He was talking about the womens revolution movement in general, but he used Lucha Underground as a great example. For people who dont know, women in Lucha Underground regularly beat up men and hold major world titles.
> Meltzer: "I know women don't watch the show. Which is funny because the whole thing is empowerment of women and blahblahblah and like there has never been a wrestling show that has fewer women viewers than Lucha Underground. Which is the one where the women can beat the men but the women don't watch that."
>>1967958
To be fair, NOBODY watches LU. Didn't the last episode get like 80k viewers?
>>1967958
People don't give a shit about women's wrestling.
In other news the sky is fucking blue.
He's right, but also stating the obvious. Womens wrestling is not a draw, it has never been a draw, and it will never be a draw. Thats why this whole female revoloution in WWE is the dumbest shit ever. It hasnt bought any new viewers in, and it never will.
I'm a rasslin guy so I'm asking for it here, but I think it has to be said. Though it may have been said before.
I think the Attitude Era, the most remembered era in Wrestling history.....fucked up Wrestling big time. Yep I'm saying this about an era that had high ratings. Well...until it didn't.
The era did something just awful. Russo did something just awful. He created a product where the actual Wrestling didn't matter. Watch an episode of RAW IS WAR, how many matches end in DQ? How many have interference?
We remember all the great stories and characters. How many storylines were actually that good? How many characters went on to be great long term?
There was 2 or 3 great feuds that had good drama around it. Nothing in 98 or most of 99 stacked up to Vince vs Austin. In fact by the end of that feud half the roster was involved in that feud in one form or other. The storyline that brought in the ratings was between a dude and his boss, not between two Wrestlers.
I'll tell you one fact. All those great storylines ended in some of the worst matches of that Wrestling era. Most of those storylines were shit and most of the matches had "Boring" chants.
The success of this era created a mindset. The success of this era created an idea that has effected Wrestling to this day. It created a perception that Wrestling doesn't matter. It's the soap opera. It's the storylines. IT's those stupid badly scripted 20 minute segments that open every show.
Why does WWE suck today? Because it still trys to capture the same formula it did then. Only now their are 50 writers and talent who are controlled in everything they do. Can't tell anyone this though. To the new majority all Vince has to do is mix the formula just as he did then and everything would be okay.
(contd)
The Attitude era created a generation of fans who never got to see or appreciate the NWA or WCW when it was good. A generation who never knew what it was like to enjoy a match to enjoy a match. To get into a feud over a title or a grudge just to see the climax between two greats. Nitro had storylines. Nitro had the NWO all over the place, but it also had Wrestling, and a lot of it. I have this theory that one reason why nobody ever saw how little value WWF Wrestling had during the era is because all they had to do was switch the channel and they'd get that. RAW was the actual genuine day time soap that found a spark in Austin vs Vince, while Nitro was the more old school Wrestling program.
These are the people who love to say one of the most dumbest fucking things ever, "Why would you watch Wrestling to watch fake Wrestling?"
In reality it should be the other way around, "Why would you watch Pro-Wrestling and not like the Pro-Wrestling?"
The Attitude era was short term fix that's long term effects have caused the perception of Wrestling to be perceived as it is today.
Let me close in saying that I drunk the Kool-aid. Hell I watched a few episodes of RAW is WAR a year ago, and enjoyed it. Well I enjoyed the Austin segments. Which is usually all it was, segments. Can't say there was much Wrestling.
It's odd to be looked as in the minority for something that for 80 something years was the majority. IT wasn't like the Flair vs Steamboat feud had some of the best drama ever, but it lead to some of the most remembered "WRESTLING MATCHES."
here's a bold proposition: what if the wwe is as badly mismanaged then as it is now and the difference was the critical mass of enthusiastic fans
like they were putting on a good show in spite of themselves

WWE SmackDown Live Women's Champion Becky Lynch was recently part of a media scrum to promote the WWE's European Tour. You can check out some of the highlights from the scrum below, courtesy of Planeta Wrestling:
The difference between the European crowd and the American crowds:
> "I think the European crowd are the greatest ever, though one could say they are less exposed to us, so we become more of a novelty when we come in. The American crowds are good too, they're very enthusiastic, but because we are over here less often they go insane. Speaking from a European standpoint, I'm European, I feel that vibe and it's like home. From my family. And it's awesome, it's amazing."
How difficult it was to split up the Four Horsewomen after the Brand Extension:
> "In the beginning that was really hard, I think Zack (Ryder) might have seen me cry, there was a moment when me and Charlotte were hugging each other 'I'm gonna miss you.'
> It's hard in some ways, but in other ways it's great as well because the girls on SmackDown are amazing. We've got a great division, everybody is really hard working and enthusiastic, has the same goal, we all work together, and I get to see my friends on RAW killing it so that drives up competition. You wanna do better than them."
What her dream match is:
> "Lita would be one just because when I was growing up she was the one that I could relate to her, she's the one that -- I could be like that, you know? She's cook, she's a tomboy, but Jazz was one of my favorite wrestlers because she's amazing. And she's got incredible shoulders. That's just the reason I want to face her, so we could have a good deltoid-off (chuckles). Yeah, Jazz or Lita. Lita first then Jazz. First and second."
>>1967935
They definitely did
> "In the beginning that was really hard, I think Zack (Ryder) might have seen me cry, there was a moment when me and Charlotte were hugging each other 'I'm gonna miss you.'
This is so sad. Why did the idiots at WWE do this to Becky?

I hope they bury Ryder for this
YOU SEE, FINN...
YOU SEE, STEPHANIE...
YOU SEE, KURT...
>>1967892
Steph wasn't in the spotlight yet when Macho was WWF ya dope
Why is WWE refusing to finally decide on a few wrestlers (the crowd actually likes) and make them the top guys and maineventer on PPVs? Its like they cant leave part timers alone and always rely on old guys that are way past their time, come once a year, have a mediocre as fuck match and leave after that. Doesnt help that they keep burying wrestlers with potential for this bullshit.
Because apart from Cena, no one has gotten over for years.
Being over with smarks doesn't count.
>>1967867
Because Vince is a senile old narcissist who genuinely believes he can't be wrong and because Hogan, Bishoff, Nash, and Russo (the real four horsemen right there) killed WWE's only potentially serious competition, goddamn TWICE.
>>1967870
>nobody has gotten over except one of the strongest-booked guys in the history of the company
>nobody has gotten over except one of the last guys to get over with his own gimmick instead of a mandated one

>Goldberg confirmed to NBC Sports that he suffered an injury during the brawl that ended Monday Night Raw this week, as the former WCW champion fought off several “security guards” in order to clear the ring for a Lesnar confrontation. Needless to say, Goldberg isn’t exactly feeling great.
>“My body feels horrible. I tweaked my shoulder last night (on Raw),” Goldberg said. “But that doesn’t mean in five days that I’m not going to come out kicking ass and taking names like I always do.”
How much of a shitshow is this match going to be?
With jews you lose. There's going to be 2 jews in that match (Greenberg in the ring and Heyman accompanying Bork). It's already over
