What are some games that do mythical settings well? I want to play a game where characters encounter low-key supernatural things, often interacting with mythical beings. Perhaps they even acquire some powers themselves.

I do not want over-the-top magic like typical modern fantasy.

Examples of this would be Saga of the Volsungs, or Midsummer Night's Dream.

There's a world of difference between the examples I gave and something like Forgotten Realms books - the former are definitely low-key in comparison.

In Saga of the Volsungs, the characters often meet Odin and Sigurd gains a magic wolf skin that allows him to transform into a wolf. It meets all three criteria:

>low-key relative to a lot of modern fantasy fiction
>characters interact with Odin, a mythical being
>characters acquire magic items or powers

What's the problem?
>>

>What's the problem?

You're posting on 4chan and expecting replies to not be shit.

That aside, I wish I could help you. I'd love a game that did this well. I think that a lot of it, though, would probably be more in the hands of the GM than the game because like the anon who replied to you demonstrates the three criteria you pointed out do overlap with stuff like Forgotten Realms books which are, I think, fairly tame compared to fantasy coming out now.

The average FR novel protag is a lot less Sue-ish than fucking Eragon, after all.

You only get to play your legion with 1 termie squad, 1 of your RoWs, no equipment or special characters edition.
Joe Meltface is a perfectly respectable and trustworthy phosphex vendor subedition.

Chaos is worst stepdad and only a fool would think otherwise. TSons may or may not need nerfs and Valdor is not a Custodian, but a preternaturally skilled, inviolable, regular joe that's part of a solidarity. Anons speculated on alternate heresy methods and Morty and Perty are merging into Autismo. Threadus Penultimatus here: >>52004504

Jumpers!

Do you ever wear clothing/armor radically out of the norm for the setting? Classic armor in a modern setting? A hoodie or tactical armor in medieval setting?

Yes, all the time. But I usually wear glamours over it.

Through magic, a knight, a samurai and viking faction are teleported into a fantasy setting.

One hundred years later.

How would the factions influence each other? (Warfare, culture, etc.) And would all factions use plate-armour?
63 posts and 15 images submitted.

Yes, everyone would use the best, most protective armor. Only reasons that samurai used wooden and paper armor is because they had not very much shit iron. With good steel they'd probably lean more knightly.

Late medieval plate harnesses are the final word in battlefield armour until guns are applied.

>a group of Space Marines are fighting some orks in a city the orks have all but destroyed
>outnumbered, have to apply careful strategy
>group of Marines given orders to enter buildings on either side of a street and wait for orks to come by, then come out and attack from behind while the main force is in front, forcing the orks to fight on two fronts
>while inside, one of them finds a baby, 7-8 months old, whose parents are clearly dead

1. Suppose the baby cries, threatening to give away the Space Marine's position. Does he murder the child to avoid detection?

2. Suppose things are fine and the baby survives. After the fight, if there is time, does he go back for it? Does he just assume someone will find it? Is he likely to even care?

I realize that despite their discipline, Space Marines aren't a hivemind, and it will depend both on the chapter and the individual Marine. Let's assume "average," but also feel free to discuss the range of likely outcomes.

Yes, Space Marines are typically utilitarians and regard their own lives and especially the success of their mission as the most important things.

>2. Suppose things are fine and the baby survives. After the fight, if there is time, does he go back for it? Does he just assume someone will find it? Is he likely to even care?

If there are human authorities that are taking care of civilians nearby, he might deliver the baby to them. Alternatively, the baby might be taken to be raised as a chapter serf.

Following up on Shield of Baal:

>Nids attack Baal
>BA and successors defend, but heavily outnumbered
>Swarmlord orchestrates a full-scale attack on Sanguinius' tomb
>At the peak of the battle, Nids consume Primarch corpse
>Maybe BA save part of it at great cost of course
>Tyranids begin cooking up Nid-marchs (hello giant expensive models)

What happens next, then?

>>
dumb
>>
>>52016087
Why? The Tyranids deploying a debased, alien mockery of the Emperor's son against his own children is suitably grimdark, fits their MO, and advances the story of the Tyranid attack on Baal. It also provides opportunities for the Sanguinor to dramatically reveal his identity and climatically slay the beast, only for it to be reborn elsewhere (dun dun dun). If the nid-march was good enough it might even give them a presence again.

Most importantly, GW could sell a big supplement with lots of huge models (nid-march and Sanguinor Ascendent or whatever). They're advancing the setting, so why not?

The less I know about the villains and their motivation, the better.

By humanizing my enemies, I establish the world as morally gray, and it creates ethical problems later on.

Far better to slaughter them like dogs and never concern yourself with the issues.

What system would you use to run a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure campaign, /tg/? I'm considering running one.
54 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>52014982
Fate, possibly with a bit of homebrew.

I'm not even joking, it's remarkably great at emulating both the "just as keikakku" way fights in Jojo work out, as well as giving you the flexibility to "stretch" powers without having to stat out every little thing.
>>
>>52016323
This. I'm playing a JoJo game using FATE right now. Only one session, we beat up a guy whose Stand had possessed all the random crap in a house and made it attack us when we entered.
>>
>>52014982
Fate is a good suggestion but I'd suggest a look at Marvel Heroic. I don't think it's quite as elegant a system but it's better at representing weird power sets and has better mechanics for over the top dramatic moments.

Hey fores/tg/oblins,

I'm looking to get some feedback on these descriptions of my setting's different human peoples (of the !notEurope region).

I've posted this recently, but would like to again for more feedback. Each group will have its own post because I can't fit them all here.

How do these strike you? Are they one-dimensional, overly-derivative or offensive? Please let me know your thoughts.
