Azerbaijan is probably my favorite Turkic nation. Their currency last time I checked was worth .50 USD per unit, and they have plenty of oil money. If I were to go to the former Soviet states of Asia, Baku would be on my list of stops for sure. Azerbaijan is on good terms with Turkey and the west, and is Israel's single largest supplier of petroleum in a region where Israeli relations with Arab states puts them at risk for being embargoed.
On another note, if in Iran happens, I hope the Azeris scoop up Iranian Azerbaijan.

Pretty sure several of the Gaulic tribes subgugated if not exterminated by Caesar's forces were actually already established allies if not protectorates or vassals of Rome. One of the big issues a lot of the Roman senate and Caesar's contemporaries had with his invasion was he was indiscriminately targeting all Gauls rather then purely hostile ones.

ITT: Obscure historical facts. A foreigner becoming sympathetic to a cause of his own volition
I'll start:
Seigo Yamazawa, born in 1846 was a Samurai who fought in the Boshin war. After the war in 1876 he was sent as a correspondent in Russia and when the Russo-Turkish war broke out he went with the Russian amry to Bulgaria. There he became sympathetic to the Bulgarian cause and personally requested to lead a unit and fought in the siege of Plevna. He was later decorated by Russian and Romanian officials but funnily enough not by the newly liberated and obviously ignorant Bulgarians. A certain Bulgarian museum holds a wakizashi found in 1877 around Plevna which is believed to be his though it was later discovered the sword was made in the XVIIth century and was unlikely to have been used in the actual battle, which still doesn't explain how the sword got there.
