People use GNU/Linux because:
>It's lightweight;
>It's free;
>It's safer.

Running it inside windows defeats the purpose.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Why doesnt a manufacturer bring a shitty low spec laptop with killer battery to market under the selling point of ridiculously long battery life between charges?

Honestly ... yeah... Macs came close but since fucked that up, also they were pretty expensive.

but like imagine something like an i3 with half the mAhs of a gaming laptop battery

define shitty and low spec
>>
Maybe there would only minimal improvement in battery life. I think the battery technology just isn't quite there. And when it is we'll probably just have normal laptops with great battery life

do these things matter?

saw a bunch of articles saying all of them are the same, blah blah

saw glowing reviews on more expensive hdmi cables saying what big difference they made

seems like in the past they didn't matter, but for 4k and newer things, it makes a difference, right/wrong?

usually any chink shit cable will work fine.

There can, however be a difference at high resolutions or long cable runs that a better-quality cable could help.

there is never any call for $79.95 triple-gold-plated Monster Cable ripoff shit though. Plenty of places are willing to shill things like this in exchange for kickbacks, which is why you see it. Buy a chink shit cable. If it works, great, you're done. If it doesn't, try a non-chink-shit-but-not-terribly-expensive-either cable. If that doesn't work, then you have some problem deeper than a dodgy cable.

>>59707032

If the signal gets through, it gets through intact. These aren't analog cables fampai.

There any other "semi custom" case options out there besides Caselabs? I was going to buy a used Merlin case that was a bit of drive from me used but when I saw close ups I decided otherwise. I'm not satisfied with the quality for the money and forget the price new for what you get. Seems to be extremely over hyped by the inept and I just assumed Caselabs wasn't just Lain li quality with a bigger price tag.

Lian Li has the same Chinese slave labor as anyone else. Misaligned panels and front panels, cheap rivets everywhere, rats nest cabling.

There are no "semi-custom" cabinet makers. Not even caselabs. They just spray their cases in cheap paint. Instead of proper powder coats or metals.

Search for "custom pc case painting". You'll get a ton of hits, and then see why you should do it yourself.
>>
>>59706898

I was more surprised about the fasteners used and how it goes together. The way Caselabs is jerked off on forums and youtube I figured they used some like captive pins or something to make the modular panels they advertise easy to go on and off. Nope just screws threaded into aluminium with no thread inserts and some hex nuts of questionable origin.

The thing is Lian Li quality or just under. And for the Merlin case the way I want it set up they'll charge me $600 for it.
>>
>>59706898
Caselabs make their cases in Southern California
Lian Li's main factory is in Taiwan
Both use low volume production methods (laser cutting, NCT, press brakes), which often aren't as consistent as mass-manufactured stamped cases.
