So, I'm the "Miniatures and Wargaming Rep" for my LGS. I've got experience in Oldhammer, Sigmar, Warmahordes, and KoW. Our recent resurgence in 40k players has aimed my attention towards building a force for quasi-competitive play through the store.
I'm married and my wife is already cautious about my miniatures collection, so I'm deciding to go the route of Deathwatch, as the 'elite' models run a higher points cost and are more easily... Uh... Justifiable in my home.
That being said: What are some tips you would give a new player? What DW list would you build? What's your favorite unit/model?
I have a list in mind, based off conversations with some of our regulars, but input from non-bias sources are always great.

Sounds like a fucking fun normie you got there.

1HP you fuckin' numbskull.
1: Get a dozen Moo Cows
2: Put onto said Moo Cows some chainmail and specially made helmets with spikes on them.
3: Point said Moo Cows
4: Stick some ginger up their butts
5: Sit back and watch as the Moo Cows stomp the enemy into paste beneath their hooves.

Cows won't charge into a hedge of likes anymore then horses do.

Alright guys, in about ten minutes you are going to go out of this trench and charge the orks. I know it sucks and a fair number of you guys are going to die, but the Imperial Guard is here to protect the twenty thousand people working in that agricultural processing facility, to keep it's grox meat out of their grubby green hands so that they can't eat and go on to kill more guardsmen and civies. It's also your duty to Humanity and the Imperium. Now get your butts in gear so I don't have to do that part of my duty that I really hate having to do.

FOR CHAOS!
Do you have any anthromorphic races in your world, fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls?
If so, what do they eat? Do carnivores eat other "lesser" animals?
>>52005407
In my settings, "animal-men" are treated as separate entities than their animal basis. As such, normal animals are everywhere, and people eat what is convenient.
Humans eat monkeys and apes in some parts of the world. It isn't hugely common, but that might just be because other primates aren't hugely common.
>>52005407
They would eat what is necessary for their bodies to function, and isn't poisonous.
You'd probably want to backwardly engineer some details to work out what their diet is, i.e look at the teeth and jaws of your anthromorphic race, or compare them to similar animals. Sometimes it might get weird, like if you have an avian race that has a huge finch type beak implying that somewhere there are huge melon-sized seeds that needed cracking open. I guess that could work, maybe they eat coconuts or something.
>>52005461
What this anon said, plus that a diet based on high protein and lipid intake, iron, and some specific vitamins, is essential for developing brains similar to human ones, what you will recognize is needed for a similar level of sapience.
You could say that aliens and other uplifited animal could have different diets and develop the same level of nervous systems, but I would remember you that we don't have specific scientific evidence for that, although you could always point to fantasy, but them the point is moot.

So, which of the B-list classes of 3.5 and 4e should be introduced to 5e?
>>52005286
Lets talk houserules. Current ideas:
-Thrown weapons can be drawn as ammunition.
-A hand holding a spellcasting focus can be used for somatic components, even if the spell doesn't require a focus.
-Berserker barbarians recover one level of exhaustion per short rest.
-Dice that don't land on your playing surface are treated as having the worst possible roll (so if you reroll ones and two's, it counts as a three.) (Possibly too harsh? Enforced rerolls no matter what it landed on seems better.)
>>52005426
Most of those should probably be archetypes. Aside from psionic classes, they're not really different enough to be standalone (duskblade is some flavor of either EK or Bladesinger, for example). That said, I'd love a class styled after the 4e Ardent; lead from the front, granting healing and temp HP to your allies as you lay into enemies. Maybe I should work on this.

>gets published due to the equivalent of an internet argument about the quality of a fiction magazine

I have a group of college friends. 7 in total 1 grill. One dude has BO. Its so bad after an hour you just have to open the fucking door to vent. What do? Hes just fat and wears the same shit everyday.
>>52003924
Ask him to shower more often and change clothes and wear perfume (doesn't have to be strong just antiperspirant)
Alternatively if you are afraid to bring it up since it's a sensitive subject then do what i do and shower always before a session and perfume yourself enough that you won't notice him and sit the furthest away. It's a wonderful hobby that is sadly shared by hygienic slobs.
>>52003924
tell him that he needs to take a damn shower and wear some fucking deodorant. that's it... if he gets pissy let him, but it needs to be said for the good of the group.

No wonder they placed Goregantz the Breaker at the door. Bitches face is running defense tonight.
Why is 30kTT sooo much better than 40k? Even the player base is better, much more chill, banter without literally crying and of course less autism.

How do we fix magic users /tg/?
On the one hand,
>having a set list of spells is stupid and unnecessarily restrictive
>takes away from the wonder and mystery of magic
>turns players into loophole hunters
On the other hand,
>letting people cast what they want might be unbalanced
I'm really torn here
What about a biuld your own spell system?
Maybe because its not easy to make a better system without being digital. you can convert pretty much all spells to a manacost, and make extra spell slots essentially like getting a better feeling for the flow of the mana.
>>52002775
Another important distinction is whether all PCs are casters or not, as this affects balancing. Check out Ars Magica and/or Mage: The Awakening/Ascension. Both feature very flexible casting systems, but it would be nigh impossible for a non-caster to be built in an equivalent manner. If you're balancing casters against non-casters, then they really ought to have equivalent limitations. Can't have one PC with potentially infinite options and the others stuck with finite ones.

Depends on the combo. The more retarded classes you pile on, the more snowflakey it gets. Being a Fighter/Thief or Fighter/Mage or the like won't generate a blink, but being Mage/Cockomancer/Master of the Twin Balls/ArchFaggot will earn you nothing but scorn.
