can somebody explain to a tech retard how ethreum works and how to buy it ? if it seems profitable i'm willing to drop 1,2 k in it
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Ethereum is a cryptocurrency as a Bitcoin.
You can buy it from Coinbase.
You can buy it from someone.
Go with Coinbase, start an account, and get verified (2 days tops), you have to send them $1 or something to get bank account verified.
Then you transfer money to Coinbase again (1 day?) and you can buy Ethereum.

In the meantime go to their website and download a wallet, don't keep coins online and don't forget your password!!!

When you have Ethereum on your disk, just forget about it, and sell it in a year or five.

Hello Anons!

I just want to give you all a brief overview on the difference between IPOs and ICOs. I feel like I'm in a position in which I can understand the difference between the two, I am the CTO of a biotech company currently seeking funds through a series A.
First and foremost: ICOs ARE NOT LIKE IPOs. A better comparison to make is comparing ICOs to angel investments.

Here's the reason:
IPOs are offered to the public AFTER a product has been made and profit has begun to be generated. IPOs are product based and profit driven.
ICOs, on the other hand, are more like angel investments. In most cases, ICOs consist of developers stating what they WILL do, not what they have ALREADY done. Therefore, when you purchase into an ICO, you are purchasing into an idea not yet formed into a product. Inherently, it is much more risky to do this, however, with risk comes reward. But this is just a PSA for those of you who quickly associate ICOs with IPOs when in reality ICOs are more like angel investments which are extremely risky but have the potential to pay off 100s of times more.

>inb4 whogivesafuck lets make money XD
Yea, most people are making lots of money right now. But this is for people who won't understand why 99% of the ICOs they purchased into are worthless within 3 years

I just started with crypto this week and I'm trying to get up to speed with things.

I have a massive student loan I want to pay off. (+100K) I got into grad school and shit but my first job didn't even cover interest after monthly expenses. I have a little more cash now so I'm trying to make some returns.

If I can pay off my student loan, I'm done. What about you biz? What drives you?

I won't even bother naming the damn thing because at this point in time 1) nobody will listen, 2) people will become accusatory, and 3) there are probably several of these in circulation right now t b h.

Here's the thing. You have to look way ahead into mass adoption by people who are not /g/ or /biz/ in the slightest. Think about what XYZ random people from your English class would be likely to understand and appreciate.

Currency is the answer to that question. Something they already understand.

Programmable apps and niche uses of cutting edge technology are really cool - and indeed can be lucrative - do not get me wrong, but those are not the things that will lead us into mass adoption, investment, gains, and success.

Culture and geography and things like that are important to consider as well.

I would like to put some money into a very early coins that might some day moon.
Start with 200 different shitcoins that are new to the market and costs nothing, so I can buy them by tens of thousands for couple bucks.

What would be a process to start such search?
PAC coin for example:
100 000PAC - 0.001BTC

Example of someone buying 1 000 000 ARK before it was cool:

I finally got around to actually reading up on crypto currency, making a wallet, and putting a little money into it.

>he's too late
>fell for the meme
>FUCKING ETHHHHHH
>NIG NOG COINZ

I made an account with Coinbase and have been doing shit through that because it seemed simple, easy and trustworthy; but as I've been doing my reading I feel like I've been getting more and more jipped.

The whole idea of a cryptocurrency is that it's decentralised, that you can do what you want with your money, your communication is p2p with you and whoever you're making a transaction with.

However, Coinbase required proof of identity, and all this extra shit before I could even just get my hands on some currency. It made sense, with all the shifty shit that goes on within crypto currency; just trying to cover their asses I guess.

But they've imposed a fucking limit on my trading, I can only put in $300 a week? That means it'll take me roughly 3 months just to get my hands on one BTC, and who knows what would've happened to the price since then?

I have money just sitting in a bank account and I'd like to move a little of it into BTC; not because I think of it as an investment opportunity (although it would be nice). Purely because I have more trust in a P2P type monetary system compared to a Slave-Master monetary system that the banks (muh sigz guriilian) have got going on now.

