High school math teacher here.
Main reason: I'm paid to teach it to you, so you can get a meme degree or become an engineer and enter into a meme profession.
Other than that... in ausfagland, you study math because it is on the curriculum which is determined by figureheads in government positions from the first day you start school until the end of year 10.
Most students are shit at maths for the following reasons:
>Shit primary school teachers don't like math so never studied calculus themselves and dislike teaching maths.
>Students finish primary school and enter middle school to only receive math lessons from science teachers. If they are lucky, they will recieve lessons from maths teachers.

Does Chronic fatigue syndrome even exist?
Its been talked about constantly for the past month on the local radio station (of cource with lots of ads for herbal suplimints that can fix it) and now everyone in my family think the have it (except my dad, who calls it 'Laziness syndrome'). Everyone keeps asking me about and how 'modern scince and doctors don't know how to treat it' it so I looked it up and the symptoms are even more vague than ADHDs. I mean look at this shit

Isnt this just having a shit lifestyle, then fixing it? This seems to be the next cool disability to blame for having a shit life now that everyone has ADHD, gluten intolerance and autism.

It seems to me like consciousness is just a background process of the brain. When the brain is working really hard in a stressful situation, maybe exercising or running away from a predator, there's not really an intelligent higher level consciousness that's actively thinking about math and stuff. Only when you're sitting and relaxed can you do that and really think. You get caught up in daily cycles doing repetitive tasks and only when you sit and stop and break from this, and your brain is no longer being utilized, are you more conscious
What if consciousness is just wasted idle CPU cycles in our brain. An emergent property of our decision-making process that isn't actually important to it

do whatever makes it so that you last as long as you can and may have the chance of experiencing rejuvenation technology and brain upload backups one day; now the conundrum is, do you work on things more in hope to advance humanity and or throw energy at the world and help making that technology possible one day (I'm sure working on anything STEM that you like to do has at least some to do with biotechnology and that stuff, i mean the more science is done the more science occurs), and in the process you lose a lot of sleep risking to lose a few years of life, maybe even dying right before the rejuvenation technology is discovered, or you just wait it out and play it safe, making the bet that since you're not a geneticist anyway, you'll just have to depend on them to bring it to us and make sure you're really safe and healthy so you can live long enough to see it, and amass money so you can afford the treatment when it comes about
