/sci/ uses IRC, like /g/.

Is there a way to learn this shit faster? My lecturer is a senile old man. This is a Calc 1 course and everyone is still in the hangover phase from a test on derivatives.

Can the autists of /sci/ give some sagely advice?

I'm the average combo of lazy and retarded, but now I have painfully convincing external factors that have made me more hardworking for the time being.

Until my professor stops being senile and I stop being retarded, help is the least I can ask for at this point.

Break the integral up into monotonic (always either increasing or decreasing) sections, and then substitute in +/- infinity for one of the arguments. You take the infinite limit after you perform symbolic integration.

Just integrate both sides as they stand.

[eqn]\frac{dH(t)}{H(t)} = \frac{-dt}{\tau}[/eqn]
[eqn]\int{\frac{dH(t)}{H(t)}} = \int{\frac{-dt}{\tau}}[/eqn]
[eqn]\ln(H(t)) = -t/\tau + const[/eqn]

The const is a constant of integration.

Couldn't he just formalize his own proof and feed it through a proof checker?

There is a little-known proof method by the name of "Proof by Intimidation" where one's reputation supersedes the validity of the proof.

I'm retarded and you guys are less retarded so I have a question.

Do atoms dissipate their heat/thermodynamic energy in any other way besides transferring it to other atoms?

They're an imbalanced blob of particles where electrons constantly revolve as a counterbalance to the positive charge at the center, I figured that eventually the energy in the electrons would dissipate through friction from constantly moving, or that the small gravity of the atomic nucleus would also drain the force behind the revolutions over an obscenely long period of time.

I'm retarded too, but what exactly would they have friction with?
>>
>Do atoms dissipate their heat/thermodynamic energy in any other way besides transferring it to other atoms?

Electromagnetic radiation.

Also this >>9065090
>>
>>9065090
In a vacuum the electrons of a lone atom wouldn't experience friction?

I guess I have the false image of space causing friction but I guess if there's nothing there then friction wouldn't occur. What about the force of gravity?

Could any student of electrical or control engineering give me a hand?

Why A = (N + 1) / 2 * u (n)?
Does not that first adder have any effect?

For me it should be A = (N + 1) / 2 * (u (n) + u (n-1)).

>For me it should be A = (N + 1) / 2 * (u (n) + u (n-1)).
i agree that there should be an effect of the adder. but i disagree with your formula, though i have to admit that i never bothered getting used to the block diagrams of filters.

the path leading to the first adder always returns the last value that leaves the adder back to it.

lets assume we start the system. then the output of the adder a(n) is zero for n < 0.
let u(n), the entry sequence, be equal to 1 e.g. u(0) = u(1) = ... = 1.

then we have:
a(0) = u(0) + a(-1) = u(0) = 1
a(1) = u(1) + a(0) = 2;
a(2) = u(2) + a(1) = 3;
and so on.

as you can see a(n) is monotonically incrasing.
but going by your formula this cannot occur as u(n) + u(n-1) is always either 1 or 2 for my entry sequence.
>>
>>9065741
addendum:
now i recall that the block diagrams are rather unintuitive as a recursion such the one at the first adder usually just means that the entry sequence is lead back with some delay (here a delay of 1). as this is closer to the solution presented in your image i guess thats how it is (even though its a super retarded way of depicting it).

tl;dr:
you are correct IMO
>>
>>9065006
oh wait.
h(n) are the impulse responses and u(n) is the unit step i.e. u(n) = 1 for n >= 0.

i think my first interpretation is correct.

to calculate all h's(n) you need to set the input signal to x(n) = delta(n) i.e. 1 for n = 0 and zero else.

then the first adder creates the unit signal u(n).

so yes, the paper is correct.

Any portuguese anons here? I have a question, are the babyboomer portuguese/older gen portuguese more inclined to think education is shit? Portugal has the lowest literacy rate of any European nation and is at the same level of many 3rd world nations because of an entire gen of Portuguese under Salazar didn't get educated. I ask this because my father is an immigrant from Portugal and he keeps thinking college education is worthless ( major in MechEng). He constantly tells me to quit college to work some manual labor job. He is fucked in the head and a huge alcoholic but I am wondering if this is the common theme among older portuguese people. Do they think college education is worthless because they grew up in an agrarian culture unlike other europeans who value higher education?

we think college is pretty important, you can only get a decent job here if you have a degree
>>
Depends on where your father is from, i think.
My grandmother doesn't value education much, she grew up and lived most of her life cultivating, however my mother does, despite not knowing understanding what i am studying, she believes the more education the better.
My gf comes from a more rural area and her mother had to basicaly help her "sneak" her application to college because all the rest of her family believed it was a waste of time and money because she has cousins who went to college and ended up unemployed ( shit degrees with no employability ). Exacly like your case, once her family found out they told her to quit every chance they got, however now she works for a major tech company and not a single whisper since.

Another common theme is the older generations who do believe in education think only Law school is worthwhile.

If morality is subjective, should it interfere with science which is meant to advance humanity as whole?

I know that scientific curiosity can be dreadful as it can create things that are able to wipe us all out, but still, it seems like a tradeoff for advancement

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a pdf for a math textbook. "introduction to discrete mathematics" by K. G. Choo and D. E. Taylor.

I can't really afford the price which people or the school are selling them at.
Do you know any sites where I would be able to find this stuff. I've never really torrented things before.

Thanks :)

Dumb person here, I want to learn more about Quantum Mechanics. Where should I start?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.

Well you first need to learn linear algebra really well.

Otherwise you don't understand shit.
>>
>>9064523
Like the other anon said. It's impossible without first having the required math skills.
>>
>>9064523
What is you're math background? You should have a solid understanding in advanced mathematical fields such as
Group Theory
Number Theory
Multilinear Algebra
Advanced Analysis of Polynomial Rings
Quantum Electrodynamics
in order to effectively study quantum mechanics.

I think this is the right place to post this, and i hope that some of you guys can give a serious and honest opinion on this. Especially to those guys in like Harvard or Yale or any top tier school, have you seen shady shit?

There are people right, they go to universities, those universities are owned by the wealthy, so there are people in those institutions that answer to the people that own these schools, because i mean, someone has to own them right, someone has to fund them. Now, those people that go to these universities, they get taught by people who work at the school, who in turn answer to the people that fund them. How can we trust what's being taught in these schools? These people are really smart, how do we know we're being told everything? and not just enough to get hired by the companies that fund these schools (if this is even the case), is there a sure method either through science or through mathematics, even physics and philosophy that can prove to us that what we are learning is true to human logic or human nature if that makes sense, i don't know why but have this weird feeling that some of the shit we learn at schools is bs that the higher ups want to learn for their agenda and not for the love of learning and understanding the world. Like computer nerds all want to get hired by google and microsoft and stuff like that, so they go to schools and they get turned into tools to be used by these companies. I don't want to go to university to be a brainwashed cuck, i want to go for my personal education not to be trained to be a fuck boy slave for some faggot company.
tl;dr is the stuff being taught at higher education institutions bs? or is it actually stuff that people years ago developed for us to better understand the world and not for companies that fund these schools to abuse and hire those people that graduate to help them control the world.
