Where can I read more about generalized Fourier Analysis?

I know about Fourier series on Hilbert Spaces, Fourier Transforms, and all that jazz for [math] L^2(\mathbb{R})[/math] functions, but I'd like to know how it works for more general spaces. I'm specifically interested in Fourier Analysis on the [math]d[/math]-dimensional torus [math]\mathbb{T}^d[/math].

Can there be noncommutative vector space? Vecor space with addition forms abelian group, can there exist similar object which forms nonabelian group under addition? If so, how are these object called, are they being studied, where can I find something about them

>>9067646
You can look at modules over noncommutative rings, where scalar multiplication would be noncommutative.
>>
>>9067659
I'm not asking about modules but about structure similar to vector space over a field where vector addition is not commutative

Hey, I am trying to get the gist about Wim hof breathing methods (YouTube it quickly if you are unfamiliar), and if it's a bunch of bogus hippy bullshit (because it has most of the warning signs of that afaic) or if there is any substance to it.
The Wikipedia page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wim_Hof ) states there is a study about it/him, publish is a respected scientific journal (PNAS). However, suspiciously, the reference doesn't actually link to it.
What do you guys think?

Could be good. I've somehow learned myself some Tibetan tummo technique or some shit to gain more body heat without being aware of it at first. so I don't see how this won't work.
>>

You may black out dude, pic related.

Also, I've only looked into this for about 2 minutes, and already I've found some guy claiming that you'll "totally oxygenate your blood" etc.. If you follow the link marked "shallow water blackout" on the wikipedia page you linked, you'll see that that's not true. Your blood is normally 98-99% oxygenated without any need for tricks.

Not looking good so far...

Second part/ what happens when you hyperventilate, then hold your breath. First pic is normal breathing.

Do you ever study and come across a difficult problem, and you get a bit anxious just by looking at it. You look up, scratch, cough and when you almost get back to work, you suddenly remember how hot that waifu from the anime you watched last night is, and you start daydreaming. 15 minutes go by and you realize "fuck, i have work to do, fuck it" another 10 minutes go by and you decide to go out for fresh air.
You have that urge inside of you i have to get back to work, but you don't really feel like it. After you come back inside you go and play games. At the end of the day before bed you are just like, what has my life become.

That's all life is ever going to be, a struggle.
It gets a whole hell of a lot worse when you give up and stop struggling.
>>
>>9067550
I do feel like that about some problems but I just skip them. There is no shame in skipping problems.

I mean, life is too short. If I already started a "hard" problem then I will usually go until the end but if the problem is so weird I don't even know how to even start then I have no time for that. I just google the solution and learn so that hopefully the next time I encounter a problem of that brand I will be able to get into it.

I need some advice. I have spent the past year living abroad in the UK, where I studied my undergrad (Aerospace Engineering) trying to find a job but I wasn't able to. After failing at so I'm planning the next step.

Should I go back and keep trying, go somewhere else (mb Germany - where i don't know anyone tho) or stay at home with a very small prospect of getting a job and study a master's? I'm lost

This is probably the wrong board. So I would usually tell you to fuck off. But I am in the same situation ( I'm not doing aerospace tho). I'll try getting a part time in the 2nd year. The show must go on.

Is it better to be the former, or the latter? Can you even be a polymath in this day and age, where the amount of information is humongous? Hell, factor in things like musical or philosophical/historical education, athleticism and the list goes on and on. Can a man, in this day and age, be a Renesance Man?

Pic kinda related (Stark is a specialist, Doom is a polymath). Couldn't be arsed to find something more fitting.

stop that shit

anything can be as complicated as you want.

For example. you can say that something is white or you can say that it has the same color of a dark body at 6500ºK.

And remmeber, there are hundreds of textbooks based on triangles. Just three lines connected by three vertices. Hundreds of books.

Hey /sci/ I was wondering how the science works when it comes to calories versus the actual weight of food. For example, 3,500 calories roughly comprises one pound. Does this mean that 3,500 calories worth of food will always weigh one pound prior to being eaten? Or is there some conversion process in the body which makes up the difference?

tl;dr: is it possible to have food that contains 3,500 cals but weighs less than a pound?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>9066964
Yes. And no.
>>
3,500 calories is 1 pound of body fat. Most food isn't made of pure body fat.

>tl;dr: is it possible to have food that contains 3,500 cals but weighs less than a pound?
Yeah, a little less than 2 McDonalds Shamrock shakes.
>>
>>9066964
fat = (9cal / g) * (453g / lb) = 4077cal / lb

But the body is not 100% efficient
Accurate calorie measures are derived from measuring the caloric content of a food prior to digestion then measuring the caloric content of the doodoo after digestion.

They say that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Go figure what that means.
What actually happens is that purported evidence rejecting non-mainstream claims gets no scrutiny at all. See here for an egregious example: http://weirdtech.com/sci/expe.html
Does mainstream science play with loaded dice?

Read some Kuhn.
>>
>>9066844
yes, but think about it this way... most of the current accepted theories were at some point marginal and non-mainstream and some of them if not alot of them probably got some degree of skepticism or ridicule, but they worked their way into the mainstream through their merit eventually.
>>
>>9066844
>What role does herd instinct play in mainstream science?

less of an impact than it does on theists
