Yep, chromes open a new instance every tab you have, even if you close one tab it can still left that instance running consuming memory in case you open another tab to load it faster. The reason Chrome is so fast is because it uses much more resources of your PC.

From my experience Firefox, Opera (Chromium reskin) and Chromium all consume similar amounts of RAM. Chrome probably eats more because botnet.

Can WebGL only render triangles?
If so, what approach should I use to determining which way I split quads into triangles?
Also, can you use multiple fragment and vertex shaders?
Lastly, I notice that some fragment shaders made for working without polygons can make some perfectly smooth objects. Would it be viable and sane to have models render with math opposed to geometry, using only a few polygons just for the sake of having their vertex shaders control that math?

Don't know about WebGL specifically but I tend to use ear clipping triangulation. Or delauney if I get fucked up models but it's slower.

Got my Fiit VR 2N and 8Bitdo
Unfortunately my Zenfone 5 doesn't have a gyroscope as Asus only put it in the Zenfone 6 and newer zenfones.
I don't have any games to test with the 8Bitdo yet but so far build quality on both of these are pretty good.
My Galaxy Note I N7000 has gyroscope though so I guess I'll be using that until I save up for a new phone.
Any must have VR apps?

Just getting started? Download a RTOS and run it in a VM. Make some software for it and then you can do that then move to actual hardware.

You could start with either Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black, both support linux based systems and are very power efficient, cheap and lightweight. I have used both, and all i can say is: Raspberry is more like a computer with some digital general purpose pins, it works very well with cameras(pi-cam makes the framerate very high) and USB peripherals, but has no analog converters and very little GPIOs. The Beaglebone Black on the other hand has 96 GPIOs, more than you'll need for amateur learning, and has analog converters, take make it easier to create your own sensors, also it has asynchronous control of the GPIOs (something called PRU) that takes the workload away from the main processor on the board.
Both support C,C++, Python or whatever compiler/interpreter you can install on linux systems.
