Having multiple names for countries in different languages is stupid.

Good thing Japan was discovered when people didn't have the desire to invent different names for their cities in every language.

Is manga so popular in Japan because nihongo is actually a terrible language and relies way too heavily on context, therefore necessitating images in their stories?

Google translate on PC has the little drawing function that works great, but then I have to use Rikai to get a decent definition, which is no problem on PC where you can copy and paste, but tablets are complete ass at anything useful.

Have HAD friends. People who are here because they're too autistic to make friends are pathetic, because deep down you all just wish you were normies. The man who has had it all and forsaken it is far better than the man who hasn't had it and pretends he doesn't want it.

Best sites for older radios are youtube and niconico. Just search the anime name + radio in Japanese. View count on niconico is a good way to judge how funny the radio is.
For running radios
http://hibiki-radio.jp/
http://www.onsen.ag/ <- you'll need a proxy for this site
You can only listen to the most recent episode on these sites.
Also, newer radios that were streamed on i.e. Onsen get taken down on niconico, so search on youtube if you want to listen to older episodes.
Some can be impossible to find though.

By the way, I personally very much enjoyed the Nanatsu no Taizai radio (i.e. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kD1uIq-7hZk)
The K radio was also hilarious.
Though it's probably best to choose the a radio by some seiyuu you like, if you have anyone.

you can finish core6k in 120 days, friend- or even 60 days if youre very ambitious.
>>
>>147007241
And you can also mine in those days and get better results.
>>
>>147007241
120 days is a huge amount of time, it would be much more efficient to just spend like a month doing 1k core words and then start mining for the rest of the time, there's really no benefit to doing 6000 core words when you could just mine 6000 words that you've actually encountered yourself instead
>>
>>147007306
>>147007367
your learning curve is busted, sticking to core- the order of vocab that come up is intended for better retention, by recurring radicals/similar looking kanji.
and I think itd take longer to mine 6k words than to be given 6k words
>>
>>147007654
The core order is pretty retarded, they don't tend to be ordered in terms of how common they are, and having words that use the same kanji all in a row like with the 上 and 下 verb shit actually makes it much harder to differentiate between them

>and I think itd take longer to mine 6k words than to be given 6k words
It would take longer but you'd actually be reading the entire time in order to mine the cards so your Japanese ability would be much higher
>>
>>147007750
alright anon you win this time...
i guess ill start mining now
>>
>>147007750
I don't know about you, but my core was relatively ordered by commonness, with shit like numbers at the start.
And people are supposed to always read anways.
>>
>>147007750
How would that make it harder? Part of the advantage of putting different words with the same kanji together is that it allows you to grasp the patterns of noun/transitive/intransitive forms much quicker, and allows you to develop a more accurate understanding of what the kanji actually means which in turn helps your guesses of later words containing it.
>>
>>147008190
It is beneficial doing that sometimes, if it's just like two or three words and they're all different enough to tell the difference, but when you have shit like 下りる 下がる 下げる 下る 下ろす etc all in a row like you have in core, the chances of someone actually remembering anything more than "下 verb mean going down kinda" is pretty slim

Even shit like 階段 and 段階, if you see them in quick succession it's much harder to differentiate them because they're so easy to muddle up in your head, if you were to encounter them both at completely different times while reading you'd have a lot less trouble remembering them, same as with 下 verbs
>>
>>147004448
I live in Japan and still use 私.

My wife flat out said that men who use 私 sound the coolest because they aren't trying to act cool or anything. They're confident enough in themselves and tend to speak very properly. She said it was one of the reasons why she ended up dating me when we first met, especially after she found out that I use it on purpose and not because I'm a beginner at the language.
>>
>>147008426

Can't agree with that. I always need to compare words as similar as this to remember correctly which is which. Learning them at the same time helps since I'll know that this word has another word that looks almost like it.

