is a gravity well omnidirectional? also, what would be the opposite of a gravity well? an explosion?

Yes.

An antigravity fount? There are scifi possibilities in that... any of you guys write?
>>
>>8970681
OP here, i've just been thinking about it, i write a little. and my mind was just confused by it. if gravity is essentially intensified by this, and the force is one that "pulls", would the opposite, a gravity hill, say, repulse?

also, i had the question about dark matter come to me, the concept that it influences matter by degrees enough to ensure that present models in space hold together, galaxies or whatever, is there an opposing influence by matter on dark matter? can dark matter be manipulated theoretically by using an inverse of the same principles it uses to manipulate matter?
>>
>>8970681
also, are there models of omnidirection? are you sure it's omnidirectional, or are there angles that it theoretically doesn't apply to?

>Intellectual monopoly is the greatest obstacle in the progress of technology and mankind. IM's only purpose is to generate easy money for lazy parasites that leech and drain from those who truly create, recreate and improve.

So, what are /sci/s' opinions on the subject?

Let's talk about studying. I'm stuck at college, finishing my STEM degree, but the last subjects are becoming hell for me. I'm struggling to sit down and pour hours into them, and even when I achieve it the learning quality is shit tier, so I end unmotivated knowing that of 10 hours invested, I only really studied around 4 or 5.

My wish is to finish the fucking degree, get a job and get out of my parents house to live with my GF, but first I need to pass these fucking subjects. Any advice? How do you maximize your study time? What do you do in your free time between study sessions?

Btw, I have one exam tomorrow, another on Thursday and another one on Friday. Tomorrow one is pretty difficult, the thursday one is a bit easier and the Friday one should be a piece of cake. I'd like to pump a nice day of study today but the stress is killing me.

Can any of science types help me out with something? Over the past few years there have been a rising number of cases of Kundalini Awakening cases reported by people, when it should be rare. I have a theory that the cause of this is the increased use of ssri anti-depressants and some of the newer anti-psychotics like Abilify. Is there a way I could study google search data to see if there is a correlation between increased use of these drugs and the rise in bizarre type murders and Kundalini Awakenings?

I think the awakening could be related because the symptoms of awakening dovetail with the side effects of these drugs. It has me thinking maybe drug companies are trying to create an enlightenment pill and are using the public to experiment on. Am I crazy?

No anon, real thing. If a drug company could create an enlightenment pill, how much money would that make them? They are always trying to produce performance enhancing drugs. Lexapro is known to cause major rewiring of the brain in just THREE HOURS. you should take the time to watch this video. The same damn thing happened to me on prozac.

I'm an undergrad going to a research conference in about a week to present some research I've been working on. How do I make a poster that won't shame me amongst all the grad students and professionals there? Any other tips to make sure I get the most out of this?

I recently spoke to a pedophile online, what is your medical opinion of him/her (didn't catch their gender so I'll refer to him/her as "it" for ease)?

>It says it was abused from its father at a young age with a narcissistic mother.

>Crucially, it does not get sexually aroused from the idea of raping children. Instead it gets aroused from the idea of a child hurting them (not rape, just humiliation and it is ashamed by this).

>It has never offended or looked at cp and has no interest in doing so.

>It still feels non-sexual protectiveness care towards children.

>It believes that child/adult relations are not consensual and that it is morally wrong.

Why is this pedo like this? It seemed to me like it had genuine empathy, what's up with it?If the person has no interest in looking at cp or offending, then are they even pedos? (before you ask, no I'm not the person)

Being a pedo is really annoying, senpai.
>>

If they are attracted to children, then yes they are pedophiles.
It's not like pedophiles chose to be sexually attracted to children, like actual homosexuals didn't choose to be attractred to people of the same sex.

Let V represent "For all"

Then the book say represent universals with implications like:

Vx(P(x)->Q(x))

But if P(x) is false then the entire statement is true. Is this a flaw? I thought you'd want the statement to be true if both P(x) and Q(x) are true.

Can someone explain this to me?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8972362
It is true if P and Q are both true.
It's also true if P is false

When you read "if P then Q" you should interpret it as "if P is true then Q must be true".

It says nothing about what happens if P is false. If P is false there is no requirement.
>>
>>8972362
The case where P(x) is false and the statement is true is an example of vacuous truth. I like to think of it this way:
I tell you "If you give me 20 dollars, I'll give you an A in the class", if you don't give me 20 dollars and I give you a B, did I lie? In logic, the answer is no.
>>
>>8972362
>>8972371
Also with the universal, if you want the universal to be true [math]\forall x(P(x) \rightarrow Q(x))[/math], this universal is saying "All things that hold the property P, also hold the property Q" it says nothing about things that are Q and not P, nor does it say anything about things that are not P.
[math]\forall x(P(x) \wedge Q(x))[/math]
Says that everything is both P and Q, which is a much stronger statement.

Anyone going to see the total eclipse on Aug 21st?

It will cross from coast to coast of the United States.

I'm fortunate enough to live in KY so I'm going to drive out to what space.com mapped as the best spot for the eclipse

what are you fellas doing for it?

NCfag here-- will be driving down to the path of totality as it crosses just south of here in SC.

I have not seen a total eclipse in several decades, but it is well worth some effort to see.

Protip: Make sure to be some place you can see what happens to sunlight filtering through leaves on the trees as the moon starts to cover the sun -- but of course you need to be able to step out and have a clear view of the sun when you get close to totality.
>>

I gave in and bought eclipse glasses for my gf and me.

MOfag here. I live directly in the path of the eclipse. Going to Giant City state park though with a friend to enjoy nature for the day.

Who came up with the pic related for multivariable limits? I cannot find it anywhere online, and in this notebook I have is written "Heine theorem". Apparently you can just substitute (1/n,1/n) and let n->inf, then (1/n,-1/n) and let n->inf, and if the answers match you have proven the limit exists? It seems a bit fishy to me, because the person I got the notebook from is not very good at maths, so I wanted to find it online, and I cannot literally find a mention of it anywhere, let alone the whole explanation.

So long story short, I just need the proper name of the theorem, and if you have a link with explanation or something, or have any resource to point me to, I'd be forever grateful.

Holy shit every time I ask for help, or try to study math from foreign books, or watch videos on maths it's always retarded levels on Calc. 1, 2 & 3. It seems that you people don't do half of shit we study in my shitty third world country. How the fuck.

>Apparently you can just substitute (1/n,1/n) and let n->inf, then (1/n,-1/n) and let n->inf, and if the answers match you have proven the limit exists?

No fucking way. You are retarded OP, because it would be really easy to disprove this theorem.

Consider the surface [math] z = \frac{|x|}{|y|} [/math]
Now go kill yourself, brainletto.

t. Someone living and studying in a third world country, so if you couldn't even do this then I would suggest that you categorize your country as something even shittier because you are shit amongst shit.

I'm asking you dumb fuck, of course I don't know what is it and does it even work. I'm just saying every time I ask anything, nobody has ever heard of it.

So you're saying the shit in the pic related doesn't even exist? That my prof. pulled it out of his ass? I'm not saying it definitely does prove that the limit exist, I said that's what somebody wrote in the notebook and that it's fishy.

The point of the question, you dumb asshole, was what is it, does anyone recognize something like this being used to work on multivariable limits. Jesus.
