>As a sophisticated ruling class, the Ottomans looked down upon the Turkish peasantry, calling them Eşek Turk (the donkey Turk) and Kaba Turk (stupid Turk). Expressions like "Turk-head" and "Turk-person" were contemptuously used by Ottomans when they wanted to denigrate each other.[29][30][31]

Can the Ottoman empire adequately be described as an empire of Persianized Greeks ruling over a mass of wanton T*rks?

Hello /His/, back again with another Episode of the Three Komnenos. The 5th Episode will be the Finale, covering pretty much all the big important events of Manuel's rule, but I have decided I will be doing an extra episode of the Podcast Covering the structure, equipment and tactics of the Byzantine Army during the 12th century, as this will provide important context to the historical events and the Komnenian reconquests, as well as changes to the army from previous centuries.

"Manuel Komnenos comes to the throne in a moment of opportunity and crisis. The fall of Edessa sends shockwaves through Western Europe and now Crusaders are once again on the march through Byzantine territory, presenting new opportunities and challenges for the young Emperor. Across the Adriatic, the Norman kingdom is teetering on the brink after the death of Rodger II, with Revolts and invasion plaguing the weak William I. With chaos in Southern Italy, could the Romans after more then half a Millenia finally return to Rome? All this and more, on Episode 4 of the Three Komnenos: Born to the Purple."

Can somebody explain to me why do white supremacists like to call themselves "Aryans"?

Why do they roleplay as Indo-Iranians?

Why do Persians roleplay as Indo-Europeans when 90% of their DNA is from Neolithic Iran?
>>
>>3176667

White people like to connect and identify with the Aryans because they were either responsible for or were the decisive contributions to some of the most influential and important civilizations on earth, i.e. the Persians, Vedic India, the Greeks.

These ones that went to Persia and India and those that went west to Europe have common ancestry. It's as though you are member of a large family and some of your cousins have incredibly impressive accomplishments in addition to you and your immediate siblings, so naturally you would take pride in the whole family.

Is de-urbanization of a society possible in 2017? Let's say that there's a third world country out there that's is struggling to modernize, has no hope of modernizing, and begin a program to go back and de-modernize the country: to drive that nation's society back to an 18th century level where the majority of the people have their own little plots of land and live off of subsistence farming. ]

It's ludicrous, I know all I'm asking is it something feasible? Or are all the nations of the world locked into the path of constant progress?

objectively better than endlessly pouring money into a shithole so shitheads can pocket it while nothing gets done. The worst third world cities are not really worth improving
>>
>>3176342
Simply cannot happen. Compared to a spread out rural population, cities are phenomenally efficient and only getting more so. You can house more people in a smaller space, serve them more effectively, feed them more easily, and generally every system works better and need is more easily met in cities. Now you may see some drawbacks like pollution, but per-capita, city dwellers pollute less than rural households. Cities can organize garbage services and recycle or bury their trash in a well managed landfill. Rural people most often burn their garbage or dump it into an unlined, unregulated pit. With how much populations in undeveloped countries have exploded, ruralizing the entire population would be hugely impractical and undesirable.

Ironically, my captcha was to click on all of the buses; transportation is a huge logistical advantage that cities hold over countryside.

Dear /his/
So what do you guys carry in your time travel kits? As of lately I became concerned with the possibility of spontaneous time travel and I want to be prepared!

List battles where an outnumbered army won by sheer tactical brilliance. I'll start:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Yeghev%C4%81rd

>Persian advance guard stumbles upon the full might of the Ottomans
>Neutralize Ottoman artillery in the beginning stages of the battle
>Persian artillery wreak havoc on the Ottoman lines
>As the Ottomans retreat, Nader orders the hidden Persian troops to flank them
>90% of the Ottoman army killed, wounded, or captured

what will the legacy of anime be in regards to the future of a global culture?

Minimal. Japanese people are facing demographic mass extinction and local animation will take over across the planet.

Just like the JRPG went away, anime will too.

4chan was originally founded for moot to discuss anime and vidya, if 4chan ends up having a lasting legacy on global culture that's a pretty big impact.

Why were the Brits traditionally regarded as experts on intelligence? Was it deserved?
33 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>3176116
Taking a wild guess here but I assume it was due to the ability for the British Empire to place/have agents wherever they were needed. The Empire ruled the seas and there were probably more British tourists in the world than anyone else prior to WWI due to their high living standard spurred by the industrial revolution. These factors could allow the Brits to move agents around and provide an easy alibi.

Currently reading about R. S. S. Baden-Powell and his 5-year stint for British Intelligence based out of Malta. He was easily able to disguise himself as a travelling artist of various disciplines and fool the Italians, Turks and French while witnessing and recording maneuvers and details of the their armed forces.
>>
>>3176179
Are the British really that well traveled though? It seems to me that they mostly clustered in the westernised parts of colonies, and only the army really got around.
>>
>>3176236

The upper and middle classes, who would be often the only ones to make it to the intelligence services were very well travelled typically and they still are.
