Imagine how cold and reptilian the world was before mammals and birds. Nothing but machine like life that didn't care, didn't love, didn't think. Just eating, pooping machines.

Did dinosaur intelligence even improve during the mesozoic era?
So who would win in a fight to the death, anomalocaris or sea scorpion?
They're fighting over who gets to take hallucigenia out to the prom.
Is graph theory nice?
Depends what you mean by nice and what kind of graph theory. You use it for all kind of physical, topological, algebraical or stochastical problems (for example Markov Chains, Random walks on graphs etc). If you like to work with combinatorial tools and matrices. Yes why not?
Yeah I like it, download neo4j, graphs look nice.

NO IT'S MEAN! This is now a mean thread!
please no roleplay Christians or baiting
what exactly is wrong with the theory that a divine being created the universe and mankind in its own image? Is the development of human consciousness itself not proof of the existence of the divine? How else could you account for human beings having seemingly having deific powers of the mind in quality and scope if the divine itself does not exist? No other creatures have consciousness and as a Christians I believe human beings being given a divine personality or personhood atttached to a mortal coil this external shell is proof in and of itself of miracles. What's wrong with this proof?
And yes, this doesn't necessarily support only a Christian God but it does account for the existence of divinity and explains consciousness which evolutionary scientists can't explain. It seems really childish in the absence of any other explanations to dismiss our view of the nature of man as "hurr durr all religion is retarded". Not baiting but if you have atheistic stubbornness you should really try lsd or psilocybin because being hostile to anything that contradicts your worldview isn't a good virtue.
to expand a bit on the arguement in OP, it's having this physical form that I think hides the true nature of man from most people. When I talk to people about this they seem to feel kinship with animals, they just see themselves as being more advanced cattle. I'd like you to take a minute to just think of human consciousness and what it really is, and realise what we are in relation to cows or chickens. They're nothing compared to us. They're a collection of instincts, emotions and senses.

>theory that a divine being created the universe and mankind in its own image?
It's not scientific.

I don't know how /sci/ feels about philosophy...
How close are we? Is the job of the future a biomechanical engineer or some shit? Are artificial limbs and augmentations the future?
very far away
yes
yes
>>8994016
No the more we "advance" the more complicated our society becomes and we make more mistakes. These mistakes will culminate in the destruction of society as we know it, leading the people who would have been researchers to die or become farmers/hunters/scavengers instead.

What happened to this representation of the electric field?
>>8993052
you equipotential lines and field lines? it is still common. This is what I learned when I took all my electromagnetics courses as an an undergrad.
>>8993099
I don't mean the potential.
I mean to ask what happened to the field conjugate to magnetism present in the older electrical texts.
>>8993117
What do you mean by conjugate to magnetism? Your picture only depicts the field lines and potential lines. Moreover, this example you show is a static dipole field. There is no magnetism present in a static dipole field. (Would need permanent magnets or large scale charge flow.)
Has this shit head done anything of real value? I literally anything else on him except he has a big iq. Why is everyone jerking him off?
>>8992525
>Why this shithead famous?
because he has a high IQ
>Has this shit head done anything of real value?
no, but you can attempt to read his CTMU if you want, I've never seen anyone able to obtain anything of intellectual worth from it
> Why is everyone jerking him off?
who? normies have certainly never heard of him
>>8992532
iq becomes less and less as the number increases
>>8992546
Are you trying to say it has diminishing returns?
How can 0.999999...9999 be equal to one when they're separate numbers.
Doesn't matter how many 9s you tack on to the end, you'll never actually reach 1.
round up
no one post an answer please
>>8991999
Ah right so they're just rounding up. Got it
Since /fit/ is completely retarded and doesn't know anything about it, can someone here enlighten me? I guess it would be something like ottermode but of course I might be wrong. As for workout is cardio really the best thing about it or one should also do workouts that focus on bodybuilding since that increases test and thats extremely important, its seems. Please elaborate as much as possible.
the most important fitness indicators are resting heart rate and body fat percentage.. so do cardio and don't eat like a piglet. also people with higher muscle mass have an easier time reducing their body fat, so strength training is good too. /fit/ people are mostly concerned with getting big which isn't bad in and of itself, but you can't neglect training cardio if you actually want to be healthy.
Thin frame and squats using the smith machine!
Weights for endorphins = good times for your brain. Cardio for blood flow and further endorphins. Low bodyfat for lack of depression which fucks with your brain. Vitamins all accounted for otherwise your energy will suffer. About 8 hours good sleep in a completely dark room to get the benefits of that.
What was our consensus on free will again?
How do you obtain consensus?