Is there anyway to fuck this limit off? Or just go through a seperate, trusted, service and make my transaction, without a limit, into that same BTC wallet? Have I fucked up?

Also, let's get some general discussion about holding money in BTC. Good idea, bad idea? Advantages, disadvantages? Are we guaranteed the value will hold? Is it a better guarantee than any current conventional bank? What major factors are influencing the BTC value? Supply, demand, general curiosity/popularity, vested interest, blind speculation?

>>2423273
About the $300 limit, are you talking about Instant purchases or the bank transfers that take 3-4 days for your btc to arrive?

In my experience it isn't that hard to increase your limits.
>>
>>2423361
Ahhhhh, that makes sense. I think it's because it's coming straight from a debit card (which has a limit itself), and not a 3-4 day actual bank transfer. I'll add another payment method now; cheers.

What are your thoughts on BTC's demand? Do you feel like it's only going to go up and up as more people are exposed to it? Do you think governments might step in and legislate against BTC in an effort to protect fiat?
>>
>>2423361
Just realised they only accept credit/debit cards as a payment method for Australians so I guess I'm stuck with that $300 limit?

Let's stop the memes for a moment and have a serious discussion here.

If you don't care about losing all of your crypto investments because you're having fun and this is just a way to play around with your money and post memes, like gambling at a casino, then skip past this thread because it's irrelevant to you

But if you're trying to actually make money, then at some point you're going to have to sell. You need an exit strategy. This doesn't necessarily mean selling everything, but it means one of:

-Securing your initial investment back in fiat, then the rest of your crypto is pure gains (selling the amount you put in)
-Securing your initial investment back in fiat, plus some profit, then the rest of your crypto is pure gains (selling the amount you put in, plus some profit you're taking)
-Securing your entire investment and gains back in fiat (selling everything)

The final option is:
-Keeping it all in crypto because you think crypto is more valuable then fiat. If you believe this, skip this thread

For people taking the initial three options, the important question to ask yourself is: when are you going to sell your allotted amount? There are 2 options:

-Selling your allotted cashout amount incrementally
-Selling your allotted cashout amount all at once
17 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2423119
If you sell it all at once you may miss out on gains. If you sell it incrementally you may not sell early enough and the falling knife will hit your foot

And two more options

-Selling right now
-Selling at some point in the future

If you're selling right now, great, go do it. If you're selling at some point in the future, then you are the person who this thread is specifically targetted at. You have to decide WHEN. Now, when you're not emotionally staring at that 100x profit and thinking "FUCK will it go to 200x?"

You have to decide now. Or you will fuck up. Real traders, real stock traders working at firms, don't go with the flow and figure it out as things happen. They have a plan that they follow, period, even if their gut tells them otherwise. You have to do this too

Are you selling at 2x profit? Make sure to do it. Are you selling when the coin is $x? Make sure to do it. Don't get greedy. Well, get greedy, but don't let it control your logical, well thought out plan that you made far ahead of time.

Have a fucking exit strategy or you may be boarding the Challenger

Furthermore, some of you are engaged in selfish and greedy delusions - thinking this will go on forever. Haha, it won't.

I've heard of people spending their student loans on crypto. If you can't afford to lose it all, don't invest it. This can pop at any time. If you bought in super early you're probably safe, but you may also be disappointed making 2x gains instead of the 10x you're currently observing. And that bad feeling when you only make $5k instead of that $20k profit you saw in your blockfolio can be just as bad as losing money.

tl;dr
You haven't made anything until you sell, period. You're not 10k up, you're not 20k up, you haven't doubled your money. Until you sell.
>>
>>2423121
How to formulate this plan? I mean are there any resources I can read/watch about how greedy is too greedy, because I think that's what I'm being atm.
>>
>>2423119
What I've been doing is just setting a stop loss order 25% below market value. If it does dip, I'm still getting amazing gains, but so far, the dips haven'ttriggered a sell
