Because /v/ is leaking. Graphics card threads (expect for maybe the quadros or similar) belong on /v/ and that should be enforced.

I mean if you started threads saying which is better, Xbox or PlayStation it would probably be deleted. Why are graphics cards treated differently is beyond me.

ST is a nice effort towards debloating, but it doesn't play well with ncurses.

IMO the best balance between minimalism and solidity are urxvt.

how can engine devs exploit multi-GPU setups using the new graphics APIs? keeping in mind current hardware limitations such as

>pci-e to pci-e bandwidth/latency
>one cable between GPU and display
>discrepancies in performance even across identical models

are the following possible?

>buffering over multiple GPUs
>preloading scenes in unused vram for instant loading
>daisy chain rendering (eg gpu 1 does geometry/textures -> gpu 2 does shaders -> igpu draws UI -> done)
>one engine, multiple scenes (eg local hotseat)
>striping vram (8gb + 8gb = 16gb)

or we will still be stuck with shitty parallel rendering techniques that barely make it worthwhile?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>55520525
I'm hoping to see DP cables with even more and more bandwidth so that we can daisy chain GPUs and displays and enjoy contiguous video memory as well as indiscriminate rendering

In the end your computer would be one seamless pool of resources and your monitor setup just one big canvas as far as software is concerned

>framerate graphs being used as overall performance evidence even though the graphs become obsolete the moment a game update rolls out or a driver update rolls out (sometimes with significant performance changes)

>the inability of the users to understand or seek out education about the various components that make a GPU and how they work, and the inability to realize that every GPU varies in what it's good at computing, because some computing units on GPUs have specialized tasks and the overall frequency rate of a GPU ignores and doesn't represent the actual values that matter in terms of GPU computing power

>the obsession of gaymer class GPU users (GeForce/R-series) over single digit or two-digit framerate differences even though they don't have any impact on the gaymer's gayming skills, and are completely unnoticeable when a gaymer is too focused on gaymeplay to bother about the overall graphics
>the idea that a better GPU will make you a better gaymer

Why are gaymer class GPUs allowed to saturate /g/?
If not being contained to the respective shitposting board (/v/), why isn't there at least a rule being enforced by mods and admin which allows only one Gaymer Class GPU General Thread (everything except Quadro/FirePro) to be present on /g/ at any time?
/g/ always has an unusually sharp increase in tech illiterate threads filled with retardation whenever new GPUs of the gaymer class come out.

I do my research on GPUs. I know how they work. I also play video games, and having picked the right GPU, I can look at a pretty game. Whoever comes up with bullshit like "makes you a better gamer" is absolutely retarded, it just looks smoother/prettier.

Does anyone here use the Apple Battery Case for their iPhone 6?

Is it any good? I don't want to have to buy a portable charger, and having the charger on me at all times while not having to carry anything extra would be nice. Is the rear part that extends out very obtrusive?

Also, does my iOS version have to meet a certain requirement? I'm still on 8.4 because my phone's jailbroken. On the back of the box at the Apple Store it said that I need at least iOS 9 or something, but it doesn't say that on the website.

CHIP-9-Single-Board-Mini-PC[1].jpg

>Expected Delivery Day: Tuesday, July 12, 2016

Barring some unfortunate delays, I'm finally getting my $9 CHIP pc tomorrow.

Did you guys bother buying one of these? Do you have it already? Did it actually come with the composite video cable? I've been hearing mixed reports that some people who pre-ordered one last year got one for free, while the website says it's sold separately. Luckily for me, I actually own a 3.5mm video to composite video cable already so this isn't a concern.

I'm excited. I'm just genuinely curious to see how well this thing performs and how much stuff I can run at once before it bottlenecks. Though, I'm already totally aware that the meager 512MB DDR3 is damn restrictive. I'm going to shut off the desktop environment and control it over SSH to really bring down the load as much as I can.

Is there any point in buying X99 systems when a Z170 + 6700K can achieve 80% of the performance at a lower cost?

80%? Try 110%+.

Until you start using programs that can actually take advantage of more than four cores.

Has anybody tried the Hippon Handshoe mouse?
I have carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand from bad mouse use. I currently use a trackball, which has helped a lot, but I miss the precision of a regular mouse, so I was looking at ergonomic mouse designs. The Handshoe seems really nice - especially since I have quite long fingers, and at the moment any mouse I've tried, my pinky and ring finger will be clenched awkwardly on the side of the mouse, or resting on the table, which sucks as soon as you start moving the mouse.

if a normal mouse gives you RSI, "ergonomic" mouses (mice?) will still give you RSI. Fix your seating/desk arrangement before getting a new mouse, because you're probably doing something wrong that a mouse won't fix. Also, the best ergonomic mice for reduced wrist strain/RSI are the vertical kind.

Seems like you'd have to constantly clench that mouse - which seems bad. I just want a mouse where I can totally rest my hand on it, without having to apply any sort of force to keep my hand in position.

And I already have fixed my seating and desk arrangement etc. And it's still jarring how quickly I get pains in my hand when using a mouse where I have to hold it claw-like, and move it at the same time. Especially when using the scroll wheel. For me, it seems my pains are largely related with constantly straining my mouse hand - when I use my trackball can just let it rest and I have no issues even after 12+ hours of constant use. But with my previous Sensei Raw mouse (I had to use it for an evening cause I forgot my trackball at work), it only took about 30 minutes before I started having pains again, regardless of posture etc.
