Hahah guys, lets build these massive monuments, that take a lifetime to build and costs hundreds or thousands of lives, for no reason other than to bury one person.
What the fuck were they thinking?
>>3183459
To show everyone how massively powerful that one person is.

eternal empire of the god king, bitch, get to work
>for no reason other than to bury one person.
They had a practical religiopolitical function, you just don't understand their cosmological framework so you can't grasp their function
How about we have a Vexillology thread. Post your favorite flags and rate others on their merits. Has anyone here ever attended a North American Vexillological Association meeting?
Top 10 flags in the modern era (not in order).

Allies. Cause I'm British. To be honest OP I don't get the point of this thread, the Allies won so we know they were the superior side.

Why don't you post the minor Axis powers too then?
China deserves the 4th spot if you insist on including more than the big 3.
Axis so all the commies get gassed.
''Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity."
Is this true?
Who even said this? This phrase is a monument to stupidity alright.

Why do Americans think Neuschwanstein has anything to do with fortifications?

ITT: We discuss the reasons capitals and large cities became successful, narrowed down as much as possible.
London:
>founded by Romans as a port city
>bridge was built over River Thames that made colonization and mercantilism much easier
>sacked by Boudica
>rebuilt as a planned city by the Romans
>trade and wealth accumulate
>fast forward to William the Conqueror establishing the British Kingdom and expanding British land across the Isles
>architecture becomes less Roman and more unique
>wealth accumulates and is kept in the capital
>fast forward to today
>London is a leading world city with the second highest population in Europe after Paris
>world's largest financial center
>world's most visited city

London today

Why do we study history? I would give some bullshit answer about the "learn from the past, build for the future" meme, but I just find it fascinating.
Yeah obviously because you're just some millenial nobody who doesn't make any money by doing academic work nor are you in any sort of position that would make your historically-informed decisions carry any kind of weight. literally nobody here is going to have a different answer from yours
>>3182661
So we don't lose any important information from the past and have some context to put that information to.
I wanted to improve my writing so I took some History courses since you usually write multiple essays for each course.
Which country has the best flag? I'd say Somalia is a pretty solid contender.

None.

The church founded by Christ which still exists today.
If you could go back in time and kill this man while he was a baby would you do it? Why? Why not?
>>3182482
No, it would result in a drastically different world in which the events that led to my existence would not have occurred.
Yes. If Röhm was free to ruin economy, and purge "reactionary" Wermacht's officers, Germany would be defeated by Poland.

I'm pretty well informed on Greek and late Roman history, which has given me some outside knowledge about Persians and Iranians in general, but I'd like to know more. Can anyone recommend good entry level works on Persian history, especially in the Parthian and Sassanian eras? I'm a history student looking for something to eventually specialize in and Iran seems pretty neat, but I don't know where to start.
Books, docs, lectures, podcasts are all appreciated.
What's a Persian?
You mean (F)ersian right?
>>3182427
I don't get this meme
>>3182431
Before the Arab invasion (F)ersians used to call themselves Persian and their language Parsi. Then Arabs came, in Arabic language the letter "P" does not exist so Arabs called them Farsi. Today Persians call themselves Fars and their language Farsi
