Fuck parents these days. When I have a kid of my own, they get an n64 and a gameboy advance. Fuck an iPad. Another thing, im teaching my child to use a computer. Im not going to let a school force msoffice down their throat for 5 years. Im teaching my kid how to use a dos machine, teaching them about the hardware, and.how to take it apart/put it back together. Then we'll move up to a newer version of windows. I'll teach them how the GUI works, and once my kid is completely familiar with how computers operate, then ill teach them how to code basic html/vb/c/python. Once they can code, and turn 15, they may have a tablet/smart phone. Untill then they can have a shitty tracphone. End of story.

Im being serious. I want my child to learn how a computer fundamentally works. Not learn to type an essay in ms word. That's easy shit. Not to say I wont introduce the to office tools, but I wouldn't be basing the entire curriculum off of them like some school districts do.

Fingerprinting is a new way of tracking you across websites.
It's being done right now by companies like Google.
Because unlike cookie based tracking you can't defeat it just by disabling cookies.
There is currently NO FOOLPROOF DEFENCE against fingerprinting (except quitting the Internet).

Google's privacy policy states
>Other technologies are used for similar purposes as a cookie on other platforms where cookies are not available or applicable
https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/key-terms/#toc-terms-cookie

ReCAPTCHA probably contains fingerprinting code:
https://archive.is/9K5gs
This means that the majority of 4chan users could be being fingerprinted, and Google might know about your shitposting habits even if cookies are disabled.

Google releases limited hangout of how much they know about you:
https://news.slashdot.org/story/16/06/29/2038257/googles-my-activity-reveals-how-much-it-knows-about-you
>Oh, they're just remembering what YouTube videos I watched, nothing creepy about that, I already knew they were doing it!
>I guess all those people who fear tracking really are just conspiracy theorists!

Daily reminder to do all your Amazon / eBay / LinkedIn / botnet shit in a completely separate browser to your Googling or buying shit.
It's currently the ONLY way to truly defend against fingerprint tracking.
Double points if you have each browser running in a different VM with a different OS.
Triple points if you have each browser's VM configured with a different VPN connection.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly GNU/Linux Thread. ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].

If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this puporse for safety purposes.
1) Use the Live ISO (if your distribution of choice has one) to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the GNU/Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the GNU/Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the GNU/Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with GNU/Linux.

Hey guys. Hope your day is going well. I was thinking about Librebooting my Thinkpad T400. I heard that after that I can't run Windows. Is that true? My main concern is can I run Windows 7 or 8.1 in a VM? I need to use Windows in Virtualbox for work.

Other things. Is it reversible? What tools do I need to do it? What privacy or security advantages does it offer?

I'm currently triple booting Windows 8.1, Ubuntu 16.04, and Android 6.0.1 if that helps.

Phantom 2 is decent. Don't fall into the latest trap. They're incredible commercial drones for easy integration. If you really want to learn, spend that money building and understanding your own. 3D printed frames are great and you can easily use community designs for mounting things like go pros. Highly recommend. Had no trouble in UK flying mine, stick to under 8Kg and you're golden.

Damn it. I have a 17 inch Envy lap top. It is updated to Windows 10. It will not play DVDs. I want to get a DVD app, but I keep getting mixed messages about all the available apps when I research them.

I am not looking to do anything complicated, I just want to watch DVDs on my laptop.
Which app should I use? All the apps I check out in the app store have terrible reviews.

What the hell is going on with the larger and larger laptops that are being marketed as "subnotebooks" now days? From the 90s up to the late 2000s subnotebook was used to describe smaller laptops with screens under 10". Now I regularly see "subnotebook" used to describe regular size laptops like Ultrabooks and Chromebooks with 13"-14" screens.
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I believe the term they use noe is "Ultraportable"

The use this term very loosely to describe thier paper-thin, low-spec, high-price laptops.
>>
>>55514978
What modern notebooks with similiar size to the one in the image are good?
>>
>>55514978
It means thinner/lighter/shittier laptops. Making things thinner doesn't really make them more portable though unless you're a manlet.

>>55515407
look into the pyra or the neo900 (don't think it's out yet)
You could also try getting a rpi and duct taping a screen onto it or a small tablet and bluetooth keyboard.

>At work
>Around 20 laptops get decommissioned (No, no thinkpads)
>Only thing that was done with them during decommissioning was taking out the hard drives and physically destroying them while everything else was left untouched
>Get permission from boss that I can keep one of the decommissioned laptops (they were going to be thrown away and recycled anyway)
>Take it home and turn it on
>BIOS password preventing from boot
>Inventory ID tag was ripped off so can't check who it belonged to in the system
>Service tag shows that laptop is out of warranty and HP support refuses to help me since company doesn't have HP out of warranty service or some shit like that

I know that you have to replace/reflash the BIOS chip, but should I even bother doing that or just throw it into the recycle bin at work? It's HP Compaq 6735B btw.

Wait, how do you even use this if you can't even boot into any OS or change BIOS settings

So the Sapphire Nitro is probably the one to go with now right? Especially since AMD already fixed the draw and improved performance.

I'm only picking it over the other models because of the easy-to-clean and replace fans.

there's gonna be a second model, maybe with 3 fans.
>>
>>55514949
Yes and the PCB will be different than the Reference so that should give you more assurance about the power draw thing thats not even an issue. What you're looking at is better cooling and better components with the Nitro.

In my uni degree there was a few, but in my opinion they were probably going to end up in project management rather that programming.

If it were a year ago I would say yes. However your money is better spent being saved for a 1070 or 1080.

Wait for Christmas time when supply will stabilize and the MSRP prices will be a little more actually used by retailers.

Besides, I doubt you actually have room in that case.