>>147008381
>Even shit like 階段 and 段階, if you see them in quick succession it's much harder to differentiate them because they're so easy to muddle up in your head

It's not harder, it just seems that way because you are getting the muddling up over and done with before it matters. If someone were to see one of those words without knowing about the other they might not bother to memorise the order, or they might forget the order more easily, and then they would be almost guaranteed to get the other one wrong when they saw it.

>>
>>147008381
think if I saw 階段 for the first time and 段階 for the first time a couple of days after, I would think they were the same word. the confusion is inevitable, but having them appear in succession in core allows you to make some mnemonic to differentiate them early. you might never notice youve made the confusion until months after

What do you do if you're having a casual conversation and the other person is using a different politeness level than you? Let's say you're using 私/their name and they're using 僕/君. Do you switch to their level to avoid sounding too formal (or too casual), or does that come across as too unnatural?
>>

You do realize you sound like a gigantic autist when talking like that, right? Casual and formal language exist for a reason, being unable or unwilling to differentiate between them signals being unfit for social interaction. I don't know why you are keeping this up. Either you are being intellectual dishonest or legitimately don't understand how to use Anki. You're not supposed to try and memorise those example sentences, or which there is one for each card within the Core deck/s. They are for reference.

Not using the material as it was created is a user problem. So either the user in this instance is entirely clueless, as your position outlines, or you are dishonestly misrepresenting the average user. I have more confidence in the intelligence of anons and assume they are capable of doing basic research on how to use Anki and the source material for which they are studying, hence why I considered your position to be a dishonest misrepresentation. However it now seems more as though you are projecting your own incompetence as though it were the standard.

Here, a few seconds using a search engine:
Anki manual:-
http://ankisrs.net/docs/manual.html
Core vocab source:-
http://iknow.jp/content/japanese

Now you know how you are doing it wrong and why your original arugment is based on a completely misguided understanding of both Anki and of the Core Japanese vocabulary decks.

Just start watching while you can't understand shit. SoL or something would be best.
You'll be able to understand some from the context, and learn more words automatically that way, especially if you're a typical /a/ user, as in, already watched thousands of anime and know at least some of the most basic words since you hear them every day.

Learning new words and phrases through exposure is the way one should learn a language, if they have the time to do it. Of course, while studying other stuff, but it'll still help a lot.
>>
>>147021889
Except unlike with books/manga/VNs there's no long-winded narration and it's all dialogues which are usually much easier, unless you watch some hardcore chuuni shit or subtle Japanese puns comedy.

You could read through the manga of the anime first, learning the unknown words within that. That's what I've found myself doing these days, mainly due to disabling the subtitle render in the media player I use and being too lazy to set it back up.
It's also pretty enjoyable to watch something and basically be able to understand everything due to the adaptation, with the added bonus of picking up pronunciation as well as noticing script differences.

Windows is shit in general when it comes to font rendering, even worse when it comes to Japanese.

>What are some good fonts to download
A lot of people like these fonts:
http://mplus-fonts.osdn.jp/webfonts/general-j/

>and how do I give them priority?
Depends entirely on your browser, as the browser handles font rendering differently to the rest of Windows, generally speaking.

What do you mean, from the CoR?
There is nothing stopping anyone else from uploading things. Upload something somewhere and post the link to it in feedback. That's how the everything that wasn't personally added by cor-kun originally ended up there.

>can I use that as an alternative for tae kim?
As in for an introduction to grammar? I guess you could but it would be rather difficult as isn't an introductory grammar guide like Tae Kim or Japanese: The Manga Way.

Yes: see them so many fucking times in comprehensive situations that they become familiar enough that you can tell without thinking about it. It's the only way you're going to get used to an entirely different script to what you are used to.

>Stroke order is important.
Of which is entirely irrelevant for beginners reading kana and it sure as fuck isn't how we got use to ソンシツ. You can write those kana with entirely different stroke order and still have them look the same and you can write them in normal stroke order and have them look wrong.
