Anyone use Rainmeter for their desktop? Looks useful but I heard it's kinda bloated and slows down shit considerably? Idk
>>55012779
I use Rainmeter. Task manager shows it utilizes 2% of my 4790k.
>looks useful
no it doesnt
>summer comes
>rainmeter threads start popping up
What a surprise
When did you grow out of this fat communist retard?
>>55012764
Who is that? It better be someone famous because if it's some obscure dude that only users of certain niche stuff know, then you're autistic for even caring.
>>55012764
Never.
Why? Were you his pubic hair at some point?

What does RMS actually do? Does he get paid by the FSFoundation or something?
Why would anyone pay him to lounge around and "advocate"?
And how much did he code back in the day?
So /g/, how do I get into IPv6 for my LAN and IoT devices?
It was always buggy as shit when I tried enabling it in the past (not sure if it was my ISP or the modem) so I've always disabled it on my modem and my OpenWRT router. Now I'm reading that it's become more widely adopted. Should I re-neable it? How hard is it to assign IPv6 addresses to my devices? Should the modem be doing this (since all internet connected devices can have unique IP addresses) or should I still use some type of NAT and keep my LAN on IPv4?
>>55012759
>not sure if it was my ISP or the modem
probably not ISP. definitely not modem
>How hard is it to assign IPv6 addresses to my devices?
It depends on how old your devices are
Your modem is simply the point where the ISP meets your home. In other words it is your connection to their service
>>55014149
not to be an asshole since you took the time to reply to this post but absolutely nothing you just said comes even remotely close to helping me or providing any sort of actionable advice

I told my firewall to not acept IPv6. I don't want to be tracked...
I'm looking at the Lenovo site using the corp discount but the site is so bloated and has awful design. Is there a quick way to compare models, I was thinking of buying a new x260. I really only like buying things that recently came out. I really hate buying used hardware, are "new" thinkpads still worth it. The x260 with 1080p screen is about 856 usd for me.
If you insist, yeah, go ahead and buy one, but you can still buy brand new older models and refurbished ones that are fully upgradeable and will preform way better than the ones you're looking at.
>>55012935
But I don't want a used laptop... And my thinkpad configs end up being 1k+ and I don't even want a desktop replacement. I just want a reliable laptop that will last me a few years, also it feels like I'm playing the lottery with the new thinkpads. Some of them have screen problems (x1 carbon) and headphone dc issues.
>>55012751
Nope, you're better off getting a RX480 it's only $199
So, how many of you ever actually finish any of the coding projects you've started?
As for me, I usually finish my smaller projects because they either manage to do what I needed them to, or because I can't be fucked to finish the rest of the functionality I wanted or planned.
I always abandon my larger projects because I get bored and then want to do something else that's new and shiny.
>>55012741
Bumpity-boo.
See there's your problem. Its not a project if you don't have it planned all the way through.
Set goals and don't move the goal posts.
Then if you need it to do something else you start a new project bases of the old one.
I finish most things I start but admittedly a few things are rolling works, anything network based, or god help us mobile needs to be reworked more often than I like.
The things I never finish are projects where the employer shit the bed and cuts or haggles funding.
>>55013083
Yes, a lack of planning is my problem. I suffer from ADD and my thinking all day everyday is just a scattered mess.
And it carries into my coding, because I don't have the patience to actually realize WHAT I want my project to do. I only have a vague idea, and immediately jump in, and requirements change as I go along.
The funny thing is that earlier in my life, I didn't have this problem, as I worked on some pretty large projects in an organized manner back in the day.
Personal problems have turned me into an emotional, medicating, short sighted wreck these days though.

Great, AMD supports a religion whose purpose is to wage violent Jihad on all non-Muslims. Fuck that company.

What does /g/ think about le fat man?
I can't watch his stuff because he has to act like an insufferable manchild with all the stupid high pitch voice overs and face pulling. I don't know if he does because he wants the Linus audience for views or it really is the way he his.

I think all his 3D printed content is really cool, He does a lot with it and is very invested in it. It's interesting seeing all the shit he prints.

Algorithms Edition

Can someone help me with this, I am new to C++ and have no idea what Im doing.
I use this codeDWORD color = 0;
BOOL opaque = FALSE;
HRESULT hr = DwmGetColorizationColor(&color, &opaque);
if (SUCCEEDED(hr)) {return color} else {return 0}
My issue is that in the documentation it states:
>pcrColorization [out] A pointer to a value that, when this function returns successfully, receives the current color used for glass composition. The color format of the value is 0xAARRGGBB.
>The value pointed to by pcrColorization is in an 0xAARRGGBB format. Many Microsoft Win32 APIs, such as COLORREF, use a 0x00BBGGRR format. Be careful to assure that the intended colors are used.
The issue is that I need a COLORREF but I dont know how to convert it.
Any help?

Are you familiar with bitwise operations? Use those.
>>55012672
I have no idea what that is :/
I have never used C++ before and I am only using it to make a DLL for an application in another language. My programming knowledge is very limited.
SJW mods are in full damage control deleting Gawker bankruptcy threads.

Disk Fragmentation
is it a meme?
I use a defrag once every ~ 4months after I migrate about 500 GB from my local HDD to an external ext4 hard disk.
Is this a positive practice or just snake oil because ntfs is shit. I should have transformed the whole drive to ext format but I dual boot, even though I spend very little in windows, but I didn't have enough storage to migrate all the data on the drive when I first installed linux.
Defrag is not snake oil, but ntfs is indeed shit.

Is ReFS a thing yet, and does anyone actually use it on Windows Server?
How fucking long is it gonna take for Microsoft to replace NTFS someday?

they already anounced a new fs with windows longhorn 15 years ago. so i guess never since they have no good developers left.

Where does /g/ lease their domains from? I'm wondering if there are any cheaper services than the popular GoDaddy, 1 and 1, etc...
Are there any privacy concerns to be had about these services?

I flashed Cyanogen on 6p, did i fuck up ?
I cant really notice the difference, but people say that it's much better stock. I cant find any way of restoring it to factory setting though
Just buy a new one and be a bit more mindful of what you do with things that are not meant to be tempered with

http://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english
How do I get better at typing?
I currently type with two fingers and thumbs on the space bar, I don't need to look at the keyboard but I can't comfortably use my entire hand.
I never learned proper typing technique in school, and it's embarrassing having my gf type 2x faster than me.
Practice alone can increase your accuracy and speed regardless of if you use the proper hand/finger positions or not.
However, using proper positions will generally help more.

I don't get it, if you typed 94 words why does it say 98?