Holy shit.
Is fusion finished at this point?
There's literally 0% chance that it will ever be cheaper than fission, let alone other power sources.
Should we divert all energy research funds to new fission ideas like molten salt reactors instead?

That's lockheed martin, they're trying a design that's already been tried. It failed before, no surprise if it fails again.
Lockheed's fusion effort is just a publicity stunt.
>>There's literally 0% chance
show your math ass hole
>>Should we divert all energy research funds to new fission ideas like molten salt reactors instead?
No. If you diverted fusion funding for MSRs you'd barely have any funding at all.
I will say this though, clean coal and carbon capture research are a waste. Clean coal is a scam designed to extend the life of an energy source that should have been killed decades ago. Carbon capture ends up being more expensive than nuclear because of the thermodynamics of removing carbon. If we're gonna divert money to fucking crazy nuclear plant designs it should be from that.

Can anyone in aerospace engineering explain to me the benefits of designing the rear fins on drones to point down like that instead of more traditional rear wing designs that you see on airplanes?
Are those rear fins even airfoils?
>>8991022
It's so it can fly really low to the ground and chop the heads off of terrorists
>>8991022
put on your thinking cap and let me ask you what the difference is between the drone in your picture and an airplane in terms of what is where on the craft
So I was flicking though this thread >>8992570 and some of the posts were pretty dire. It looks like the majority of people in that thread don't understand how science functions, nor how it [math] can [/math] function. In particular there seems to be a common theme running thought it that you need evidence that something doesn't exist. Now to my mind that doesn't make sense since how can something that doesn't exist ever leave behind evidence that it was never there.
Is it time to start teaching philosophy to children? I can't really see any other way of getting away from the ideas in that thread.
Pic unrelated...Well maybe not that unrelated.
>>8995907
>In particular there seems to be a common theme running thought it that you need evidence that something doesn't exist. Now to my mind that doesn't make sense since how can something that doesn't exist ever leave behind evidence that it was never there.
You can't know if something was 'never' there, but you can know if something is not there currently, simply by something else being there
>>8995907
>that you need evidence that something doesn't exist.
but absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence
>>8995927
Instead of trotting out your ebbin Carl Sagon maymay, why not engage with the argument? What would the evidence of something not existing look like? I mean if it doesn't exist, how can it interact with the universe to leave evidence?
I'm learning Fortran, and it seems like a comfy language. People have been telling me that there's typically only one way to do a given thing in Fortran, which leaves little room for doing stuff wrong, and I think I'm starting to see what they mean.
Anyone else here like Fortran?
And btw, ow do I use LAPACK? I don't know much about programming to be honest besides syntax. Before now I've been writing in Python using Spyder, which literally just werks. I didn't need to mess around with SciPy or anything, just install Spyder and "import" everything. So how do I "install" LAPACK? And how do I get the BLAS? Do I just download some files and place them in the right folder, then continue using gfortran to compile?
Hopefully this is a good place to ask. I tried asking in a programming thread in /g/ as well, but the conversation was headed in another direction.
>C++ is really good
>no it is shit
>no it is good
>no
idk every time I looked at fortran code in my compilers course shit looked really weird.
but i'm not saying it's bad.
Also C++ isn't shit, kys
>>8995833
C++ is huge and messy. It means you won't know how to use it properly. For smaller tasks that doesn't really matter though.
Why is there less air the higher up you go?
>>8995805
There isn't, ((((they)))) just don't want you to reach the greys and attain information that could potentially ruin the elites' monopoly on un-earthed knowledge. The liberals have been lying to you all this time. The republicans are the truth. The moon landing was fake. Buzz Aldrin is a coconut.
>>8995805
The weight of the air above presses on the air below, making the air below more dense. Air is 14 PSI because if you took a column of air one square inch all the way up to space, it would weigh 14 pounds. If you're on a mountain, there's less air above you because you're closer to space.
>>8995805
because the concavity of the earth holds the air like a bowl, and any air above the rim of the earth spills out
