something useful. So, I've decided I want to learn to use a graphics engine, but I don't know which to choose.

Unity: My first option, I've been experimenting with it and I kinda like it. This engine is "easy", "tidy", and somehow I think I might be "comfortable" using it, it's such a strange feeling. However I'm afraid that I might be losing my time learning this, it's not commonly used in the industry, and the few "pro" games made in it are mostly cheap mobile games.

Cryengine: Pros: C# which I already know, provides incredible looking games. Cons: not many games are made on it, not many studios use it, and I heard it's the hardest to get used to.

Unreal Engine: Lots of games made on it, awesome looking games, from Bioshock to Mass Effect, lots of studios working with it. BUT, i find it like if it were a mess, I hate the UI, how things are done, and there's only option for c++, which I will have to learn.

I make this emphasis on how much the engine is used because after finishing my degree I'd like to try luck getting in the game industry. So I feel that learning the most commonly used engine (UE4) would bring more chances of succeeding than learning an engine that is not so much used (Unity, for example)

Maybe you should ask on Kodi's website?
What do you expect us to do? Make kodi not suck? Make some epic pull requests? Compile it for gentoo and give you the compiled binary?

I use Kodi all the time. It's a wonderfull program.

What do you not like about Kodi / XBMC? It recognizes my media library, is extremely customizable and light. Using Kodi to play local media in a home theater and Plex is truly a god-tier setup.
