How much freedom of movement was there from one to the other in former countries/federal districts east of germany during the european union?
>>3169351
Ummm do you seriously have to ask this? They built a wall so that people would literally stop leaving.
>>3169351
>in former countries/federal districts east of germany during the european union?
what???
>>3169400
Not OP but I think it's a reasonable question. Going beyond the wall meant leaving the area of communist authority while moving within the DDR didn't entail such thing. I see how they would want to control movement inside the DDR yet I believe people actually going into the enemy's area would constitute a bigger concern for authorities.
Why Did The Great Depression Last So Long?
Cos it was Great!! clue is in the name kek
Because the western powers couldn't find a way to declare war on Germany until they used the invasion of Poland as an excuse.

Keynesianism
>denominations
Why?
Why can't people just read the bible and have their own interpretation instead of having someone else's beliefs?
Why do so many denominations have rituals? Are catholic rites adopted from pagan traditions (eg. Christmas).
>>3169092
Oral tradition is important in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Talmud supports the Torah, the Church supports the Bible, and the Hadith supports the Koran (?).
Laity shouldn't read the Bible on their own really, they are not properly educated theologically on how to discern from what is metaphorical and what isn't etc which leads to the insanity which is sola scriptura and snake handling.
The problem then is that relying on the ""church"" for ""guidance"" basically turns into a shitfest of circular justification, institutionalised corruption, and emotional and sexual abuse.
Really, the bible for laity should just literally be a collection of Jesus's sayings (from the gospels) condensed.
Because if everyone can write their own rules the game itself is impossible to play between two different people. For example chess, a person fanatical about speed chess and a fanatical about playing regular chess aren't going to get along. Its really that simple. It becomes even harder if you have rules for your club that is the opposite of denominations (rules for what is idol worship).
Catholics do have many Pagan traditions showing through yes but so do Orthodox Christians (Maslenitsa etc). It should be noted that Protestants also celebrate Christmas and they deny being pagans too.
Because Christians were doing the things you complain about (ritual and authority) since the 1st century, its fundamental to the religion.

Not an argument.
Without delving into the more technical aspects of "sin" (or other definitions of evildoing) I propose that we discuss the broadstroke functions of religion.
As far as I understand it, both Christianity and Islam are primarily designed as control mechanisms. They aim to police what is good and evil, imply an eternity of happiness for those who behave, and imply a punishment where no earthly punishment is either possible or sufficient.
"I steal from people"
>"that is bad"
"you can't stop me."
>"no, but there is a belief among our people that if you steal you will suffer after you die."
"and who will enforce this suffering?"
>"a powerful and inescapable deity beyond our full understanding."
"that sounds scary, I will stop stealing."
To me this sounds like a simple made up system to control those who we, otherwise, cannot control. It is a way of maintaining some sense of where wrong and right begin. I understand that without "morals" civilisation might become decadent. Nietzche believed that, despite the abandonment of belief, we could fill the gap left by religion with art and culture, but I do not see how this could fill in where the guidance of religion left off. I worry that, without religion, civilisation is doomed to collapse. Suddenly anything is acceptable because there is no guiding principal of good and evil.
That theory makes sense for Jews and Muhammad, but what was Jesus's end game? He got himself and many of his followers killed for an obscure belief system.
>>3168851
Jesus wanted to be remembered as a wise prophet. He got what he wanted. Strange how he performed miracles in front of thousands, and yet the people still allowed him to be crucified with very little resistance.
The role of religion is more or less to impose sacral law.
Where there is well-organized secular law the role of religion becomes minimal. Once Roman law was codified the purpose of pontifici became strictly ceremonial.
