>use shitty cheap MP3 earplugs for half a year because poorfag
>finally get a proper headset, a maxell hp6000
>it sounds weird as shit, overtly noisy and way less crisp than the previous one
>fiddle around with equalizer programs, becomes way better but still not good
What sort of equalizer settings do I need to unfuck this? Never did anything audio related before.
>earplugs
Stopped reading there tb.h
sound quality is a weird thing
like 5 years ago I had a cheap dumbphone that came with earphones, they had the best sound quality I've heard so far
then they broke and I haven't found anything as good since

Should have bought superlux at that price range.
Today the standard is black text on white background. We all know that displaying white on a monitor requires more energy than displaying black. Therefore, in our time of awareness it is only logical that we invert the colors. White text on black background is also easier on the eyes.
What does /g/ think? Has there been any calculations made on how much energy this would save on a global level?
So what you are saying is we need more white on black and less black on white?
>>55015362
Normalfags ruined green on black terminals, I don't want them to ruin white on black terminals also.
>have dark css for almost every website, but not google

If you're poor, just get a job. Or make a hackintosh, they're pretty easy to set-up now a days.
>>55015352
>OS X
>on low resolution with low scaling
The only poor person here is you my friend
>>55015352
The default keyboard layout is annoying (" and < are switched and instead of alt, it uses the key next to it to type symbols (@, #, etc))
But if that was fixed, i would happily continue using my hackintosh setup (which works pretty nice.)
>>55015405
How do the two compare these days?
As I understand it, Opera got gutted and basically became a glorified Chrome, and it alienated most of Opera's core userbase.
And Vivaldi seems to be an effort to bring back the features Opera's old users used to love.
Am I ronk, /g/?
nothing will bring presto back, sadly.
>>55015398
Wasn't Presto just the layout and rendering engine? I don't think *that* was what people missed, but the UI and other stuff that was part of Opera, like Notes, torrents, IRC, and "Opera Unite" (if anyone remembers that).
>>55015447
> Wasn't Presto just the layout and rendering engine?
Shit is still much faster today on old/legacy hardware. It was really efficient and capable engine.
>but the UI and other stuff that was part of Opera
With minimal css knowledge you can customize most parts of vivaldi to your liking
>Notes
they got it some versions ago, it's not as robust as it was back then.
>torrents
torrent-client was not needed in browser, imho. It can't even seed properly at the beginning, and if all you need is watch media - you can easily use peerflix for that (regardless of your browser) >IRC
Yeah, wasn't that great/usefull. Mail client on the other hand was perfect.
>"Opera Unite
Cloud without encryption is not needed in first place.
Hey /g/, /o/ here
as automotive technology advances, how dependent of software development will the car industry be?
Tesla as an example, has been able to increase the range and so on of their EV's with simple software updates, and as more manufacturers release more EV's, shouldn't the industry need more and more codemonkeys/compsci neets like us as time passes instead of mechanical engineers?
Or will the automotive industry always be dominated by mechanical engineers?
tl;dr - do you see software development becoming a bigger part in the automotive industry as EV's and technology advances?
thanks
>>55015218
>how dependent of software development will the car industry be?
It already is, you retard.
This is why technical boards are shit, no one knows anything.
>>55015218
>Tesla as an example, has been able to increase the range and so on of their EV's with simple software updates
I'm not sure that's exactly an accurate characterization. More like they've been able to cripple it with software you can pay to remove.
>>55015248
okay, i see
Could you go more in depth of what processes of developing a car involve software development, besides general car entertainment interfaces?
ECU mapping doesn't count either
no need to be so rude, anon
thanks
Not sure what I need/want to upgrade. Some people are telling me the graphics card is my problem, others say the CPU is holding me back.
Specs (pic related):
>Asus P8H77-M PRO/CM6870 Motherboard
>MSI GTX 970 GPU
>Intel Core i5 3450 CPU
>12GB DDR3 RAM
>EVGA 500w PSU
I do use two monitors (going to be same resolution soon). One is a 1920x1080, other is 1600x900.
Mostly play games that are CPU and GPU heavy respectively.
>Fallout 4
>Blade and Soul
>Guild Wars 2
>Warframe
>etc
What is my best option? I was thinking of going for an i5 6500 as it can be overclocked and I figure its good for playing games on one screen and watching a stream on the other. A few friends said they think its the GPU bottlenecking or something, which I can't understand how/why. What do you guys think?

Can you be more specific with your software of choice - are you talking about browser or some dedicated player?

Not a real programmer. How long would it take one of you professionals to make a game like stack or dropple on ios? Just curious, not looking for anything.
>professionals
>>55015009
I mean professionals being someone paid to do work, you know, its definition.
As a followup, what about apps like snapchat or whatsapp? Aside from setting up back end and funding for servers or whatever, how long would it take someone who was good at their job and had all of the guidelines to make it?

4 months. 2 weeks if it's a botched up POS
Why is ALSA being garbage right now?
Pulseaudio is even bigger garbage, at least with alsa I don't have a cracking mic input...
Ever since PulseAudio became the norm on popular distros like Ubuntu, nobody compiles their binaries for ALSA anymore thus shit breaks if you don't use PulseAudio
Example:

nvidia shield or amazon fire TV...which one?
im leaning toward the shield since it has usb3, and recently announced plex. just need to get a NAS now. any suggestions on those?
and in general discuss setups for cord-cutters.

rasp pi
>>55014876
elaborate? dist/libraries/peripherals used? i personally wouldnt get a pi for all this because i dont want to spend hours dicking around with it.
Nvidia shield is the shiznit. Very streamlined and simple to use.

did you try to open file location?
if you got an ssd maybe you can search the filename and hope it hasn't hidden itself somewhere : ^)
Why is there a major price gap in consoles and pcs? Consoles are capable of performing as modern desktops, yet they are locked down to only play games. A modern gaming PC however, at least $600?
The cost of having set up the console in such a way that it requires virtually no experience or foreknowledge to operate it.
If you're in the business of building computers for people, it's something to consider. People will pay a big premium on something that seems to handle itself.
>>55014690
They do it to stop piracy
I don't understand how is this even a fucking question? You can do an infinite ammount of things with a computer, it's not even comparable to a fucking console
was looking to buy a projector, came down to this here

vs
a used mitsubishi ew270u with only 100 hours on the light. costs 100 bucks used.
http://www.aboutprojectors.com/Mitsubishi-EX270U-projector.html
wanna use it for movies and maybe gaming. Which is better?
Stop looking at projectors under $600. They're complete dog shit and not worth it.

Mitsubishi EX270U DLP Projector absolutely curb stomps that white van chinese trash. Dont even think about getting the one at the top.

There's these strange things in my college. It's written on them "AMR repeater".
Could someone explain me what do they do ?
>>55014609
Sure, there's a really great page that explains everything quite well here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=RMA+Repeater
How were you able to find a picture of them online, but not an explanation of what it does?
>>55014609
